A holiday mash-up for the whole family, THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER returns for another spectacular tour. Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award-nominated Jennifer Weber, this contemporary dance spectacle is a re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, smashing hip hop dance and Tchaikovsky's timeless music together into a heart-stirring and inspirational holiday event. THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER is brought to life by a powerhouse cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set.
Just like the original, in THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann's beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.
Grab your family and friends and let the dynamic performers of THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER take you on a journey that celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season.

Went with my family (I am a boy mom). Half of us loved it and half slept through it! This is why I gave it 4 stars rather than 5. The intro was very endearing and I loved the dancing/storytelling. This was a great adaptation and a great show to see as a family.
It was a great show. The music and dancing was so amazing. It was just great all around. I would recommend it.
The event was amazing! The story was excellent and the music was fun. The cast and costumes were very nice!
Waste of time and money. I was expecting Tchaikovsky's music remixed with a hip hop twist. It was basically people break dancing over the original Nutcracker music. And if that was the case there wasn't even an orchestra. The music was pre-recorded and supplied by the DJ. Only hip hop music was Kurtis Blow's set at the start. Then a violinist came out at the start of each act and played along with a hip hop track. But after that it was all downhill from there with the music
This felt like a community theater production- left at intermission
As a fan of the Nutcracker I was excited for a Hip Hop spin on this holiday classic but unfortunately this performance missed the mark. The opening into, although good, lasted too long and did little to do to advance the story. Although the performers were good the storyline was difficult to follow at times. I would recommend sticking with the traditional Nutcracker and passing on this show .
The talent was AWSOME. I feel as though it could have been a bit more hip hop swing on the original music. Basically saying the selection of music should’ve been hip hopped out. I feel as though the intro had the most hip hop of the entire show.
I was disappointed by this show. Some of the break dancing was great but for the most part, the dancing and acting were not as good as one would expect from a production at this theatre. It seemed more like a talent show than a polished professional production. The intro at the beginning was cheesy and stale.
The dancing was incredible. EVeryone was extremely talented. Didn't like the changes that were made on the storyline. It would have been nice if the original story had stayed and everyone danced Hip Hop to it. But the DJ and the dancers were fantastic.
Not what I expected regarding the music. Where was the hip hop? Kurtis Blow's set at the beginning was cool and that was basically it. I was expecting the Tchaikovsky music with a hip hop twist and I was wrong. Each set started off with a violin player accompanied by hip hop beats. But that was basically all. Once the violin player left and the story began, no hip hop. Just a bunch of people break dancing over The Nutcracker orchestra music. And there wasn't even a orchestra! It was pre-recorded music supplied by the DJ. Total waste of time and money. The choreography was good but did not like how the music was set up. I had to watch the Disney Hip Hop version to get the bitter taste out of my mouth when I got home. And I can't stand Disney!
The entire row fell asleep. No hip hop music was played during the entire show! The same routines! Very misleading! You'll be better off seeing the regular nutcracker!
