A holiday mash-up for the whole family, THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER returns for another spectacular tour. Directed and choreographed by Tony and Olivier Award-nominated Jennifer Weber, this contemporary dance spectacle is a re-mixed and re-imagined version of the classic, smashing hip hop dance and Tchaikovsky's timeless music together into a heart-stirring and inspirational holiday event. THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER is brought to life by a powerhouse cast of a dozen all-star dancers, a DJ, a violinist, and MC Kurtis Blow, one of hip hop's founding fathers, who opens the show with a short set.
Just like the original, in THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER, Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince go on a dream adventure battling a gang of mice, visiting the land of sweets and learning the lessons of the holiday season. Innovative digital graffiti and visuals transform the landscape of E.T.A. Hoffmann's beloved story from traditional 19th Century Germany to the vibrant, diverse sights and sounds of contemporary New York City.
Grab your family and friends and let the dynamic performers of THE HIP HOP NUTCRACKER take you on a journey that celebrates love, community and the magic of the holiday season.
Dancers and music was awesome!!!! Enjoyed everything Great jon
It was not Black enough for me. More Blacks needed
The story was very different and very hard to follow. The dancing was good, but nothing outstanding. I wouldn’t see it again.
Hip Hop Nutcracker was exhilarating and creative. Such young talented artists. Would definitely recommend
Took my teenage son's and we enjoyed it. Was our first time going. Not disappointed.
We were so looking forward to this show. What a great concept! But we quickly changed our minds. The show lacked energy and passion. We were so bored we left at intermission.
I absolutely HATE having digital tickets. Most people want their phones to be seen, well, I DON'T! It is angering that somehow during the ordering process, I ended up on Ticketmaster. The fact that you will not give tickets in hand ticks me off. I will make sure I never use Ticketmaster again.
It was amazing and it does not matter if you are into Hip Hop or not!!! To see the spin on Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker is amazing and well worth every dollar spent on a ticket.
Everything was really nice. I enjoyed the whole show. The children were amazing.
So what do you get when you match up the Tchaikovsky nutcracker music with hip-hop dancing? Well you get something beautiful and unexpected. thank you. Thank you. The nutcracker is not boring anymore.
Hip Hop Nutcracker-Chicago is different from the original ballet version, but still an awesome experience and wonderful performance to watch. Curtis Blow was a great emcee.
It was very entertaining and the take on the Nutcracker was performed beautifully.
Amazing talent. Energetic. Great music. Nonstop excitement
A complete lack of respect for Tchaikovsky magnificent music, if he came alive and saw “this”, he would die on the spot!!!!! The master of ceremony Kurtis Blow was incredible, he was the only highlight of the evening…
The dancer were good! Some better than others. I guess I was looking for great hip hop dancers. Overall the show was different, but in a GOOD way!
The actions portrayed in the performances did not match the description of each Act in the bulletin.
Excellent performance by All🥰🥰 Highly recommended from music to dancing very colorful costumes. We had balcony seats which made the view in the middle of the stage breathe taking. Telling all of my family and friends to purchase tickets😎😎
Kurtis Blow was good as the MC & the violinist was excellent as well. All the dancers did a great job.
The performance was great! It just was not what I was expecting considering the price, location, and that it was a Hiphop version of the nutcracker. I grew up as a ballerina as well as appreciating hiphop culture since my older brother is a break dancer and has competed and numerous events. I originally went in thinking the show would be very live and upbeat (it was in the beginning) however, the performers danced to the original classical music (with no hiphop beat) Again the show was great and I enjoyed my experience! My only critique would be to add more hiphop in the music for “The Hiphop Nutcracker.”
Wouldnt go see it again. Dont understand why it needed the first 15mins of flashback dj songs. Felt the same dance moves were repeated often. I give credit to all the dancers as im sure it is very hard work performing said moves! It just didnt blow me away, but was okay to see once.
