About

The Head and the Heart in Concert

With an infectious style that combines folk, country, pop, and smart songwriting, Seattle, Washington's The Head and The Heart have earned a reputation as a consummate live act, charming concertgoers with their layered arrangements and intricate vocal harmonies. In 2013, the band released their most confident and mature album to date, Let's Be Still, featuring lead single "Shake," an indie folk stomper that perfectly captures the energy of the band's live performances. After meeting at various open mic nights around Seattle, the band officially formed in 2009, touring the Pacific Northwest before releasing their self-titled 2010 debut album. The buzz of that album attracted the interest of several labels, and the band ultimately signed to Sub Pop Records, who re-released The Head and The Heart LP in April 2011 with additional material including "Down In The Valley, "Lost in My Mind," and "Rivers and Roads." The band toured widely throughout 2010 and 2011 as a supporting act for Dave Matthews, Death Cab For Cutie, and The Decemberists, also headlining their own shows before returning to the studio to record their sophomore album. On tour in 2013, the band impressed ticket buyers with their eclectic live concerts, leading audiences through foot-stomping sing-alongs of the indie folk anthems they've become known for.

The Head and the Heart will release their four studio album called Living Mirage on May 17, 2019. They start touring in the summer of 2019 with 39 dates in support of the new album along with the alternative rock band Hippo Campus on select dates.

  • Excellent Show!

by Cilala on 6/19/14State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

The opening act was so talented and really grabbed your attention. Plus, by the time The Head and the Heart came out you were fullying ready to enjoy their music. Both bands played brilliantly and beautifully, with interesting dynamics to how they performed.

wAS REALLY fun with all my friends and really hope we can do it again soon

  • An elegant, emotional and ecstatic performance.

I call it "new folk" for lack of a precise definition. Their studio work is more reflective of that label than their live show. The Head and the Heart have crafted a stage performance that adds expression and liveliness to their work. If you have a chance, see them. Meanwhile, check out their CDs.

  • Never fails.

by AMFeathers on 6/16/14STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time I've seen TH&TH. Both times prior at more intimate venues, but they proved up to the challenge their growing popularity is bringing on. Stage AE is no arena, of course, but TH&TH play it like one. You can't escape the penetrating lyrics, resounding harmonies, and consistently awing collection of talent that they offer. They lose themselves in the music, and when Charity takes control of the mic, and the audience inevitably goes wild, you never want that sublime chill to go away. If my life were a continuous circle of TH&TH concerts like the movie "Groundhog Day," I would live forever.

Amazing show and not a bad seat in the house. Will definitely see the band again and return to PAC for future shows.

  • The Head and the Heart, so many problems.

by Borninhockeytown on 6/16/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

The bomb threat was very disappointing. The opener "Valerie June" was not a good live act. Everyone was talking throughout the set. She has a couple good tunes on her disc, which I am not sure that she played. All of the few songs she sang, sounded the same. No fun to listen to or to watch, Sorry. The Head and the Heart started slow, but played very well. The crowd really enjoyed the songs off their first disc and the current songs went over well. By the time they were ready for the encore, things were going well. However, there was no encore. So because of the opener and what I thought was a slow start, not having an encore, very disappointing. Even more so, because Charity was just warming up and she would have sung on 3 of the 4 missed tunes. Plus the crowd was chanting for "Down in the Valley" right from the beginning of the set. so I was really pumped to hear it live. But who knew a bomb threat would cut it short. That was certainly a first after about 200 shows.

Great show and great energy. Probably helped it was their last gig of the tour.

  • Weak Performance

    by Chris4676 on 6/16/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

They were down a man and no encore. $40 for an hour of music. With that being said, they sounded great.

  • THATH - on My Feet From the First Song!

by TrachKinder on 6/16/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

The Head and The Heart are superbly talented and shine on stage. The crowd remains engaged and if you EVER have the opportunity to see them in an intimate setting, do not pass it up!

  • THATH were great!

by MDTPJR on 6/15/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and I were thoroughly impressed with THATH. We weren't sure coming into the show whether they had enough quality material to keep us interested for a full set. Have no fear if you have the same reservations. This is a solid band! Great vocals and impressive energy! The highlight was RIVER and ROADS. We go to a lot of live music and that song was just flat out moving and powerful. We are looking forward to more albums and another visit near us in the future!

  • The Head and the Heart- Charleston, SC

by Anonymous on 6/15/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

They played one of the best performances I have ever experienced. Luckily, the show was in a performing arts theatre so the acoustics were great. The overall sound was top notch. Charity seemed like she was having a bit of trouble with her voice at the beginning of the performance, but she broke through during "Rivers and Roads" and blew the roof off the place. They played for nearly two hours as it was the last show of their tour. They played four encore songs after playing seemingly every hit song from their two albums.

  • Bad start, Worse finish

by Yacobs on 6/15/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 1 out of 5

Arrived to find a terrible opening act. Folks music style but with the worst voice I may have ever heard. Finally around 9:20 the band comes on. After a song or two they announce one of their founding members and singers was out due to an "accident" the night before. This obviously affected them as they mentioned it another half dozen times. Meanwhile the female singer became increasingly less understandable. But the music was still good and most of their best songs were played. However , short of an hour in to their preformance they exited only to never return for an encore. They later said that it was the fault of the venue. Even if that is accurate, this show should have been cancelled when the band determined they were short handed. The whole event left a sour taste for all and I for one will not be following this band any further.

  • by Anonymous on 6/15/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

One of the better shows I've been to in awhile. And it was the last date on their tour. I've heard bands sound horrible in the past when I've caught them near the end of their tour. Not the case here.

  • The Head and the Heart was all "Heart"

by Anonymous on 6/15/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Great band! Love the venue. It was not to big and just big enough to house a good crowd and still feel intimate with the band.

  • They put on an ahmazing live performance!!

by Southpawsfromedisto on 6/15/14North Charleston Performing Arts Center - North CharlestonRating: 5 out of 5

Their songs were even better live than they were on the album. It's very rare that you find a group of artist that are like that. They sang with such conviction and soul, that didn't even come through on the album. Best live performance I have ever been to!! Love love loved it!!

  • ~ $1 per minute

    by Krose5423 on 6/14/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 2 out of 5

The 55 minutes they played were amazing. Even without Josiah (which was weak in and of itself). But c'mon, that's less than an opening band typically plays. So disappointed it was over so fast.

  • Just a sloppy experience start to finish

by Yogisanpedro on 6/14/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 2 out of 5

Opening act was 45 minutes late, and no good. Main act was missing a lead band member. Venue shut down before the encore. Wouldn't allow band back out. Poor experience. Want my $$ back.

  • by Anonymous on 6/14/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

We were disappointed by the incomplete band and the abrupt ending. We've been longtime fans and would love to see them again to rectify the experience. As an aside we thought the opening act needed to be changed.

  • Amazing and Wanting More

by Twosteppin on 6/14/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing! The music was amazing. I just wish it wasn't cut short. No encore due to "unforeseen circumstances" ... otherwise the show was great!

  • Nice effort for half the band

by Shmuddy on 6/14/14The Fillmore Charlotte - CharlotteRating: 3 out of 5

Wish I could see them again w 3 singers to get the whole experience. The band did a good job putting on a good show otherwise.
