About

The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The band released eleven studio albums, all of which reached the charts in Canada and the United States. Their 1970 album American Woman reached no. 1 in Canada and no. 9 in the United States, while five other albums reached the top ten in Canada. The Guess Who charted fourteen Top 40 singles in the United States and more than thirty in Canada.

The band found their greatest success in the late 60s and early 70s, under the leadership of singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, with hit songs including "American Woman", "These Eyes", "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", and "No Time". With Randy Bachman's exit in 1970, Kurt Winter joined the band and The Guess Who would go on to release the band's top selling album Share the Land. Songs such as "Hand Me Down World", "Hang On To Your Life", "Albert Flasher", "Clap for the Wolfman", "Runnin' Back to Saskatoon", "Star Baby", and "Glamour Boy" would follow.

The Guess Who officially broke up in 1975 with the exit of lead singer Burton Cummings. Cummings. Members of The Guess Who reunited a number of times over the years, with their last concert being in front of 450,000 at the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto SARS benefit concert.

With Randy's powerful guitar work and Burton's distinct vocals and keyboard mastery, the duo continues to capture the spirit of what made The Guess Who a household name. They are more than just former bandmates -- they are ambassadors of Canadian rock, whose influence can be heard in countless acts that followed in their footsteps. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Guess Who were pioneers who dared to dream beyond their borders--and succeeded on a global stage.

I go to a lot of concerts and The Guess Who was one band that I had not seen before. So thrilled to see them finally and it was such a fun evening! I would go see them again!!

  • Played the hits!

by Mitch on 10/12/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

I was so glad they played most of their popular songs, and stayed pretty true to the original tunes. Very enjoyable! Surprised and happy they played “Shaken All Over.” I enjoy a band that the members are smiling and appear to be having a good time - and they did. Great show that I recommend to anyone who enjoys the music of that era!

  • Great show, great music!

by bjake on 10/9/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed every minute of this show. The band may have transformed over the years as many long time bands have, but they all worked together to put on an amazing show. Interaction with the crowd was very entertaining, and I learned a few things about them. The music was fantastic, they played all of the songs that we love, and played them well. We may all get older, but we don't have to stop playing rock and roll. Thanks for a great evening!

  • Fun to remember

by Flashback on 10/9/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the Guess Who! They were very nice and talked with the crowd as well as played excellent music. It was fun to see their long hair too, and they can still move!! My friend helped me put on a piece sign patch on some old overalls and some flower patches. It was a lot of fun.

It was a great show. Better than I thought it would be! The music was great. Voices and instruments spot on. Lots of energy with them. I would definitely go to this same show again. I was super impressed with them all, but the lead singer was great. Great story telling and humor as well

  • A Great Show!

    by Brian N. on 10/9/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed The Guess Who very much! They playrd all of their hits from the past as well as a few new songs. While the members are not all original, the drummer is! The group performed an excellent show, involving the audience who knew the words to most of the songs.

  • Just average

    by Nik55 on 10/9/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 3 out of 5

Saw the Guess Who at Stephens Auditorium in Ames. I’ve seen them many times before and thought this performance could have been better. They played lots of new stuff that I really did not enjoy. Didn’t play all their hits. Sound person had the whole thing too loud with the bass so loud it rattled in your chest. The hits they played were good just overall an average night.

  • Outstanding concert

by Was great to see a band not use crazy sound systems and play like they did in 70s on 10/9/23Stephens Auditorium - AmesRating: 5 out of 5

Really enjoyed seeing a band use their old sound system and amps Felt like we were in a time machine Back to the 70s! Well done The guess who Like Mick Jager said The rolling stones will be playing long after the original band members are gone Long love the guess who

Guess Who still rocks. Derek Sharp is fantastic. They sang all of their hits plus cuts from their new CD. They are totally underrated. Go see them if you have a chance.

We had a terrific time!! I’d noticed earlier last week that the Guess Who was going to be at the Nugget. It happened to be on our anniversary, so we said let’s go!! The band was genuinely glad to see all of us, as tropical storm Ophelia was in full blast. Loved the whole experience!!
