THE GO-GO'S IN CONCERT:

After three decades together, iconic new wave girl group the Go-Go's still have the beat. Boasting an all-star lineup that includes the beloved voices of Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin, the Go-Go's continue to be one of the most effervescent live acts around, practically bursting with energy as they take the stage to perform upbeat classics like "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "Head Over Heels." One thing is clear: these girls just want to have fun, and that's exactly what they'll do on their upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed amid LA's burgeoning punk and new wave scene in the late '70s, the Go-Go's got their start playing seminal venues like The Whiskey A Go Go and The Roxy. For their 1981 debut LP Beauty and the Beat, the band eschewed their early punk sound in favor of a more radio-friendly brand of power pop -- with phenomenal results. The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, spawning the hit singles "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat" and earning the girls the Best New Artist award at the 1982 Grammys. 1982 follow-up Vacation was a similar success, landing two more hits on the charts and going on to be certified Gold by the RIAA. Following an initial breakup in 1985, the band's members embarked on various solo ventures, reuniting periodically over the years to record and tour. Back on the road for another highly anticipated tour, the Go-Go's will bring their signature energy to venues around the country.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Great energy and super show. Go-Go's brought back the 80's for a few hours, and we had a great time."

"The girls all looked and sounded great.  Belinda sang a few of her songs and she was sounding great. Plenty of Go-Go songs and it was a great balance of all the girls' music."

"They were just as fun & energetic as they were in the ' 80s! Very enjoyable!"

Go-Go's were GREAT; the B52's not so much.

by Kylieboy on 6/18/11DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

The girls did nothing but WOW us! I kinda wish they did the whole show. The Go-Go's covered most of the tracks from Beauty and the Beat including Our Lips are Sealed and We Got The Beat among some other singles Head Over Heels and Vacation to solo hits from Belinda and Jane. The B52's came on after and looked as if they didn't want to be there and they could be doing something else. Their music was way too loud and completely covered up the vocals. We left during their third song. I kinda wish the Go-Go's did the whole show!!

It was rainy and they only performed for an hour. After paying $90, I was extremely disappointment in paying that amount of money for an hour worth of play time.

    Go Go's were Awesome!

by Jmouse6 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Even though it was raining and this was outdoors it was a great show. They came out and played, which alot of people were saying they thought they would cancel. The Go Go's are true rockers for putting on a show while it rained and it was Awesome!

    Rip off

by SSOS on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

We stood in the rain for an hour and a half after the scheduled start time wondering if they were going to have it or not. They then played for less than an hour. Not worth the money. Felt like it was just greedy to not cancel it but make us all stand there in the rain for that long waiting for it to start.

GoGos Great, Lead up Not So Much...

by Thespian15 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The Go Gos themselves were great for the short performance they gave. However, the roadies for the band or maybe the people from the Minnesota Zoo, or both were not so good. There was a rain/lightening storm the night of the outdoor concert. They kept us standing outside in the rain for 1 hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled start time of the show. If this had been a sporting event, the lightening would have been enough to cancel the show. The Go Gos finally came out and played for just over 45 minutes. I can only wonder if the show would have been longer if it had started on time. The price of the ticket did not equal the length of the show.

    Go Go Washout

by luckydog1313 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I was very disappointed with the show at the Zoo. I realize the weather can be a challange. However in the future I suggest making "the call" do we play or not, much sooner. I was there in the rain and wind from 7:15 to 9:15. I guess they went on at 9:30. The noise ordinance for the venue is 10:30. I do not feel much value in a 45 min show in pelting rain.

    Go-Gos at MN Zoo!

by JLR40 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

It was a dark and stormy night-and the ladies could have very well disappointed all the fans that ponched up and braved the rain. After an hour delay the ladies hit the stage to play the hits for the hearty, crazy Minnesota fans that won't let bad weather stop them from enjoying a favorite band. Played the hits with the energy and spunk of the good old days. Too short, too wet, too fun! Thanks to the Go-Go's for being good sports, good performers and honoring their fans with some great music. This one will go down as a wild night indeed!

Go Go's were good, but Zoo prep was disappointing

by Chris5406 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

After making the crowd wait for 1 hour and 15 minutes due to rain, the Go Go's put on a good, but extremely short 55 minute show. The Go Go’s thanked the crowd numerous times for hanging in with the delay, but to me, it seems like the concert promoter rushed the Go Go’s on so that they didn’t have to give a refund. I am most disappointed with the Zoo amphitheater for not having adequate protection during poor weather for the performers. They specifically state that the concerts will be held rain or shine; well everyone showed up for the show, but the zoo was completely unprepared. An A for the Go Go’s, but an D for the Zoo.

    go-go's no go

by smitty24 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

They came on late due to cold rainy weather. They let us sit out there in the cold and rain. I saw their play list they scratched off about half of their play list because they didn't want to sit and play in the cold and rain. If they didn't want to play a full set then they should have called off the concert. Poor job.

    The Go-Go's Still Got It!

by Anonymous on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I have waited to see the Go-Go's for 20 years and I was not disappointed. The show itself was awesome and they played the majority of my favorites. I love going to a concert and being able to sing along to EVERY song. I thought they sounded great and it ended way to fast. This was an outdoor show and of course it was raining. It was delayed for over an hour and noone addressed the crowd for over 50 minutes. Everyone was ready to have a good time and they could have had a roadie start a sign-a-long or even the wave. Something to keep the crowd energized as we sat in the rain. Once it started though, all the annoyance was washed away and I was taken back to an amazing time in my life with my best friend and sister by my side. I would go again and again and again... :)

    GoGos washed up

by 2catmom on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I thought it was very bad policy not to cancel this event. Having witness someone being struck by lightening, we were not comfortable going to the zoo that evening for a concert we felt sure would be called on account of the widespread electrical storm passing through the 7 county area. We decided to dress for the ocassion in major rain suits. Arriving just minutes before the scheduled start, we dashed through the parking lot as lightening lit up the overhead sky. After waiting an hour for crew to squeege off the stage, uncover the equipment and mop up standing water, making the stage safe for the girls, they announced the show would commence in about 15 minutes. After another loud clap of thunder directly over the amphitheater, my companion and I headed for shelter to wait out the storm. Finally, the girls came on stage and performed as best they could under the conditions. Many times the girls' voices sounded flat, muffled, fuzzy. The sound was dead, humidity is not a good transmitter.

    great concert..bad weather

by mjclrk on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The gals were great! Unfortuately the weather was downpouring! This was an outdoor event! They were supposed to come on at 8:00, they didn't go on stage until 9:15. They only sang for an hour! We waited for over an hour in downpouring rain while they waited in back. That was too bad!

    Horrible weather, Great Show

by Rocker45 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The rain help up the start by an hour but once the Go Go's took the stage they owned it. They had everyone standing for the entire show. They had to hurry some songs in order to play all the hits in the alloted time. Still solid musicians and a really fun live band-even in the rain.

    Fun band, too expensive

by Queen51 on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I love the Go-Go's and they played their hearts out, so for that I give it 4 stars. However, I ended up paying $140 for 2 tickets to a 45 minute concert. Thunderstorms delayed them for over an hour, but the venue makes bands stop playing by 10 p.m. The tickets said rain or shine -- which to me means either start playing at the posted time or cancel.

    GO-GO's Kick A@#

by TotallyinlovewithJane on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

This is the 4th time I have seen the Go-Go's in concert and the level of fun just seems to increase each time. It was rainy night that looked to dampen the spirits of some of those in attendance, but when the ladies took the stage after the hour delay the whole crowd came alive and rain or not the fun commenced. You just gotta dance to their music and it was such a reminder of the good days when music was more on my mind than work or bills or family drama. I let loose without a care in the world and got lost in the sound and dance for what seemed too short , but so worth getting a little wet. The band seemed to appreciate our sticking it out in the rain, not realizing how worthy they are of our slight damp discomfort..

Waiting in the pouring rain for an hour and a half

by Tmtesky on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

My best friend and I love the Go Go's and were really thrilled at the opportunity to see them live at the MN Zoo. Tuesday night, June 14th was pouring rain but we checked ahead of time and saw that the show was on--rain or shine- so we got on our rain gear and were there on time --only to sit and wait on the bleachers in the pouring rain for an hour an a half before they finally decided to come out and perform for the last 45 minutes--likely only out of contractul duty. If they didn't want to perform in the rain they should have cancelled the show and refunded our money. They didn't even let the audience know whether or not they were still going to perform--they just let us sit for over an hour in the rain just wondering. I love the music of the Go' Go's but for $60 per ticket --they could have shown their audience some respect and either cancelled the show or started on time rather than let us sit and freeze our buts off in the rain and then perform only half of a show.

    Rainy but fun

by 47states on 6/16/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The concert started 45 minutes late due to rain and then they only played for about 1 hour. It was fun and the music was good but they should have started on time as they played on a dry stage while we were being soaked from head to toe. They didn't play all of their most popular songs either.

VIP is a great experience if yer a Go-Go's fan.

by RobLett on 6/4/11Hershey Theatre - Hershey

300 hundred bucks sounds like a lot and it is, but if yer a Go-Go-s fan this is actually a pretty great deal. Front row seats, a meet and greet, and a signed (by all five original members) vinyl copy of the Beauty and the Beat reissue. (mailed to you later) You also get the cd issue of the "Beauty' remaster. In Hershey, the meet and greet was a little rushed (which is typical for meets) but the ladies were very nice and happily signed autographs and such. Since the signed record was included in the VIP package, I wasn't expecting any more autographs so this was a nice surprise. (One minor quibble is because of the rushed nature of the meet, you get some pretty undiscernable autographs but what the heck) You also get take a photo with them so how cool is that? Pretty cool if you ask me. As for the show the girls sounded fantastic, you would hardly believe 30 years have passed by if you were going on the quality of the sound. All in all a highly reccomemded experience.
