What a group of local talented artist. The show was amazing and the venue was perfect. I enjoyed everything from the customs to the music. Before it was intermission I was texting people tell them to get their tickets.

  • The GIZ -- failed to live up to the hype!

by MsDMV on 8/31/18MGM National - washingtonRating: 2 out of 5

The concept of a doing a Go-Go musical of the Wiz was Amazing! However, on so many levels this was a fail. For starters, although there were actors and music, this was not a stage play or even a musical for that matter. Visually it lacked luster, and there was not one stage set for any of the scenes, aside from the model of the big chair, which was positioned horribly. A lot of the dialogue seemed to be ad lib, and there were several scenes that had nothing to do with the remake of the Wiz, story line. In a way, it felt like a high school play. Kudo to the MGM who got people in quick & easy. And yet, still it started a complete hour late! And it didn't help that the promoter told the audience they wasn't gonna start until everyone had entered the theatre and was seated. (What's the point of coming on time then?) As for the GO-GO MUSIC... they did rep that well! But it felt more like being inside a Go-Go nightclub than a theatre production. Sadly tho, that's not why a lot of people purchased tickets. In my seating section, half of the audience left at the 3 1/2 hour mark. At the 4 hour mark hundreds more was headed out too-- and the GIZ hadn't even come on stage yet. Even cast mbrs complained the next day of how long it lasted. What could have been phenomenal, was nothing more than a Hype Go-Go listening party. I love Go-Go! But it failed to live up to it's expectation.

  • It was OK

by Tracey49 on 8/29/18The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the show was OK. The humor of WB and Ma Tin was on point. The acting of the Wicked witch of Waldorf was outstanding and the dancing of the scarecrow was amazing! Those were the people who stood out to me. I think the DC vibe and music was awesome. At one point I felt like we were at the Capital Center partying hard. I felt the show should have been held at the Howard theater so it can be more affordable and a constant run of the show for the month. That would give the opportunity for more people to see it. Good job overall

  • Dc go go

by Ladi1201 on 8/27/18The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 3 out of 5

I thought the show was good explaining the background of gogo. The play itself has room for improvement which I'm sure in time will happen. Good job guys!!

  • A night to remember

by MsjbEYES on 8/23/18The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National HarborRating: 5 out of 5

As a DC native, I had to support the Giz. It was an awesome experience for my 9 year old and myself. She learned a lot about Gogo and musicals. The only downside was the venue was not prepared. It was the MGM first stage play, so I'll give them some slack. I was upset I could not find a playbill for my daughter. Other than that the experience was great. I'm not sure if it will be as appreciated in other cities who arent close to DC and understand the impact that gogo has had on chocolate city. Well mocha because gentrification had taken over. But it's a must see and was family friendly.
