    Editing needed

by snusjunction on 3/7/11Newmark Theatre - Portland

The play's theme is timely and well taken. The first act is 90 minutes and the second 80 minutes. It would be significantly improved with editing.

    Ghosts of Celilo

by fiddlepeg on 3/7/11Newmark Theatre - Portland

The show was even better than the original, even though I didn't think that was possible! The re-writing has produced a tighter show with greater clarity. Some of the subtleties are now more readily understood, while still remaining subtle. Two things distracted me: 1. Chokey Jim has grown too tall. But I can see why you cast him again - he's SO good! 2. The Indian kids didn't look very Indian (and yes, I live in an area with lots of Indian kids and know what they look like). But outside of those two things, the show was amazing! I would go again in a heartbeat if I could.

    Ghosts of Celilo

I didn't think it was possible, but this is better than the original show! Only two exceptions: Chokey Jim has grown too tall (but he's so good I can see why you cast him again), and the "Indian" kids didn't look very Indian. A good makeup artist and some hair coloring could fix that. The parts of the show that have been changed make it flow much better and clarify some of the subtleties. This is the fourth time I've seen the show. It is AWESOME! Kudos!

    Ghosts of Celilo was wonderful!

by MrsDirk on 3/7/11Newmark Theatre - Portland

I grew up in The Dalles, Oregon, the actual setting of this excellent play/musical. I vividly remember when the magnificent Celilo Falls disappeared when the dam opened. Even though I was only 10 and "pre-environmentally conscious", the whole situation just didn't seem "right" to me. My family and I used to love going to Celilo on the weekends to buy salmon right out of the river. They were huge fish. I won't even tell you how inexpensive they were! My brother and I were fascinated by the fishermen balancing on their spindly platforms. It was scary and so dangerous. This play was sad and wonderful at the same time. It brought back many memories for me. The acting was very good and I loved the music. The sets were amazing-so massive and complicated. Highly recommend!!

It was good. Lots of technical errors. I give about a 4 out of five on the voices. They had some trouble with the sets and kept dropping stuff on the floor. I was afraid someone was going to trip. The first act was sort of slow but the second act was amazing! I would recommend this show to others.

    See this.

    by Patron6 on 3/6/11Newmark Theatre - Portland

An extraordinary experience. The music is haunting and memorable. The story, based on true events, is moving and powerful. Ghosts of Celilo is not just an exceptional piece of work. It's an important bridge between two damaged cultures. If healing is possible, this is what the start might look like. Highly recommended.

    Thumbs Up

    by Kitra39 on 3/6/11Newmark Theatre - Portland

I high recommend going to see this play. All over, I give this play a big thumbs up and will tell my friends to go see it. The only issue I had with the overall production was the sound quality. But, I blame that on the electronics and not the wonderful actors/singers.
