I want to do it again.

by Bobber on 7/15/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I am an Allman Brothers fan and catch them in concert when I can. I saw Derek last year at the zoo with Susan. Even though the spotlight wasn't on Derek I enjoyed the runs that he made during the concert. It was great to see him in concert with his band. Loved the show. Love working out while listing to his latest CD (picked it up at the concert).

    Forgettable

by Curly9 on 7/15/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

If you were there for guitar riffs it was good, not much of a "show" tho. No personality, lead singer was good and we could have heard more from him.

Derek Trucks Band, a moment in history

by Dickerson on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Was able to get row 5 dead center the night before. Was familiar with who he is but had never listened to any of his music (Allman's of course but not DTB) If you go to the zoo, best seat in the house is row 5 (first 2 are for wheelchairs) seat 15 or 16 (the center 6 or so seats in the front are blocked off on the side so when the bum rush comes you still see perfectly) Opener Ruthie Foster was ok. The DTB vocalist was very nuanced from growly to pained to powerful. The vocalist was a separate musician who brought a different reading to each song. Keyboard, bass and drummer had a song to shine and were good. I have never seen the need for a bongo player so whatever to the guy in the purple mumu. Mr Trucks is no sparkling personality but he truly earns all of the "best of " titles. Proficient and emotive. "Few of my favorite things" felt like the classic Mountain Jam and the back and forth between Derek and Ruthie Foster (this was truly real, she had no idea she was coming back out or she wouldn't have changed into what she did and put her glasses on) was truly a moment that will be one of those "I was there when...". All around super fantastic (except for overpriced beer and the fact that you WILL get lost coming out of there in the dark... I finally ran into Mystic Lake casino one night before I had any clue, thank god for searchlights!).

Best concert I have ever seen!!!!

by Lars61 on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I have been to a lot of concerts and love music but the entire experience of the small venue and the amazing talent of Derek and his bandmates made this the most intense, amazing musical event I have ever been to. I had seen Derek play with the Allman Bros. twice before but when he is in charge and can play what he wants it was so much better. Derek is a guitar god that stands way above anyone else given that distinction. There is no equal in music today

Derek Trucks Band & Ruthie Foster

by Panuche on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

What a night ! First of all Ruthie blew everyone away with her bluesy Powerfull (dont need a Mic.) voice. next Derek opened with a 5 min. slide performance that made me think it couldnt be topped. But I was wrong! Every song was flawless and convinced every goose bump on my body to stand errect.. That along with perfect evening weather and the peacefull atmosphere of the Mn. Zoo amphitheatre made it a perfect memory. I suggest people see Derek now as soon the tickets will not be affordable.

    Yawn

Ruthie Foster should have been the headliner. He's a great side man but not a headliner.

    Derek Trucks

by 2catmom on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The evening with Derek Trucks was very enjoyable. It was early in the season and we did have a couple of blankets along, first to sit on and second to cover the sandled feet. We enjoy the concerts at the zoo and keep coming back, year after year.

    Derek Trucks Band is impressive.

by DBear on 7/14/09Embassy Theatre - Fort Wayne

The first time I saw the band they were the opening act for Santana and they were excellent. But seeing their entire show is even better. The music is as diverse as the band itself. Derek Trucks guitar work is as good as any I've heard. I would recommend this band to anyone who likes Rock and the Blues.

    DTB rocks the theatre!

by Niecey2 on 7/14/09Embassy Theatre - Fort Wayne

I stumbled upon the DTB approximately two to three years ago. Little did I know then how much I would come to love them! My husband and I have now seen them in concert four times and the show at the Embassy Theatre was, by far, their most raw and memorable performance yet! The talent, as always, phenomenal! The LIGHT SHOW was spectacular! The theatre, a worthwhile restoration! It was well worth the five hour drive. Hope to see you in September at Charlotte, NC.

Derek Trucks is the REAL DEAL

by prosnick on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Derek and his band were skilled, energetic and were having fun in this non-stop musical delight that took advantage of each member's skills.

    Great show, great venue!

by Jethro77 on 7/14/09Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Great night all the way around. Easy parking, great theatre & opening act. Derek Trucks Band was better than when they opened for Santana at the X. Ruthie Foster was a great suprise, fantastic voice and the rest of her band was also good. Trucks did just what I wanted him to, waled on his guitar all night long. Played a little of everything I wanted to hear. Can't wait until he comes to town again. The zoo theatre was great, I had seats on the far left in the second to last row and it felt like I was right up front. Would definitely see another concert there!! Loved being outside, listening to music!

No nonsense out of sight concert!

by Bluesette on 7/13/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The Derek Trucks Band truly speak for themselves when they play. They put on a great show from start to finish. Derek is mesmerizing, the show goes by too fast. The music is so fresh yet so familiar. Love this band! Can't wait till they roll into town again!!!

    Derek Trucks, simply amazing!

    by buckhorn2 on 7/13/09Keswick Theatre - Glenside

I was completely inthralled throughout the entired show. I have never heard anyone do what Derek can do with a guitar. I would actually find myself lingering on a section of a number being played by repeating it to myself, than suddenly realize that the band was in an entirely different section of the number. I would rate it as one of the top shows I have ever been to.
