Sharon and the Dap Kings put on a killer show as always!! Great way to spend NYE!!
Miss Jones is an extremely dynamic and energetic performer and the Dap-Kings are a killer band. If you have the chance to see them, do not miss it! Great venue too.
Sharon Jones is a dynamo. I can't imagine a better way to ring in the new year!
Bringing the soul back to music! Wonderful show that kept moving...!!! love!
Several different acts performed. There were no real breaks in between performers. Several of the musicians and singers performed with more than one act. Real soul music that really isnt heard enough anymore. Crowd was great. Very diverse.overall a great show.
The first three opening acts were great. They each did about 3 songs. Then Charles Bradley came on and was fun for a while, but it lasted WAY too long. Three songs would have been plenty! Antibalas came on and did a bad jam session for 40 minutes. So 2.5 hours and no Sharon Jones :( Finally Sharon comes on - she is fabulous - but it's short. She expended a lot of energy dancing around the stage. This is how it should have gone down: 15 min Saun & Starr 15 min Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens 15 min The Sugarman 3 45 min Sharon Jones (new and old material) 20 min Sharon and Charles 20 min Sharon and Antibalas 30 min Sharon Jones (classic hits) Encores
Not only was this my first time at the Apollo Theatre, but also my first time in Harlem. The concert was absolutely amazing. What was the most impressive was the fact there wasn't a long time to wait between artists. They want to keep the people movin and groovin. I would love to go back for another event!
This event was amazing. First of all, it was at the historic Apollo theater, secondly daptones records has some of the best soul and funk today!
I attended both the TH and the SAT shows. Both nights were incredibly moving--for using their voices and songs to address the national crisis of police brutality, for digging deep into their roots and traditions so movingly, for having such great back up bands, for coming together at the end for as one big soul family.
Once again the Daptone family brought it. Every single performance was amazing, the transitions between acts were flawless and the musical talent was one for the books. Loved finally getting to see them all together in one place. So much love for all these artists who truly put their heart and soul into each and every performance. can't wait to see them again!
fabulous, non-stop entertainment. Fun, fun, fun, and, yes, fun.
The Saturday night show was great. The low point was the Blue Notes, an atonal band that was more noise than music. However, the other artists especially Charles Bradley made up for it. A cross between James Brown and Little Richard, he put on quite the show. I had to buy his CD. Sharon Jones has no equal though. She's get the energy of someone half her age and her voice is wonderful. Her imitation of Tina Turner was perfect. She just wasn't on stage long enough. But that's OK. She sang her heart out. All in all, it was a great show.
best shoe ever in the whole world everyone go see it
What a great show! The action was non-stop - the next group was cued up before the last group hit their final note. And the Apollo was a perfect venue for this. Not to be missed the next time around!
From the first strains of the Dap Kings blowing the soul breeze throughout the Apollo till the closing strains of the entire Dap Tone Soul review singing WE are Family there was not a dull moment in the three hour show
What a spectacular blast of soul from Daptone Records. An eclectic line up of acts, playing short sets as part of a three-night live album recording (one of only a select group of acts ever recorded at the Apollo). Charles Bradley was in fining screaming form, incorporating current political events with the historical context of his lyrics. Sharon Jones had so much energy, it was truly infectious.
Phenomenal show from beginning to end. True soul music....powerful and moving. Every act performed at a high level, highlighted by Charles Bradley and the amazing Sharon Jones.
From the opening act to the finale with Ms. Sharon Jones the night was outstanding. Soul Revue, was indeed, soulful and there wasn't a person sitting in their seats. Charles Bradley is such a showman and Antibalas brought funk to new heights. When Ms. Jones came out the crowd was so ready and appreciative. She brought a packed sold out show to tears with her inspiration, dancing and singing. If I could have gone to all three nights I surely would have. The Apollo is a beautiful venue, smaller than the Beacon Theatre with viewing from all angles. I can't wait to return. Hail, hail Soul Revue!
I went to this concert to see Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and I left it loving every performance that was on the stage, including Antibalas, Charles Bradley & his Extraordinaires, The Como Mamas, Menahan Street Band, Saun & Star AND, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings. Sharon Jones proved that a woman can be down and out with cancer and then come back as a 58 year old woman with enough energy and eloquence to fill the Apollo Theater. Charles Bradley was reminiscent of James Brown and yet very much himself and I loved the afrobeat of Antibalas. The added bonus was hearing some wonderful gospel music from the Como Mamas. The Apollo Theater was rocking with energy from both the performers and the audience. Great show!
A great night that got better and better! We loved Antibalas and the Daptones! Too bad we could not really dance! After the show to the Red Rooster, very cool!
