About
The Chicks are one of country music’s most influential and boundary-pushing groups. Formed in Dallas, Texas, in 1989 by sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire, The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks) rocketed to pop stardom with the addition of lead vocalist Natalie Maines in 1995. The multi-platinum trio would go on to win 12 Grammy Awards and become the best-selling female band of all time in the U.S., with 33 million albums sold worldwide. By blending honky-tonk with bluegrass and soaring pop vocals, The Chicks appealed to a diverse audience that stretched far beyond their country roots. Signature hits like 1999’s “Cowboy Take Me Away” and 1998’s “Wide Open Spaces,” along with their bluegrass virtuosity, saw The Chicks go from opening for Tim McGraw in 1999 to headlining massive concert tours that have sold over $100 million in tickets. 2020’s Gaslighter (produced by Jack Antonoff) was The Chicks’ first album in 14 years, and the catalyst for a 2023 tour where country-pop superstar Maren Morris will join the trio on a string of dates.

Worth the wait

The opening act was solid, with good musicianship and interesting songs. My only suggestion is that the video crew did not show Emily nearly as much on the big screen as Natalie and Martie; we wanted equal visualization! It was a wonderful evening.

For our seats themselves it would have been nice to sit in our seats but we weren’t willing to sit in seats that had a large post separating them. No where in the ticket purchasing process did it say that there would be a post in between the seats. If this was the case I would have chosen different seats.

Very political and expensive

I know so many of their songs, but I didn't know many of the songs they performed at all. I know their music went political after Not Ready to Make Nice, but I didn't think they would play so many controversial songs in a row. It felt very heavy and serious which was not what I was expecting. I was hoping for upbeat and fun. Also, the drinks at Canadian Tire Centre are outrageously priced! I still had a blast, it just really wasn't what I expected at all.
Everybody Lives You

Next an assortment of videos of powerful female performers-Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks,Heart… Then bam - Gaslighter and song after song new and old taking us on an emotional roller coaster ride. Loved it, bought the T-shirt and the sweatshirt!!
