HAROLD MELVIN'S BLUE NOTES ON TOUR:

More than a decade after their namesake's passing, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes continue to epitomize classic Philly soul with their smooth harmonies, slick style, and nostalgic live performances. The group amassed a string of No. 1 hits in the '70s, and timeless classics like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "Wake Up Everybody" are as vital and moving today as they were 40 years ago. After nearly two decades apart the group reunited in 2013 for the Soul Train Cruise, and they continue to take fans down memory lane with career-spanning sets of their romantic hits on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Harold Melvin's Blue Notes got their start in the '50s as The Charlemagnes, adopting the new moniker only after recruiting lead singer Harold Melvin in 1954. They achieved minor success throughout that decade and the '60s, but things really picked up in 1970 with the addition of Teddy Pendergrass -- a vocalist whose contributions to the band ultimately eclipsed those of Melvin himself. With Pendergrass singing lead vocals, The Blue Notes racked up several chart topping albums and singles during the mid-'70s, including epochal No. 1's like "If You Don't Know Me By Now" and "The Love I Lost". Despite their popularity, the band's lineup continued to shift throughout the '70s and '80s, and in 1996 they called it quits after Harold Melvin suffered a debilitating stroke. The group made a triumphant return to the stage in 2013 for the Soul Train Cruise, performing with original member Lloyd Parks -- a seasoned veteran who continues to join the group on their unforgettable tours.

Amazing show again by Michelle Licata producer

by 70sfanandlover on 12/6/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

If you're not following Licata Entertainment on Facebook, you need to, if you like music. Michelle brought back again a packed classy crowd to the theatre in Westbury, an incredible lineup of 70's hit performers, including the beautiful Melba Moore, the Trammps ('Disco Inferno'), France Joli, Santa Esmeralda, LIME, machine, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes,so many more, not to mention the Long Island well know Disco Unlimited group that got the crowd rocking! You can connect with Michelle Licata on Facebook to follow all her music events. The show was amazing ending after 11pm. I would highly recommend attending any 'discoball' or 'jingle bell bbottom ball' shows there!

Jingle Bell Bottom Ball was Awful!

by Ourgroup on 12/6/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Our group attended in 2015 & was much better! The 2016 show was awful!!!! The 2015 show was great! There was so many lip synced acts in 2016 it was so obvious! To be honest Frances Joli was the best act there .. Our group had 16 seats . I would not attend again .

    Good combination of artists

by Key2keys on 4/29/15TD BANK ARTS CENTRE - Sewell

Show started with comedian; then impressionist J P Lacey who did impressions of Michael Jackson; Steve Wonder and James Brown. J P Lacey engaged the audience and he was awesome! Harold Melvins Blue Notes performed some of their popular songs. Although, they are getting up in age, they did an awesome job. The Temptations finished out the night with popular hits too! They were outstanding!

    Temptations Review Was The Best!!!!

by DKJR on 4/28/15TD BANK ARTS CENTRE - Sewell

What an amazing concert!!! Harold Melvin's Blue Notes were great...they still have fabulous voices and one of them can dance like he's 20! The Temptations Review was the best!!! Dennis Edwards sounds like he did back in the day and Paul Williams Jr singing "Don't Look Back" gave me chills...he looks and sounds just like his amazing Dad! The crowd was out of their seats and dancing! After the show, they were so gracious and we even got photos with them. Thanks to both groups for a great night!!!

    unprofessional/unorganized event

by cdog469 on 12/14/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

This was an unprofessional/unorganized event Your heart was in the right place; however there were too many unscheduled performances up front in the beginning. 1) The event was too long, most of the artist/performers was from the old school era 2) There were a large group of seniors that could not sit in those hard chairs for 5 hours 3) Too many performance prior to the top billing acts 4) No crowd control, some were disorderedly during the beginning acts (but after all that was going on, didn’t blame them) 5) Equipment malfunctions left & right throughout the event. Mics were malfunction during several songs. 6) Had 10-20min problems getting house lights turned up when requested 7) MC let too much dry time past between set-ups. (music would have been nice) I undoubtedly could go on & on, but I’m sure you have already received some pretty nasty feed-back already. I was disappointed with a lot of things, but for a large quantity of people requesting a refund at the beginning of the show was an eye sight. Good luck in the future, hopefully this will not happen again

    Harold Melvin's Blue Notes

by MusiqFran on 12/6/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

This was my first and last concert at the Show Place Arena in Maryland. Not only were patrons made to stand outside the turnstiles to enter after the 7p start time, the following issues prevailed during my attendance until leaving early at 9pm when the first act Blue Magic came on with track music rather than a band: first performance EWF review, played in the dark during most of their performance and absent of musical balance of songs; too many comedians used to fill in time -- foreboding of disappointing things to come; children's karate act was good however why were they here at this show; the final straw was the emcee to introduce Blue Magic was rude to the crowd given the low response in applause. It is most unfortunate a refund was not provided the patrons for this show.

    Hope I can forget this!

by Refund2tickets on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

We walked in, the stage was backlit with large colored light bulbs, i.e, think Christmas lights. We were 15 mins early, yet a group of performers were onstage, singing in the dark. The stage was not lit . The sound was horrific. I don't know what the decibels were, but they were well above what is considered loud music. The chairs were metal folding chairs, not the padded ones, but the metal. Five hours we sat as this went on with one 10-minute intermission. Poorly executed show. Emcee begging the lighting crew to 'turn on the house lights' for about 10 minutes. Another emcee turning his back to the audience, strutting around, talking in a disrespective and unprofessional manner to the audience. One of the main performers stands onstage and just talks to the audience while the music crew tries to get her lip-sync music to work. She had no dancers, no live band, just herself and the music took another 20 minutes out of our lives. The stage was not lit for a good portion of this event.

    Worst show ever been to

by NateDSkate on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

What a terrible show despite some talented performers. Sound system was awful and so many unskilled technicians it was ridiculous. Everyone should have received a refund immediately. Blue Magic and Evelyn Champagne King should be commended for giving good performances despite the long list of things that went wrong. The Delfonics were even worse than the technical issues. Please retire immediately. "The group that tried to imitate Earth, Wind and Fire were horrible and served as an indicator of things to come. Obviously the majority of the small crowd left early. Show Place Arena should be totally embarrassed and never do another concert again ever and should go out of their way to give refunds.

    Disappointment!

by MarylandGirl72 on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

I purchased 9 floor seats for me and 8 family members (at $84 each). The concert production was on the level of a high school show. The performances started two hours late, and there were many technical problems throughout the show. There were times when the performer (Evelyn Champagne King) had to stand on stage and wait for her music to be properly played. The speakers went out and the entire time she sang there were techs walking along the back of the stage fixing the speakers. This is the worst Arena and concert I've ever attended. Ms. King also said that she had never experienced anything this bad in her entire 35 year career. Would not recommend seeing a concert at the Show Place Arena!!

    WORST SHOW EVER SEEN!!!!!

by pskc52 on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

Blue Magic was great. Before that was HORRIBLE. After that, The delfonics, that version, should be ashamed of themselves. I left during the delfonics, that version, Fiasco. The venue's sound system was bad as well. Ticket Masters, please don't send me any more information about SHOW PLACE ARENA.

    Worse Show Ever

by Prejetta on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

I want to say terrible but there is not a star for that. This is by far the worse show I've ever been to. The Tribute Band played longer than the actual groups I paid to see. Blue Magic and Evelyn Champagne King were good considering the sound people couldn't get her music together. The Delfonics could not hear we kept telling them that and I know the people on stage and the sound people had to be hearing what we heard. Nothing!! Then they half butt sang 2 songs and wasn't good at that. We didn't even stay for Harold Melvin's Blue Notes had had enough of the unprofessionalism of the overall put together of the show. And the worse so called Long Island Tea I've ever had... I will never go back to the Show Place Arena for another SHOW!!! Believe That!

    Not worth the money

by Babysis123 on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

It was my Birthday weekend and I was really looking forward to an exciting show, however I was very disappointed. The sound system was horrible, I didn't enjoy the performers who had no bands backing them, I felt sorry for Evelyn Champayne Kings because she was on stage for a good 10-15 before they could get her track right.

    Harold Melvin's Blue Notes

by OldiesConcertFan on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

The concert was terrible. It lasted way too long (7 pm to 12 am) due to comedians who were not on the ticket, kids doing a karate demonstration and equipment problems. The main act could not finish their performance because too much time was wasted with the aforementioned acts and problems. The sound was terrible. During much of the show there was no spotlight on so all that you could see was silhouettes of the performers. Two of the acts performed to recorded music. Ticket buyers should be told up-front that acts will not be performing with a live band. Going to a concert and finding out that the performer is singing to a recording is a major disappointment. Many people, myself included, would elect not to attend. And finally, one entertainer, Evelyn Champagne King, had to come out and talk to the audience for about 20 minutes while they tried to get her recorded music to play. Also, the venue was much too large for the small amount of people in attendance resulting in the building looking empty.

No Show Would Have Been Welcomed!

by Rosy300zx on 12/2/14Show Place Arena - Upper Marlboro

This was the worst event I've ever attended in my 10 year span. Started at 7:00 PM and went down from there. The sound system, lighting and overall acts were just not good. How do you watch 75% of the show with no spotlot? Why do you have to wait so long for the sound man to get the system to work properly? Why did three of the acts (Blue Magic, Delfonics and Evelyn Champaiine King sing off tracks (very Karaoke) and poor Evelyn. She had to wait at least 20 minutes before they finally got her cued in. Three comedians with more than enough time. I have to admit! They were the highlights (good). Finally Harold Melvin's Bluenotes came on after 11:00 PM. Of course the spot light was not on in the beginning. By the time they put it on I left. Never ever will I support this promoter. Oh! Let's also throw in not even half the seats were filled up.

    Enchantment was Great

by LasNV2 on 11/4/14Chicago State University Jones Convocation Center - Chicago

The whole show was very, very good, my only issues was the humming sound in the speakers, and microphone noise. However, Al Hudson, the headliners should have been on much, much longer. I did not get to hear some of my favorites from them. Also my birthday was on this day, so I was very, very excited to see this show.

    Excellent Show!

by Carleneleopard2057 on 11/4/14Chicago State University Jones Convocation Center - Chicago

The Laynie Foundation, The Love & Laughter Concert was off the chain. The husband & I really enjoyed it. Al Hudson & One Way came to party, but it was an older crowd & they didn't seem to interested. But overall it was a nice concert & if you wasn't there, you should have been.
