About

The Black Keys are a garage rock duo from Akron, Ohio made up of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Upon dropping out of college, the duo began making a number of self-produced albums together, including The Big Come Up (2002), Thickfreakness (2003), Rubber Factory (2004) and Magic Potion (2006). The band’s fifth studio set, Attack and Release (2008), marked a turning point — not only was it their first project to be recorded in a professional studio, but they also found a producer in Danger Mouse, who would go on to become a frequent collaborator. The Black Keys’ commercial breakthrough occurred with the 2010 release of Brothers and its 2011 follow-up El Camino. Both landed in the Top 3 of the Billboard 200 and the former earned the band their first Grammy win for Best Alternative Music Album. Their 2014 LP Turn Blue became their first No. 1 album on the all-genre chart, with later studio sets including Let’s Rock (2019), Delta Kream (2021) and Dropout Boogie (2022). The band’s twelfth studio album, 2024’s Ohio Players, will be supported by their 2024 International Players Tour.

The Black Keys -- two words -- filthy good!

by msrockdove on 1/2/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

Had been waiting to see this band for some time, and they did not disappoint! Was very pleased to see just the two of them, no special guests, as wanted to hear that very distinctive sound live. They performed quite a few tunes from thickfreakness, which pleased me no end as that's my favorite album so far. The energy level of Auerbach and Carney was astounding--I think they played straight for about an hour and 20 minutes, with only seconds for pauses. Auerbach does not stop moving. When they slow down for a riff or chord change, the audience would immediately burst into applause, feeding the energy back. They honored the audience with two encores, and simply gave a fabulous show. My only disappointment was that Auerbach's vocals were sometimes difficult to hear, and he has such an awesome blues voice. Am hoping that problem gets corrected for future performances!

    Black Keys-Riviera Theater, Chicago

by wpspicer on 1/2/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

Once again Chicago has proven itself as the premiere city in America to showcase bands of all kinds. No city continues to support music better than Chicago as proven here with two sold out shows by the Black Keys. One on NYE, the other on New Year's Day. The Keys threw down on 1/1/10 and the crowd was very appreciative of their efforts. After hearing the Keys would be releasing a new album in early 2010 I was surprised that they did not test any of the new material. Dan Auerbach is one of the most talented guitar players around....

    GREAT SHOW...

by JohnHenry on 1/2/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

Opening band the Violators were ok. Kinda to hippy for me. Could be good in the future kinda reminded me of My Morning Jacket. Black Keys killed. Great show. Very sonic for a two piece. As you can imagine the guitar tones were killing with fuzz. Phenomenal. Would go see them again for sure.

    Go see The Black Keys

    by Go2eleven2 on 1/2/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

Rocked the house at The Riviera in Chicago on New Years Eve. It's hard to believe after seeing all the bands with pre-recorded tracks and pyrotechnics that two guys can get on stage and bring the audience to their feet for the entire show. Their funky rhythms infect the audience with the need to get up and move with the music. Loved it.

SIMPLY AMAZING!! Will definately be hard to top the experience. Wished they'd have played a song or two more, but was VERY pleased with their choices of songs to play.

    Absolutely amazing

    by Letigre87 on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

I drove from Ohio and I must say I am soo glad I did. Had a wonderful time, The Black Keys always bring the house down. I thought the show I seen In Covington, Ky was thier best show ever, but I digress this show tops it by far. They played every song I absolutely had to hear and more. As long as I can drive to the show in 1 day I'll be there to see The Black Keys. Hands down the best concert of my life.

Keys were good, Crowd was bad

by Anonymous on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

I've seen the keys several times and it is always a great experience. They just get up on stage and rock out. I thought last night's show was short. The Keys took the stage around 11:30pm and were off by 12:30am. I was really hoping they would start off our new year's with a sneak peak at a new song, but they stuck to their usual playlist. Aside from being short and nothing new, they still gave everyone a great night. My only real complaint was with the fans at the show. By far the worst group of people to stand next to at a show. Never have I had such a bad experience with fans.

The show sucked! The band did not even play for an hour. For the price of the tickets, I would have expected a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour show. I don't plan on ever seeing The Black Keys again. What a disappointing New Year's Eve show.

    could have been longer

by trublonderocker on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

I know it was a new years eve show but doors opened at 10, then NO ONE played until after 11. The set seemed very short compared to when my friends who were with me saw them at a festival in the summer and said they did a two hour set. If you include the New Year countdown and excitement the set was only an hour and 30 min. They themselves are amazing musicians and a powerhouse live, they deserve a full dance floor for their shows though than the rivera.

Black Keys Ringing in the New Year!!!

    by JennieBennie26 on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

The Black Keys ROCKED the house last night!!! One of the best shows I've ever been to! The balloon drop was an added bonus! Could have gone without the opener, wasn't a big fan of them.

    NYE

by Mifune on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

They blew the doors off the Riv. Also Kurt Vile was pretty legit. Dynamite show, sick set list, freezing cold out side.

    They rocked!

by amcclow on 1/1/10Riviera Theatre - Chicago

I've seen the Black Keys four times now and last night was awesome. They played all their hits and sounded GREAT. Dan was amazing as usual and Patrick beat his drum kit with his usual passion. It was kinda funny to watch Dan avoid the big balloons that dropped at midnight...you could see that he had his eyes on them a few times as a big one came right at him. "I got Mine" was particularly rocking last night, not sure why. Dan's distorted guitar sound was pretty biting last night. Loved it.

    Forecastle Rocked!

by snoopali on 7/14/09Belvedere - Louisville

I bought tickets with the sole intention of seeing the Black Keys cuz they rock my socks off. Between the variety of vendors, the locally microbrewed beer and the intimate set up, I couldn't help but feel that I had found the "diamond in the rough" of the summer. The keys performed a fantastic show in a beautifully unique venue. I will be back again!

    Black Keys tore it up.

by Buckone on 7/11/09Belvedere - Louisville

Forecastle this year was set up great. I had a blast. There was enough room to move around fairly easily, given the small space it was in. I started the day seeing Cage, the elephant. They are from Kentucky and put on a great show. After that we saw the Whigs. They put on a pretty good show considering I have never heard of them. The set that Pretty Lights did was amazing. They had people dancing like crazy. Best of all were the Keys. They played a really good set. Most of the music they played came from the album Magic Potion. All in all, I cant wait for next year to see what forecastle has in store.
