    musical bliss

by singalongirl on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

If you like musicals and the movies this is the best combination of the two! The show is fun no matter where you sit. Make sure to go with other musical lovers and you'll have a great time! I only wish they had done another song or two from each movie.

Very well integrated video and music production highlighting the career of two American broadway greats. Excellent narratives on the history of each musical. A great family evening at the Bowl.

R and H Still Terrific After 50 Years

by OSHUGH on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Terrific night of entertainment provided by the Hollywood Orchestra, the Big Screen and the unbelievable music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The bonus was provided by Robert Osborne from Turner Classic Movies who provided interesting behind the scenes antecdotes about the various movies.

    by Jenny1234 on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

As always the Hollywood Bowl never fails to put on an awesome show! The film clips were fabulous and the orchestra amazing. I only wished they would have played on and on! This is the second time I have seen this show and will go again and again if they continue to have it!

It was great to see them revive old movies. Look forward to next year with more modern movies and on separate weekend from John Williams.

Rogers and Hammerstein Blast from the Past

by Glennda on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was probably one of the best bowl events I have been to and I have been going since I was a child. The naration was informative and added to the enjoyment of the music. I would not only recommend this to anyone I would definitely go again to a similar format and music. This program shows so clearly the grand old hollywood of begone years.

    A PERFECT BOWL EVENING

by LosFelizShopper on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Friends were visiting from out of town and we took them to their first Hollywood Bowl event. It was a perfect Bowl night with beautiful weather and an almost full moon shining down on us. What a great setting for the music. Our guests loved it and we were happy that they loved it. The only suggestion is that the screen iover the stage, that showed scenes from the movies, could be much larger and still not interfere with our sight of the orchestra.

    Hollywood Bowl Magic

by MattJP on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The magic of Hollywood was captured at the Hollywood Bowl with the music of Rogers and Hammerstein. Slick orchestral arrangements using the original movie scenes and vocals from well loved Hollywood musicals reminding us of the golden magic of film. Married with interesting historical facts about the movies and actors made this an incredible night at the Bowl.

A magical evening with Rodgers and Hammerstein!!

by BigMyke on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

To begin, it was a perfect evening in Hollywood. The weather was extremely cooperative. The selections from the individual musicals were some of the best offered. This was truly an evening that was cherished by both young and old. Simply magical!

Rodgers and Hammerstein at the Movies

by debpow on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

What a fun evening! We took the park and ride from Westwood. Be sure you get tickets in advance because the people with tickets get to board first and you could wait 1/2 hr if you don't have them. $5 round trip. What a deal! Picnic on the terrace...beautiful night. The show was fabulous. The MC from TCM was great. He provided interesting background into the movies and the stars and the composers. The music was wonderful, how they just were completely in sync with the film. I guess for pros it easy! The digital screen in the front was a pleasure to watch.

The big picture: R & H at the movies

by lifenluv on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was a really enjoyable evening, because I knew all the music. I was with a friend from another country, and for her it was somewhat boring, since she was not familiar with the movies or the music. I have been to the Sound of Music evenings and they were the greatest, with everyone singing along. This evening was not as much fun, because not many people sang along, until of course at the end. The historical notes were interesting, but sometimes too lengthy.... Overall, it was a very fun evening for most Americans, maybe mostly older ones, who know the movies.

The Big Picture: Rodgers and Hammerstein

by LoisBlue on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

The evening was everything we expected. It was great! The ease with which I was able to go online and print out tickets for the event AND the shuttle made everything go smoothly. Overall, a wonderful summer evening at the Hollywood Bowl - between the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Ticketmaster.

    Movie Night makes a comeback!

by GraceLee on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Kudos to the Hollywood Bowl for bringing in Robert Osborne to host their annual movie night. The show, which has been a mainstay for us, declined somewhat following the departure of the great John Mauceri as host/conductor. However, Osborne, with his easy charm and off the cuff anecdotal style, brought back what made the event so great for so many years. Bring him back again, please. TCM is a natural fit for this event.

Wonderful Evening of Rodgers & Hammerstein

by SpokanLilac on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

We had a great time last night and enjoyed the compilation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's work. David Newman did a great job conducting the orchestra and Robert Osborne was a terrific host for such an evening. He had great stories to tell about each of the movies before the music played. It was another lovely evening at the Hollywood Bowl.

Whatta Night at the Movies !

by SuzzyQ on 9/7/09Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Couldn't stop smiling! Loved the inside Hollywood information from Robert Osborne, he is a gem. Music was fantastic and the film editing amazing and "spot-on" with the scores. Not only brought back many wonderful memories for everyone in our group, the evening was fun and romantic. ENCORE!!
