The Allman Brothers put on an amazing show. Easily one of the best show I have ever been to. It was a phenomenal night!
The Allman Brothers sounded great cant say the same for the Doobie Brothers
one of the best shows/venues we have been to, and we go to about four to six big band concerts per year. loved it to pieces, awesome. will definitely come back to your venue.
I had a great time at the show.It was good to sit in an audience filled with old hippies... me included. This was my first time seeing the Doobie Brothers and my fifth time seeing the Allman Brothers. The Doobies put on a great show, although the sound was not so good. They were not nearly loud enough. People were shouting, "turn it up," from the audience. The Allman Brothers put on a good show.Bruce Willis came out and played blues harp on a couple of tunes. I have to say... if his name wasn't Bruce Willis he wouldn't have gotten the gig. Tom Petty and Mike Campbell from the Heartbreakers came out to jam on a couple of tunes and it was good. I've seen the Allmans with every line up over the years including in '69 with Duane when they were an opening act at the Forum. (Believe it or not, they opened for Three Dog Night!) I saw the Brothers and Sisters tour as well and the amazing show they did in '74 when they headlined and The Outlaws and The Marshall Tucker Band opened the show. The Allman Brothers always delivered, and I always went home not just satisfied, but awestruck. All in all, I think this concert was as good as it could have been without Dicky Betts. I know Dicky's been out of the picture for ten years or so, but he just captures that Allman Brothers sound. When they lost Duane, that was a huge blow. But Dicky did an amazing job picking up the pieces. Without Dicky it just isn't the Allman Brothers to me anymore. I'm not taking anything away from Warren Haynes or Derek Trucks, they are virtuosos in their own right. I probably would have enjoyed the show more if they renamed the band something else. It was a great party, and I enjoyed the show. But it just souded like more of a tribute to the Allman Brothers Band than an actual Allman Brothers concert.
This was an incredible concert. The Doobies were a great opener - they still have all of the vocal range and their playing was right on. They played one new song that was forgettable - "Back to the Chateau," but otherwise were a blast to see. They were completely overshadowed, however, by an absolutely incredible performance by the Allman Brothers. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks wowed on the guitar, Greg was perfect on the keys, and the entire rhythm/bass section rocked in a way only the Allman Brothers can. They played an incredible set, including a special guest appearance by Ziggy Marley for "I Shot the Sheriff." Other highlights were an extended "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison, and "Dreams." The only downside was that they played a slightly shorter set than they normally would, due to the double billing of Allman & Doobies.
The Doobies were very studio..but sounded great. They had their fans who sang along and had a great time. The Allmans ROCKED the house. They took each other on a musical journey that we all got to tag along on. The Doobie fans kept commenting that the Allmans werent playing their favorites.. and some left. More room for the rest of us to dance and enjoy the ride. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks were on target all evening. A spotlight performance by Susan Tedeschi was an unexpected addition.
Great gig - I've seen the Allman Bros a couple of times before, but it's been a while. Very tight group - amazing guitar work. Definitely must like guitar jams - there are lots of them! Derek Trucks is mesmerizing to watch - he makes it look so easy. Great concert to see at the Greek - very laid back.
I was really looking forward to seeing the Allman brothers in concert. In my teens and early twenties I had seen them about 10 times. They were terrible. All the did was jam. Maybe one or two sentences from a familiar song and then jamming noise. It was so bad that we left early, even though we were in stacked parking and could leave. anything was better than the torture of that concert. The Doobie Brothers once again were great
This was an excellent show, augmented by the appearance of Tom Petty and his mates. Dereck Trucks and Warren Haynes are masters on their guitars, and the rythym sections kicked butt. I will try and see this band as much as possible.
I haven'\t seen a show like it since the 60\'s. It rocked and great lighting effects.
Just a short note. This was a long drive to a beautiful, yet out of the way venue with time constraints. Bad pairing. No doubt about it. A hit machine band, (Doobie Brothers) whose fans love to stand and sing on EVERY song, followed by a band that stresses improvisational skills where listening is the key to the whole experience. The Doobie Brothers fans that stayed for the Allman's set seemed to think it was ok to talk and complain that, "they didn't know any of these songs"..and that, "there was too much guitar playing" throughout the entire hour and fifteen minutes The Allman Brothers Band was on the stage.
I originally bought these seats specifically to see the Allmans, and considered seeing the Doobies a bonus. Four of us sat together, and in our crowd it was unanimous - the Doobie Bros opened the show, and stole the show. The Doobies were so tight and awesome, it was like turning back the clock! Plus the sound from the Doobies was studio-quality, even though it was a live event. When the Doobies finished the crowd went wild. Then the Allman Bros began and the crowd settled down a bit. The Allman Bros were OK at best - and they kept going off on in their own direction, straying from the sound we came to hear. We noticed then that much of the audience was beginning to leave, and after about 30 minutes so did we.
Harrah's is a great venue for concerts, the sound is good and anywhere you sit it great In these economic times it is a great deal! Great venue for a great price, I used to go all over for concerts, now I stick closer to home. There is great parking up close, great food at good prices, and a concert that you can afford to go to, you cant beat that. I have been to about 7 to 8 concerts at Harrah's and have had a great time at everyone, the best thing is that Harrah' s has made a place that has something for everyone. Thanks Harrah's for the music
This concert was very uncomfortable. With a rhythem section packed with too many players including three drummers, the music was sloopy and busy. There was no show to speak of. They just stood around and played one song after the other and only spoke to the audience once. After the sun went down, I sat freezing in the darkness with the heavy din of the band and the smell of pot all aroun me. I left early.
Surpassed my expectations! The Allman Brothers were amazing! Derek Trucks, Bruce Willis on the harmonica AND Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers--an Unforgettable concert.
went to allmans and loved the doobie's- a little too much jamming but loved the guitar on allmans- very talented guy!
The Doobie Brothers were great - got the crowd warmed up for the anticipated Allman Brothers. Unfortunately, the evening was cold outside and the AB took a really long time in between to set up (almost 45 minutes) - making the crowd restless. Then, when they finally came on, we stayed in the cold for about 45 minutes waiting for them to play something we had heard before - they played only new material. Most people were getting up and leaving after only about 5-6 songs, we stayed longer and finally left after about 10 songs we had never heard before. I have seen the Allman Brothers before, and in the past they were great.
The best - Like fine wine, enjoy it while you can!
As an avid concert goer for 38 years it is hard to impress me. This show was probably one of the top three shows I've ever been to in my life. Classic Southern Blues rock with a contemporary twist. The ultimate blues rock fan experience. Don't miss the ABB if they are in your area.
