  • Winwood and Allman Brothers Reign supreme

by Kayakone on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was fantastic , one alone is a great concert, but two fantastic groups playing there tunes to a packed house is worth the admission. Derek Trucks and Warren together made the show

  • Best Allman's Show Yet....

by DMPianoman on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

Soulful, tight, unfettered. Just some of the descriptors that come to mind when I think back on this show. I've seen the Allmans several times, but I think this was the best. And although Warren and Derek were their usual show-stopping selves, I was blown away by how well Greg sung, from beginning to end. His voice is extraordinary! When necessary, he treats each word with such feeling, changing pitches and expressions and subtly making the song a mosaic. He's a master. Steve Winwood started of the show and was brilliant. His voice, if anything, has gotten better itself. What a great opening act. If anyone left that show unsatisfied, they just don't appreciate great music.

  • A good Show

by justafanofold on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

I've been a fan of both Allman Brothers and Steve Windwood for years. I've seen Allman Bro's with Betz but the retooled version is VERY good. My biggest problem with the whole show was too much instrumental and jamming. Not that I don't enjoy it but not for every song. There would have been time for more tunes that way. This was my first time to see Steve W and I loved it. All the vocals were spot on. A good show!!!

Loved seeing these great bands. The sound was great as well as are seats. The venue and parking was well done.

  • Allmans with Steve Winwood Great

by blowlox on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

Suffice it to say that when Steve Winwood joined the Allmans to play The Weight by The Band together, this brought tears to my eyes it was so good. The Allmans are better than ever and Winwood is a great choice to be playing on the same stage with them. I consider this to have been a great privilege to have seen and heard all they have to offer. Do not miss them if you have the chance. You will not be sorry.

Great music. Steve Winwood was also fantastic. Two great bands with fabulous musicians and great jamming.

  • Perfect

by lily11 on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

Allman's voice was blues perfect. The interweaving of Trucks' and Haynes' guitars is something we've never seen before and the level of their musicianship is beyond compare. The instrumentals featured everyone (including some of Winwood and his band) and were so tight. Winwood does an entire show on his own ( so come early) and his songs and jazz rock performance are as good as ever.

  • Steve Winwood better than the ABB

by ConcertGoerSPAC on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 2 out of 5

When i went to the ABB in 2012 when they played with Santana at Saratoga Performing Arts center the ABB were much better as a opening act then they were in 2013 as the feature act. Steve Winwood was much better than the ABB as the opening act, Having Seen the ABB many of times i have to say that this was the worst performance that i have seen them play. The ABB looked like they were off on this night, between songs except a couple there was a minute or two delay, The ABB hit the stage almost after and hour when Steve Winwood was done. Only to play for a hour and fifty mintues and one short encore. The crowd was energized and wanted another encore song from the ABB but did not get it. Overall if it was not for Steve Winwood this concert was below average, Steve Winwood made this show happen on this night. Yes Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are great muscians and keep the ABB going. Hopefully when the ABB come back to SPAC they do a much better performance then this years show. I know every has off nights and this could of been one of them.

  • Great music!

by Legs1976 on 8/31/13Saratoga Performing Arts Center - Saratoga SpringsRating: 5 out of 5

This was our 4th Allman Brothers concert, and as usual, they do not disappoint! This was our first Steve Winwood concert. I became a Winwood fan in the 80's and enjoy his earlier music. He was great in concert! He actually seemed surprised that people were there to see him as well as the Allman Brothers. I would love to see him be the headliner, to hear some of my other favorites!

  • disappointing

by paulgl on 8/28/13Meadowbrook - GilfordRating: 3 out of 5

Steve Winwood was great - his voice sounds great, he can still play and, most importantly, he seems genuinely happy and appreciative to still be playing. His band was first-rate. Loved hearing some of the old Blind Faith and Traffic tunes. ABB, on the other hand, was disappointing. Gregg Allman seemed tired and not very involved, more like a guy on tour going through the motions. I don't want to judge him too harshly, because anyone can have a bad day and he is coming off of a liver transplant. Besides, nowadays ABB is as much about Derek and Warren as anyone. But last night with a few exceptions they seemed out of sync. The set-closer "Nobody Left to Run With Anymore" fizzled badly and had me heading for the exit early (although I ended up lingering for the Whipping Post encore and was glad I did). In Memory of Elizabeth Reed was another bright spot, but otherwise many of the tunes were uninspired. This band is too good to give up, but they need to focus more.

  • Steve Winwood and Derek Trucks were great

by blostkowsky on 8/28/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

Steve Winwood: I admit that I am biased because I am a huge fan of Traffic and Blind Faith. However, I think that anyone would agree that on this night, at least, Winwood's voice was superlative and his keyboard and guitar playing was excellent. He managed to send shivers up and down my spine when he played songs from John Barleycorn. His band did an excellent job of supporting him, achieving a fairly accurate representation of most of the classics and a few outstanding examples. I hope he keeps touring, for our sake. Allman Brothers: Greg's voice was solid and Derek Trucks seemed to be channeling Duane a lot of the time. Derek is an incredibly gifted guitarist in his own right and although he didn't cut loose as much as he does in his own band (Tedeschi Trucks) he still had some killer moments. I'll be seeing them again soon, so I guess I must have enjoyed the band.

  • Stevie Winwood is a great musician

by cheeseandcrackers on 8/28/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I had Steve Winwood on our bucket list for a while. We had never seen him live so when we saw him coming to Connecticut we were in. His play was so good and he played the songs we were hoping he would. When he plays you can see in his face that loves it and if you are not moving to the beat then you are not into music. The night was beautiful and everyone was cool.

  • Gregg still has the voice

by Moru on 8/27/13The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 4 out of 5

Great overall show. Gregg's voice sounded as good as ever. Warren & d Trucks battled back and forth on guitar all night. Percussion with the elder Trucks and co was amazing as well. Wish the show was a bit longer. With intermission the entire show from start to finish was about 2 hrs and 45 mins. Missed playing my favorite ABB songs (Whipping Post, Midnight Rider or One Way Out) but great set list none the less.

  • All good in the hood.

This was a fantastic show from start to finish. I am so glad I went. My mom-in-law and I had a great time!

  • Allmans and Winwood Killin' !!!

by Teleblaster on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 4 out of 5

Great show...both headliners outstanding... Hearing Winwood and Greg sing in the same show - phenomenal. Two of the truly great rock vocalists. "Iconic" is an overused term these days, but this truly was. 6 or 7 of the 100 greatest tunes in rock history were performed with great energy and commitment. As was no doubt the case for all audience members, I had hoped that Winwood would sit in with the Allmans. This did not happen, but truthfully, it was fine nonetheless. Sound was good, not great. We had a seating issue - one of our two seats was broken. Theater staff were very helpful in promptly finding us alternate seats, but unfortunately, they were directly behind the aisle that folks use to enter and exit the venue, so we had to deal with a continual flow of humanity throughout the show. Fortunately, these are artists to be heard more than watched, so we dealt. I deducted a star because of the seating issue. Musically - Amazing !

  • Play me a tune....

by DrHunterSThompson on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

Something to make us all happy. Steve Winwood - wow, huh? The brothers? Well, it was the brothers. Greg looked and sounded great! Derek and Warren lit it up as usual! And they have the best percussion section in the world. What can you say, it was the Allman Brothers Band! Another scorching night. Very cool. Don't miss'em.

  • Wow, what a concert!

by Anonymous on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

Started on time. Steve Winwood was outstanding and played all the favorites. Would have like him to join the Allman Brothers later on. The Allman Brothers really rocked and gave the concert goer more than their money's worth. It was a spectacular concert from beginning to end.

  • Steve Winwood still awesome and Allman Bros!

by EllenCT on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

For older musicians, they still sounded awesome! The show was great.

  • Steve Winwood stole the show !

by LiaRose on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 4 out of 5

Steve Winwood is awesome ! He should headline shows vs just backup. His songs, music, and vocals are still top notch ! The Allman Brothers were also great and they are still icons of rock and roll. Gregg's voice is ok but is supported by the other band members and the music. A lot of instrumentals but that is classic Allman Brothers. Would like to have heard Whipping Post and Mellissa.

  • Allman Bros rocked!

    by TFish1226 on 8/27/13Comcast Theatre - HartfordRating: 5 out of 5

Although I have seen the Allman brothers numerous times I always enjoy seeing them once more. They played all the classics along with a Hendirx tune from Axis - 1983( a merman I should turn to be), which had Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks jamming out! Mountain Jam was mixed into that which was pretty cool! Steve Winwood was awesome also as a warm up! He played some great Traffic, Blind Faith and Spencer Davis songs! Just a great night of awesome music!
