About

Based on the iconic characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, THE ADDAMS FAMILY is the smash hit musical comedy now starring film, TV and stage star Brooke Shields as Morticia and Tony Award® winner Roger Rees as Gomez. THE ADDAMS FAMILY features an original story. It's every parent's nightmare. Your little girl has suddenly become a young woman, and what's worse, has fallen deliriously in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a "normal" boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, it's a shocking development that turns the Addams house upside down when they are forced to host a dinner for the young man and his parents.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY has a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (librettists of the 2006 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Jersey Boys), music and lyrics by Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), direction and design by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter, The Metropolitan Opera's Satyagraha) and choreography by Sergio Trujillo (Next to Normal, Jersey Boys).

    Very Funny

by crok1 on 8/23/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

I thought the Adamms Family was very funny, Nathan Lane was hysterical, so was Bebe as Morticia, the entire cast was great, Wendy was fantastic, it was a play for the entire family

    Enjoyed the play

by Julie0829 on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Disappointed that Nathan Lane was not the Gomez character - instead we got the understudy. Came all the way from Northern Indiana, with one in the group from Phoenix area and the other from Northern California, expected to see both Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth and didn't see Nathan Lane. However, the play was very enjoyable. I do commend the man who played Gomez - did a great job. We had a 15 year old male with us and he was very happy with the play and that really helped make the experience terrific.

    The Addms Family was delightful

by CTcountrygirl on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

We attended a matinee performance of The Addams Family with a Group of 10. The consensus of the group was excellent!!! Everyone tought the performance was well staged and the actors were all perfectly suited to their roles. Nathan Lane - as always - is a hoot. He certainly brings humor and delight to this role as he does with any role he portrays. Bebe Neuwirth was Morticia - absolutely!!! Who knew "Fraser's ex-wife" was so talented!!. The character of Uncle Fester was played to perfection. "Lurch" was lots of fun and just as stoic as we recalled from the old TV series. Grandma was full of humor and wisdom " stop texting and pick up a book" ; the children - Wednesday and Puglsie were complete with their usual sense of tortuous playmates!!! Also good to see "Thing" make an appearance. Our entire group agreed that the choice we made to attend The Addams Family as our first theater group outing was a great decision - and a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon in NYC

    Very disappointing

by DisappointedinDahlonega on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

We were dreadfully disappointed with The Addams Family. Nathan Lane did not appear, which started things off on the wrong foot. We found the script to be disjointed, the music to be forgettable and the acting - for the most part - to be unimpressive. This show could have been so much better. We left after the second song in Act II. We have NEVER walked out of a Broadway show before.

    The Addams Family

by Rarebird on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

This show exceeded my expectations. Despite the absence of Nathan Lane at the performance I attended, the show was fabulous and hilarious and the entire cast performed to perfection.

    missin' nathan lane

by beenjammin on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

The role of Gomez seemed to be tailor made for Nathan Lane. Unfortunately, an illness has caused him to miss several performances. His understudy was good--but not Nathan Lane. I purchased my tickets at full price months ago. Many, many disappointed people in the audience.

The Addams Family - Fun to See

by Notch on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

This show starts out as fun and continues with light humor and entertainment. The daughter, Wednesday has an outstanding voice and performs with ease and is a pleasure to hear. The understudy for the role of Alice was equally amazing. I would have liked to see a larger role for Terrance Mann, Nathan Lane sounded better than he has in past roles. If there was any disappointment, it was Bebe Neuwirth. She did not sound as well as she has in the past and her dance sequence was uninspiring but it could have been the choreography or the limits of the costume; although, the dress was lifted and pinned at the waist for this dance. All in all, the show was fun and I would recommend it with 3out 5 stars; however, I have to wonder if this show will continue to be successful after the original cast leaves.

    A little long

by Phaedrus39 on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Thoroughly enjoyable - Nathan is is so talented - his timing and delivery is impeccable. Supporting cast is excellent. I found that it began to slow a little towards the end of the first act but I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends.

    Very Entertaining

by Rodes on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

We enjoyed the play a lot. The performances by the cast as a whole were very good and Nathan and Bebe were at their usual crowd pleasing best. The supporting cast was also very good. However, I don't think it would be as good without Nathan and Bebe. This is a play that is pretty much dependent on the actors. Plays like Les Miserables and Phantom can stand on their own and do well with relatively unknowns, but I don't feel this one can.

    Surprisingly Amazing

by VictoriaElizabeth123 on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

I am hesitant for any musical made from a television show or movie or comics, but this show really made the cut. We saw Nathan Lane's understudy, which I was originally very disappointed about, but he was very good, which is important since he is on stage most of the time! I think the sets were great as well and the show's use of the curtain was something I had never seen in the theater.

    Nathan Lane IS the star...

by singabob on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

of this very silly, poorly written musical...and you feel for him. He does his best and really elevates dribble to something watchable but oh, what a lost opportunity! Go if you are a fan of his.

    Loved Addams Family

by jnkc on 8/22/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

We were in awe of BB and seeing Nathan was a life dream come true with no disappointment. The show itself, I'm happy to think is well done and will survive beyond these stars as cast.

    Addams Family was great

by Anonymous on 8/21/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Unfortunately Nathan Lane was not in the title role the night we went which was a downer, but Bebe Neuwirth was fantastic. The double entendres were flying and everyone was enjoying themselves. Lurch was also a big hit!!

The Addams Family was a great romp!

by maggiemew on 8/21/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Went to see the Addams Family last night in NY. Nathan Lane was a no show which was a bit of a disappointment but the standby Merwin Foard was great. Bebe Neuwirth was the perfect Morticia. Carolee Carmello who plays Alice Beineke Jackie Hoffman who plays Grandma steal the show though with their comedy. Bebe Neuwirth's dancing was amazing. The songs were fun with some subtle and not so subtle references to other plays. While there were children at this play and they enjoyed seemed to enjoy it... this is a play for adults with adult humor. The surprising puppetry was cute.

It was good, but no Nathan Lane

by cmalari on 8/20/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Everyone in the theater was disappointed to learn that Nathan Lane wasn't going to be there, but his stand-in did a very good job. Bebe Neuwirth was great. The story was weak and overall it was too long. I said I would recommend it and gave it 3 stars, but that 's a little bit of a stretch; I'm really on the fence. I don't think this will be a long running show.

    Nathan Who?

by Frate on 8/20/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

My wife, daughter and I got tickets for last night's (Aug. 19th) performance. To our dismay, the cast board advised that the part of Gomez was being played my Merwin Foard. (Is that really someone's name?) Theater staff told us that Mr. Lane was ill and had no voice at all. We had gone to extra efforts to find out when Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth would be on vacation because we really wanted to see them. Friends who saw the show said it was good but that seeing Nathan and Bebe was the real reason to see it. We considered asking for a refund or tickets to a later performance, but decided to see the show anyway. Best move we could have made! Merwin Foard was terrific as Gomez!!! He sounds a bit like Nathan Lane and resembles him a little, although he is much taller. The show doesn't miss a beat with Mr. Foard in the lead. My daughter opined that he probably played Gomez a little more masculinely than Nathan would have, but, after all, Gomez is a very masculine, romantic, Latin character, so the interpretation works well. While Nathan probably would have been a litle more over the top, Foard is AT the top and the show has to be just as good with him in the male lead. Bebe Nuewirth is also terrific, as is the entire cast. Their voices are wonderful and their timing was perfect. The show is witty, fast paced, hysterical, and completely entertaining. There are great New York and topical references and some obvious jokes where you know the punch line that's coming but laugh in advance anyway. The sets are imaginative and cleverly manipulated during scene changes. The scenery itself becomes part of the show at various points. It is one of the funniest, most entertaining musicals we have ever seen, and we've seen enough of them to know. Don't hesitate to buy tickets and don't you won't be disappointed if you see Merwin Foard on the casting board as Gomez. We hope Nathan Lane recovers soon and completely, but he can rest assured his part is being well cared for.

    The Addams Family

by Brontecole on 8/20/10Lunt-Fontanne Theatre - New York

Campy, not for everyone. Some really great moments and some, been there, done that. The ghosts were amazing and during some scenes actually seemed ghostly. Wednesday was a real personality departure. Hard to believe that she could change that much. Loved Grandmama, and also, Uncle Fester's bizarre "Love Scene"!
