Compelling, funny and very well acted. The actors were amazing in the roles as actors and stage hands.

4 INSANELY TALENTED ACTORS, 150 ROLES
100 BREAKNECK MINUTES OF SHEER THEATRICAL FUN FOR EVERYONE FROM AGES 9 TO 90
“The two-time Tony® Award-winning 39 Steps is a comedic spoof of the classic 1935 film, with only 4 actors portraying more than 150 characters, sometimes changing roles in the blink of an eye. The show’s uproarious fast-paced 100 minutes promises to leave you gasping for breath… in a good way! The brilliantly madcap story follows our dashing hero Richard Hannay as he races to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps, all the while trying to clear his name!”
Ben Brantley of the New York Times called it “Absurdly enjoyable,” “A perfect soufflé,” and “Theatre at its finest.” Liz Smith of the New York Post called it “The most entertaining show on Broadway, ” and Joe Dziemianowicz of the Daily News said it’s “Ingenious! A Dizzy Delight!”

We all really liked the show. The actors were terrific, with perfect timing. The production was perfectly paced. The show was a loving tribute to the old Alfred Hitchcock movie, adding more humor which was thoroughly enjoyable. This was one of the best shows I have seen in the Chicago area over the past thirty years.

by HitchcockPK on 8/28/12Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceBest. Play. Ever. Hysterical, bursting laugh out loud funny for all ages. Took my 15 year old daughter, she enjoyed it as much (if not more) than I did. Cannot believe how fast the play moved, how action packed it was, and how much there was to see from just four actors! Astounding. Already searching for dates to see it again before it leaves town. The only warning I would give is that the British/Irish accents used during the play by the actors make it extremely difficult to understand in spots. Many people around us kept asking us what the actors were saying. Since we're fans of the BBC network we were able to understand it better than most around us, but at times even we found ourselves wondering what had just been said. It's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of the full 5.

The actors did a phenomenal job - their quick change of costumes from character to character was so well done. The British humor was great and the whole show was very enjoyable. A great evening of entertainment if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. Would recommend to anyone.

by SundayAfternoonFun on 8/21/12Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceThe play The 39 Steps was great!! I had read reviews highly recommending it. Knowing it was based on the Alfred Hitchcock movie, I didn't expect so much comedy. I was pleasantly surprised. The fact the all the characters were played by four actors was amazing. Actually most of the characters were played by 2 actors. The quick change from character to character was a joy to watch. The acting was superb. My niece and I thoroughly enjoyed the play. I would see it again and bring along friends and family as it was a fun afternoon.

by skieril on 8/21/12Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook TerraceThis was a great take on the original film. There are only 4 actors doing multiple characters. These people were great. Their timing was impeccable. They were able to give the illusion of movement on the train, room scene changes, etc. It was a mystery but full of humor. One of the more entertaining plays we've seen in awhile. Good play for a smaller venue.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Highly recommend this play

Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/19/12Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace It was constant action and funny, although because it was British and sometimes Scottish accents that were used, it was hard to understand because the sound system is not the greatest there.

Rating: 3 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/13/12Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook Terrace - Oakbrook Terrace I've seen this play performed in Portland and I thought the Portland performance was better. Bottom line is that this show is not worth what you're going to spend to see it.
