It was great seeing the local Texas Stars up against their "teammates" of the Dallas Stars. The venue is set up nice so that you have a pretty good view from any seat. The only complaint I have is that if you sit in rows E and up, you will be uncomfortable if you are tall. I am 6'5", my brother is 6'5", and my other friend who went is 6'9" and while my brother and I had to squeeze our knees in and had them smashed against the seat in front of us the whole game, my taller friend could not even sit down. Luckily, no one was sitting in the seat in front of him. I don't expect venues to cater to tall people, but if you're looking for tickets to future events and you've got long legs, make sure to get within rows A-D (they looked to have more leg room) or go with someone who has a suite. Overall a great atmosphere, though. I'll be going back.

Texas Stars - Dallas Stars Game

by RRStarsFan on 10/2/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

What a thrill to have top-quality hockey in the Austin area. We attened the Stars v. Stars game Wednesday night and it was a great time. The traffic situation was apparently much better than it was for previous events at the Cedar Park Center. I highly recommend using the turn around north of New Hope Road because it gives you access to 3 different entrances into the parking lot. Once they opened the doors (about 10 minutes after 6 pm), we encountered the first issue of the night - there were more entrances open than they had ticket scanners available and there were too few tables for people with bags versus people without bags. This led to people going on both sides of the tables and the bag checkers not knowing which side to check. An inconvenience, but no big deal. Once we got inside, we walked around the entire arena - there are plentiful food and beverages stands so the lines aren't too bad. Definitely shorter lines than at the Dallas Stars home in American Airlines Center in Dallas. The food prices are similar to any other sports venue - but the amount of food is considerably more than most venues. This is a brand-new facility and it will take some time for all the staff to get things down - the concession staff was a bit unorganized and was somewhat slow to process orders - but they will eventually get the process down. The arena is beautiful - not a bad seat viewing-wise anywhere in the areana. The only negative I will give the CPC is that the seats - and I mean all seats - are too close together from row to row. A person of average height - 5'9" - will have their knees in the back of the seat in front of them. It makes eating or drinking in your seat VERY uncomfortable. I recommend eating your food out in the lobby. I also recommend getting lids for sodas or drinking at least 1/3 of a beverage without a lid prior to setting it in the cup holder - the cupholders are tilted toward your seat, so if you put a full drink in it , some of it will spill out. The seat rows are so close together, everyone in the row will have to stand up to let you out. When I said something about the rows being so close together, a person next to me said the original plan was revised at the last minute to include two extra rows of seats in the seating bowl. That explains the cramped quarters. Another thing that will improve with time is the hockey knowledge of the fans. On this first night, too many people were standing up during play on the ice, too many kids were hopping from seat to seat, and too many people were standing up talking on their cell phone. There is a reason the ushers won't let fans return to their seats until there is a break in the action - but once you are allowed to return, take your seat immediately. Overall, the the experience was a good one. The CPC staff was friendly, accomodating and eager to please. The ticket prices are reasonable for the quality of hockey we're going to get to see, the concession prices are reasonable, the food quality is good, the beer is cold and the arena itself is a great place to watch a hockey game. We'll definitely return for many more games - we'll just eat our hot dogs before we go to our seats! Welcome to Central Texas, Texas Stars! We're glad you're here. Good luck on your first season!

Great Game, Great Center, Bad Box Office

by morethanagame on 10/2/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

We had a great time at the inaugural Texas Stars game. We were very impressed with the new events center and congratulate all those who worked to make it happen. We were disappointed in the box office management. Not enough tellers, confused tellers and management standing around watching the chaos caused a more than 30-minute wait. The morning news announced a sell-out crowd and worries about parking, but there was only 1 will call window open. The second window opened at 6:55 and a 3rd after the game started. We've never missed the opening face off of any game - we did this time. Front of house is your first impression - they blew it.

Game was great and enteraining. Facility is super. Parking is a little costly. Worst thing is that the seat rows are way too close together.

great game less than stellar experience

by dchi2001 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

I have been a fan of hockey for 15 years and was so excited to finally have the game in Central Texas at a competative level. While I enjoyed watching the game, i was not able to enjoy the experience as I was not able to fit in my seat. I physically could not even get my feet to touch the floor as the sees are so small and crammed together. I currently have bruises on both shins from being pressed on the seat in fromt of me and several other people in our section were complaining of the cramped space as well. I dont think I will being going back since I cant even comfortably sit and enjoy the game

    Stars vs. Stars

by TOR56 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

My wife and I went to the game last night and we both enjoyed the game. There are some kinks in the system, parking was slow, will call was ridiculous (print your own tickets), and the concessions were terribly run. They were extremely slow. I'm hoping for future events things get better as there is plenty of room for improvement.

Glad Stars here, toobad small cheap arena

by JohnnyX10 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

It was good to see the Dallas Stars and the Texas Stars but it's too bad that the Texas Stars have a small, cheap arena with everything way overpriced ->$10 parking and $7 beers(beers that take about 20 minutes to buy). The Travis County Expo Center where the Austin Icebats played wasn't great, unless it's compared to this place. -Won't be coming back anytime soon

    Costly Stars

by austinsportsfan on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

I was so excited to go see my first hockey game. The tickets were a little pricey, but I thought it would be worth it. I was disappointed in the prices once we arrived. $80 for 2 tickets...okay. $10 to park...really? I expected concessions to be expensive and they were. $25 for a hot dog, pretzel, soda, and water. The biggest disappointment was the leg room. I am tall, and the seats are sooooo close together. The hockey game was enjoyable, but I was very unimpressed with the new venue in Cedar Park. The people who put the seats in definitely weren't planning on ever using them. They probably sit in the box seats up top.

    Fun game...poor event planning

by Zeecon on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

For a new era in a new facility, I was completely let down by the amentities. Parking in Cedar Park Texas at $10 and $20 per car. Half the price to park in downtown Austin for UT! Hell, paid less to park for a STARS GAME IN DALLAS. Seating - reminded me of growing up on the ranch. How many could I herd into the trailer without actually investing in a bigger trailer. PACKED IN. Place only hold about 6500 people, so 20% of the space was wasted on SUITES - this isnt Jerry World or our beloved DKR....and yet 18 to 20 private suites...while the rest are packed shoulder to shoulder...hmmm Party Pass anyone? LOL And finally, the City - bless the Police Officers for doing there ver best as always with a terrible situation. The city was involved in this planning, yet no traffic lights, no turn lanes, nothing to assist in getting to the site...and good luck if your coming from ay direction but Leander. No west bound turning until after the place, then in a U-Turn around situation that, again, just bless the men and women in blue putting up with that mess. Concessions were kinda pricey for a small venue though - I spend less at a UT Game for example. And Im wondering how long it will take to figure out the horrible idea of serving BBQ dinners with beans on plates in a small log jam such as this.

    Pro hockey is back!

by Wolfie1970 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

Pro hockey is back and I am so excited. To be have be part of a class organization like the Dallas Stars is pure bliss. The Cedar Park Center will be an excellent home for the Stars and I look forward to going to alot of games this year and forever. Bring the Calder Cup to Texas!

    Cedar Park Arena

by HockeyMusicFan on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

I have been to many venues in the United States. I now live about 20 miles from the Cedar Park Arena. I was over-joyed to see that this new arena was opeining and going to have minor league hockey and music events. The sight lines are Great in the arena, however the seating is the WORST I've ever been in. I'm average weight and 6 ft tall, but even if someone is 5'4, the chairs are WAY to narrow and the distance between rows is only suited to small children. ENTIRE rows have to stand for anyone to get in and out of the aisles. For the sake of revenue they have made an arena that is not comfortable for anyone. I will attend a concert to see if the floor seating is better, although I don't usually like to sit on the floor during concerts, but I can only hope that they at least give a patron some comfort when they put in the temp. concert floor seating.

    Dallas Stars, Texas Stars

by johnh2o on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

it was an amazing game and the view is fantastic. they played a really hard game and i only wish that Dallas' backup goalie, who started for Texas, had played a little better for the Texas Stars.

Great Hockey, the arena not so much

by tBrown2 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

I think the hockey will get better every week. The Stars have a lot of talent and will get better the more they play together. The passing will come together and they will gel when they spend a little more time getting to know each other. Yeah the price for parking was to expensive, $5 is more than enough. Yep there is still growing pains that the arena will go through to learn about how to be a good hockey venue. What I could not get past was the arena seating. I am six foot and there is no way to sit comfortably in the seats. You have to put your knees on either side of the chair in front of you and tuck your feet under you. Not comfortable for any length of time. The drink holders while a good idea only add to the misery of trying to find someplace to put your legs. It is my impression the builders forgot that this is Texas and built this place for little people.

The Hockey was GREAT! The arena not os much

by tBrown2 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

The hockey with the Stars vs Stars was as much fun as I had hoped. It was great to finally see Dallas in person. I loved watching the intensity of the teams and the skills of the players. What I didn't like was the arena was built for little people. I am six foot tall and had to sit with my feet tucked under me as my legs hit the back of the seat in front of me. There is no way for an average size person to sit comfortably. I have been to arenas all over the country and this is the first time I could not sit with my feet in front of me. I almost pulled the trigger on season tickets for the Texas Stars put something told me I needed to check out the seating before I did. I am so glad I listened and waited. Had I paid the thousands of dollars for the season and then be forced to sit in really uncomfortable small seats I would be very upset. It is almost worth it to watch the caliber of hockey that the Stars play but I would hesitate going back.

    Awesome!

by gostars on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

The venue was great! The new Cedar Park arena is amazing. There is no such thing as a bad seat. My only complaint was there is little to no leg room for those of us with long legs, but it was worth the pain in my knees! Let's just hope they continue the Battle of the Stars every year! What a great way to kick off the season!

    Yay Hockey! Boo Tiny Seats...

by KIDA26 on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

The facility is awesome with the one exception of the seats being way too tiny. I am a pretty average sized guy at five foot eleven and 210 pounds, and my knees were crushed up against the seat in front of me. There was a really tall guy sitting next to us that had to put his legs over the seat in front of him because he couldn't fit in the seat normally. there seems to be some rows that are better than where we sat though. One row in front of us had an extra couple of inches in leg room which was very comfortable. I guess it's just luck of the draw with which row you get? We sat in section 105 row E, which should be avoided. If you move up to the next row wich should be row D you will be fine. Those seats are 3 rows away from the glass. The on-ice product was alot better than the seating. Definitely worth going to some games there, but be selective about your seats.

    Dallas Stars vs Texas Stars

by lmaston on 10/1/09Cedar Park Center - Cedar Park

The arena was great! Parking was fine, although $10 seemed a little steep to park. Couldn't you charge $5 to park and still make a decent profit? Once I entered and received the program I noticed a large add on the back of the program for Bud Light with Lime. I was immediately excited and looked at every single vending location to buy a Bud Light with Lime and none was offered. I was a little disappointed that you would advertise a product then not have it available. The seats were very comfortable. I was a little frustrated that I didn't always realize when a goal was scored because unlike other hockey games there was not a loud horn that blew to alert you to a goal. Also, when a penalty occurred there wasn't an announcement to state the penalty. I thought it was really odd that the folks directing you to your seat would not let you enter the arena while the puck was in play. I've been to a lot of pro hockey games and I have never experienced that. Just let the folks go to their seats. It is no more disruptive then those already in their seats getting up and moving out of their row to go to the concessions or the bathroom.
