About

TESSERACT IN CONCERT:

British prog-metal titans Tesseract are pioneers of the djent metal technique characterized by distorted, palm-muted guitar chords, joining bands like Meshuggah and Textures as torchbearers of the niche style. With their syncopated riffs, epic solos, and distinctive djent playing, the band put on one heck of an epic live show, slaying fans around the globe with the bludgeoning force of thunderous tracks like "Nascent" and "Nocturne." Back on the road for their latest tour, fans of face-melting metal can expect total satisfaction as the band shred their way through their catalog.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Started by Acle Kahney in 2003, Tesseract emerged from the burgeoning djent metal scene pioneered by Kahney and other guitarists like Periphy's Misha Mansoor and Monuments' John Browne. After years of establishing the style and building a band around the project, Kahney and Tesseract released the Concealing Fate EP in 2010 before embarking on a headlining tour in support of the release. The EP formed the basis of their 2011 debut One, which made considerable waves among the metal community and earned them the Progressive Music Award for New Blood. Sophomore album Altered States would follow in 2013, earning the band another round of praise and paving the way for continued touring.

Great show, high energy, awesome visual light show. This was my first time seeing these bands and TesseracT killed it. They played almost spot on to the originals, something most bands cant do these days

Great show - could have better sound.

by Jon on 10/19/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

The show was amazing, and the staff was helpful. Security check-in and scanning went smoothly. My only gripe with the venue is the sound mix usually lacks and there isn’t a good spot on GA balcony.

    Bad Sound

by AMG on 10/16/23Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New York

As a fan seeing them headline for the first time, this show really missed the mark. Almost entirely bass coming out of the PA, it was a big disappointment. It seema a lot of these tours try and cram too many bands on the bill and sound suffers as a result. Would have been better to have two bands instead of three and a proper sound check.

    TesseracT 10/10 - a MUST see band

by SuperJoeBros on 10/16/23Irving Plaza Powered By Verizon 5G - New York

I had an amazing time seeing TesseracT at Irving Plaza! They put on a phenomenal show, as well as Intervals and Alluvial. Thank you for coming to the US! The venue had friendly and helpful staff. The temperature was comfortable overall, which I find important for a sold out show. One piece of advice for the venue; I know a sold out show can be overwhelming. The line went around the block and blocked a parking garage. It created some confusion when the folks standing in line needed to create space for the parking garage. Otherwise, an amazing experience!

Great performance, but heavy use of backing tracks

by CO on 10/14/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

Tight, well-rehearsed performance. Especially impressed with the bassist. Good lighting effects. My only complaint is that the band used quite a bit of backing tracks, including some prerecorded vocals. I understand this is likely intended to provide the harmonies that the vocalist does on the records by layering a few different vocal parts himself. The backing tracks also provided some of the transitional effects between songs. The negative result of these tracks is that when the audience hears vocals that are not live, they are distracted from what the band is doing well. For example, on a sustained high note, after hitting the note, the vocalist pulled the mic away from his mouth, yet in the backing track, the vocals continued and even changed pitch as the audience saw no band members singing into mics. It gives the (false) impression that the vocalist is unable to perform the songs live without assistance, and one is left wondering how much of the vocals one heard were actually live. I would recommend that the band at least do away with the backing vocal tracks - if not the backing tracks entirely. As for the harmonies heard on the records: either have other band members provide the backing vocals live on stage, or simply have the lead vocalist sing the lead part and not worry about the harmonies. Audiences appreciate the fact that it's not possible to achieve an identical sound to the record; the beauty of live shows is that the music is authentically live and spontaneous. I think the band should lean into this element of performance to put their talent and hard work on full display.

    Super show, Class Act

by Paul on 10/13/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Concert was awesome. Super energy, great mix of new album and past material. Great opening bands as well. Attended the VIP and all band members are so gracious and friendly. It was a true honor to meet them. A lifelong memorable experience for me and my daughter. Thank you guys! Only recommendation is to have a better preparation for the Meet and Greet. We got there super early but there was confusion as to where to register and wait, so we ended up near the back.

    Great Show, Not Great Merch

    by B. B. on 10/12/23

The show was great. It was a solid musical performance. If I was judging on visuals… it was mostly the singer, the barefoot bassist with Steven Wilson vibes, and the lights… there were a whole ton of lights. The biggest complaint of the night was barely five minutes from doors open at the merch tables. They were out of almost every size and no M or L. So, whoever was in charge of ordering merch did not do a good of estimating. Also, they toured with Alluvial and Intervals. Alluvial was a solid performance, but not a lot of variation in their songs. Intervals was better musically, but since they are only instrumentals it makes it a pretty boring set.

    An energizing performance!!

by Robert on 10/8/23The Underground - Charlotte

First off as someone who is a fan of both TesseracT and Intervals, this was a great lineup and both bands were absolutely on fire. This was my first time seeing TesseracT live as someone who’s been a fan for about 10 years, so I came in with them having an already established larger than life persona in my mind. They delivered on every aspect of that. Not only that that kept things moving at a fast pace and really checked all of the boxes of the songs I was hoping to hear. The mix was top notch, the band’s performance was flawless and I walked away energized at the end of the night. Kudos to both TesseracT and Intervals for an outstanding opening night of their tour!!

    Amazing venue and performance

by JustJayOk on 4/28/18The Masquerade - Atlanta

Tesseract did their thing. Plini and Astronoid as well. For the price you really can't get a better performance. Clean venue was also a plus, and it was packed but enough space. Will be back!

    Tesseract are incredible live!

by Blokeyking on 4/28/18The Masquerade - Atlanta

To start Astronoid, who I'd not really listened to sounded like they had some awesome material. My only issue with them were that they were not balanced right so a lot of the melody and the vocalist were lost to the bass and drum. When I could hear it was great! Plini came on and the balance was much better. Again I don't know much of their stuff but it sounded great. My wife wasn't a fan of that style of music (no vocals), but even she enjoyed several of their songs! Then Tesseract came on and just completely nailed it. As with all the live stuff I've seen they create an amazing set that just seems to flow from one song perfectly into the next, with some great showmanship from Dan to tie it all together. The only issue I had was that they played Of Matter: Proxy and Retrospect but didn't finish it up with Resist (which is my favourite song) and it just felt a little bit incomplete, but that's just a matter of opinion as by cutting that song they were able to add a different banger from their collection! Here's to hoping that they can play Resist next time!
