Tennessee Volunteers Men’s Basketball History

The University of Tennessee men's basketball regularly makes noise in the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, with some recent deep runs to their credit. The Volunteers made a marquee run to the Elite Eight in 2010, when they fell to Michigan State in a one-point loss, but matched their March Madness peak with back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2024 and 2025.

The Volunteers are currently coached by former University of Texas head coach Rick Barnes, who took the job in Knoxville in 2015. After a rocky start, Barnes guided them to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances starting in 2018. Under Barnes, the Vols have also captured two of Tennessee’s 12 regular season conference titles and its first conference tournament championship since 1979 (in 2022).

Tennessee has sent luminaries to the pros, like Dale Ellis, Allan Houston, C.J. Watson and the legendary Bernard King, who joined the New York Knicks in the ’80s.

  • Very good EXCEPT

by The Man on 10/29/25Food City Center - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Been coming to bb games for many years now and it is always a pretty good experience. The bathroom facility changes in the last few years has made all the difference in the world for men and women. The only complaint that I have is that you can no longer park near the stadium without paying. Ticket prices are way too much for the average fan and now parking is an issue. The shuttle has been good but for the Duke game the previous routes have been changed for this year and the drop-off and pick up points around the stadium are lousy! Please go back to the old drop-off and pick up points around the stadium or give us some free parking in at least one of the garages.

  • Game was Great. View sucked.

by VolMama on 2/19/25Food City Center - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

This was our first Vol basketball game, and it was absolutely amazing! The pregame and halftime show almost rivaled that of the football games! I didn't expect that at all! Of course, our Vols didn't disappoint! The game itself was edge of our seat exciting! My only complaint was that the tickets that we bought had an obstructed view. We would not have chosen those tickets, had we known. Ticketmaster needs to do better with the layout of this venue, because the jumbotrons block the view, and, if nothing else, the ticket prices need to reflect that. So, my only complaint is not with the game itself, but with Ticketmaster.

  • Great Atmosphere

We really enjoyed the men's basketball game. This is one of our favorite NCAA Basketball venues. I truly believe this is one of the few arenas where there is no such thing as a bad seat. Some may be closer to the court but any view is fabulous.

  • Great time!

  • Extremely easy

by Vol fan on 2/5/25Food City Center - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The purchasing process was about like normal - review the seating chart and available options, make your selections, and enter your card info. Where it was so easy was entry. They sent me an e-mail a couple of days before the game with our virtual tickets attached. Scanned the QR code and we were in. Just took a few seconds for both of us.

  • Family time

  • Had fun

by Ballgame was great. Tickets are high on 1/7/25Food City Center - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Ticket prices for a low rated game where that of the likes of an auburn or Kentucky game.

  • Great night out with the family

by FamilyMan on 12/27/24Food City Center - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Took my wife and daughter to the game and had a great time. Lines were long while waiting for the trolly and we were about 35-40 minutes late for the tip-off as a result. Arrived at the ticket check line and it was slow as well. Got to the area and the food lines were crazy outrageous till the last ten minutes of the second half. You can’t expect to come to a game the Monday before Christmas and it not be a packed house. However, we enjoyed the game and our food. Altogether it was a great experience.

  • Great seats and flawless entry into arena.

This was a great game and a nice arena. We had never been there but really enjoyed it. Parking was easy to find and also very reasonable.
