Tennessee Volunteers Men’s Basketball History
The University of Tennessee men's basketball regularly makes noise in the SEC Tournament and NCAA Tournament, with some recent deep runs to their credit. The Volunteers made a marquee run to the Elite Eight in 2010, when they fell to Michigan State in a one-point loss, but matched their March Madness peak with back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2024 and 2025.
The Volunteers are currently coached by former University of Texas head coach Rick Barnes, who took the job in Knoxville in 2015. After a rocky start, Barnes guided them to seven consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances starting in 2018. Under Barnes, the Vols have also captured two of Tennessee’s 12 regular season conference titles and its first conference tournament championship since 1979 (in 2022).
Tennessee has sent luminaries to the pros, like Dale Ellis, Allan Houston, C.J. Watson and the legendary Bernard King, who joined the New York Knicks in the ’80s.

We got Lexus lounge tickets and it was very much worth it. Great food, great service and great time.
The young Tennessee Vols Men's Basketball Team showed fans their athletic ability and hustle as they worked hard to contain Gonzaga's 7 footers!
The game was great! Bridgestone is a beautiful venue and they have really improved their concessions and the appearances therein. The entertainment during time-out's was lots of fun too! It was a great day out for our family.
