About

Featuring two of the funniest comedy minds in America, the hard-rocking, hilarious duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass -- better known as Tenacious D -- have delivered thousands of side-splitting laughs through their profanely hysterical songs ever since their inception in 1994. The duo describe themselves (with tongue firmly in cheek) as "The Greatest Band in the World." From venues like Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion to Radio City Music Hall, Tenacious D tour-goers lucky enough to see them in concert will get every single cent's worth of their ticket price through all the big laughs in their rollicking and foul fake arena-rock songs. Expect plenty of crowd-participation singalongs in the middle of big, crunchy electric guitar riffs that make up insanely catchy songs.

Tenacious D is currently riding high on the wave of commercial and critical acclaim for their latest album, 2012's "Rise of the Fenix." This comedy-rock masterpiece features hilarious songs, like the title track "Rise of the Fenix," "Low Hanging Fruit," "To Be the Best" and "They F----- Our A----." It was the latest success in a long and varied career for the band, which first gained popularity through their appearances on the David Cross/Bob Odenkirk sketch show, "Mr. Show With Bob and David," in the early 1990s. Their first album, "Tenacious D," featured drum work from the great Dave Grohl and two memorable singles in "Tribute" and "Wonderboy." In between Jack Black's prolific movie career, the band found the time to make their own movie -- "Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny" -- and released an accompanying soundtrack to the film in 2006. The self-proclaimed "greatest band in the world" might be inconsistent as far as their album-releasing and touring schedule goes, owing to the A-list movie star status of one of its members, but fans can rest assured that when they come around, they'll deliver some of the funniest, rocking-est tunes to ever be penned.

    D licious!!

by TheBigDub on 6/26/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The D put on a great musical and theatrical performance. My mind was blown and my sock were rocked. The acoustics of the Ryman were top notch. My only issue is with the upper balconies restriction of my view. Had I know about this beforehand, balcony seating would have been opted for. I otherwise had a wonderful time

    Excellent live music and comedy

by Electrocat on 6/25/12The Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I wasn't familiar with the music of Tenacious D until recently so this was my first experience seeing them live. I was not disappointed. The sound at The Ryman Auditorium was very good and because it's a small venue, you have a more personal experience with the performers in my opinion. Jack Black and Kyle Gass were awesome! I was expecting the level of live comedy that they performed, but was very surprised at how good they were musically! The band that was backing them was extremely talented also! I highly recommend this show!

    Legends in action!

by GoAPP on 6/25/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

It was great to finally see "The D" live! Jack's voice and stage presence was awesome, as expected. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, but would have liked to have seen a little more production and skits throughout the show. Still loved it though!

The D Rocks In True Rock N Roll Style

    by drumbeast72 on 6/25/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

What a great show! These guys are true Rock and Roll to the core! We got there late because of traffic and parking and missed The Sights, but from what I heard we didn't miss much! Movie star fame and stardom can't destroy The Metal and Jack Black will rock your face off! I did notice that it seems like he plays guitar a lot less these days, but he is such an entertainer it doesn't matter. The backing band are great musicians! I'm tired of people whining about Dave Grohl not playing drums on the road. Really? Don't you think he is kinda busy with other things? Brooks Wackerman is one of the best/most versatile drummers around and kills it with The D. Kyle spent quit a while outside the venue signing stuff and taking pictures with fans. Both he and JB signed my sons shirt and he is still going on and on about it. Class act! Go see Tenacious D, you will not be sorry. The only negative of the night was the sound in the Ryman. It is historic and cool and all that but if you sit anywhere under the balcony (which it's hard not to), it sounds like crap. It is wired with speakers, but nothing was coming out. Can't believe that isn't connected to the board. Had a great time though and will go see them again if they come close again.

    Tenacious D was AMAZING!!

by jrlepage on 6/25/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

JB and KG were absolutely incredible. Played a variety of songs from all 3 albums including many favorites. Everyone was singing along, KG tossed a bunch of picks to the audience and Jack Black was pouring sweat like crazy he was rocking so hard. Love their sense of humor, joking around with the audience. Definitely one of my favorite bands, and the stage decor for the "Rize of the Fenix" album was hilarious (I won't spoil the surprise). Only downside was the venue's seating were almost like church pews and I had a gigantic dude with huge hair sitting right in front of me in the balcony. Otherwise, it was the perfect evening!

The Rise of the Fenix has totally Risen and will forever stay! Rock on!

by BigNickDawg on 6/25/12Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

What can I say, Tenacious D is back. I have seen many shows at the Ryman, I have never seen everyone on their feet for an entire show. It was unbelievable!!! JB and RageCage left it all out on the floor, truly was spectacular!!!

Everything a Tenacious D fan could have wanted!

by Topher89 on 6/14/12Santa Barbara Bowl - Santa Barbara

The title says it all. They started off playing tracks from their new album (as one would expect on a tour promoting said album), then they went into the classics from their first couple CDs. Jack Black and Kyle Gass were hilarious and impressively refined from a musical standpoint. The lead guitarist touring with them did a great job recreating the classic D solos, while taking enough liberties to sound fresh but not foreign. The 5 members of the band were able to bring the best parts of the Tenacious D catalog to life, even for a nitpicky fan who has listened to each of their songs hundreds of times. Exceeded my already high expectations. Must see for fans of the D!

The D good as usual, but venue sound was crap

by DaRealKJAM on 6/13/12Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I've been to a lot of concerts (50+) spread out probably across 15 or more venues. It seems that an unflattering trend is emerging at shows with regards to the bass levels (either bass and drums or just from the drums) being too high, which drowns out the singing and guitar. The D was victim to this latest trend and it hurt the show. The D put on an otherwise great show.
