TEMPLE OF THE DOG IN CONCERT:

Before they were known as a grunge supergroup that featured members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog was just a one-off tribute to fallen singer Andrew Wood that brought together some seriously talented Seattle musicians for a self-titled album in 1991. As Soundgarden and Pearl Jam reached multi-platinum success later in the '90s, Temple of the Dog's scant live performances became the stuff of myth to all but a lucky few. Now, they're back to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their sole album and blow grunge fans away with favorites like "Hunger Strike," "Say Hello 2 Heaven," and "Pushin Forward Back." The heavy riffs from Pearl Jam guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard will be on tap, and Eddie Vedder's meditative baritone is sure to take fans on a journey with each evocative trill. But things get even better when Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell ups the ante with his gritty multi-octave tenor, making for a dynamic vocal duo that tackles a range of material from elegiac ballads to hard-rocking anthems. Ticket buyers that want to experience this classic moment in Seattle's music history up close and personal can't miss Temple of the Dog on this once-in-a-lifetime reunion tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Andrew Wood and Chris Cornell's friendship stretched back to the early '80s, when Wood's band Malfunkshun would frequently play with Cornell's Soundgarden. Wood later formed Mother Love Bone with Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament (later of Pearl Jam fame), but sadly died of an overdose a few months before their 1990 debut was released. Cornell - Wood's roommate at the time - decided to work through his grief by bringing together a who's-who of Seattle musicians: Gossard, Ament, and Cornell were joined by Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, plus newcomers Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready. Temple of the Dog poured their emotions into a self-titled album that was released in 1991, though few outside Seattle took notice. The members of TOTD moved on a few months later: Cornell and Cameron returned to Soundgarden and released Badmotorfinger, while Vedder, Ament, McCready, and Gossard formed Pearl Jam and released their debut album Ten. When both of those albums became hugely successful staples of grunge music's rise, A&M Records re-released Temple of the Dog's sole LP in 1992 and promoted the single "Hunger Strike," which reached the top ten of the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The side project achieved cult status while Soundgarden and Pearl Jam grew into two of the most influential bands of the '90s. In addition to playing in Soundgarden, drummer Matt Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, making unofficial Temple of the Dog reunions possible when Cornell popped up at performances in 2003, 2009, 2011, and 2014. Fans eager for an official reunion got their wish when the band announced a full-scale tour for the 25th anniversary of their self-titled album. Lovers of the Seattle sound are sure to jump on this second chance to see these seasoned rockers across North America.

    Way Beyond Expectations

by DariusG on 11/15/16Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Chris Cornell is the greatest rock singer alive and one of the all time greatest. Temple of the Dog's music is all of 10 songs, so the band performed several Mother Love Bone songs in tribute of the late Andrew Wood, which was not surprising, and then proceeded to blow us away with songs from David Bowie, Syd Barrett, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Free, the Cure and Black Sabbath. Amazing show and Stone, Mike, Jeff and Matt were excellent. The sound at the Bill Graham Civic was great. Can't say enough good things - still beaming.

I thought Temple of the Dog was great. They filled their set list with Mother Love Bone songs and covers from Black Sabith, The Cure and Led Zeppelin as well as others. Bill Graham Civic Center was packed! Glad I got a chance to experience that.

    Pretty Damn Awesome!!!

by Normonster on 11/14/16Bill Gram Civic Center - San Francisco

I saw TOTD November 12th in San Francisco. The shows was totally worth the price and we had a great time. Some of the material they played was not my cup of tea, but for the most part it was pretty well representative of the TOTD era. I would absolutely go see Chris Cornell again in any capacity becasue he has one hell of an awesome voice, live. Fantastic Negrito was not so great for me. The sound was good and they were all clearly very talented musicians, Negrito especially, but the material was bordering on like funk or something. Wasn't a good fit with a 90's grunge act I didn't think. I would not intentionally pay money to see Negrito again, but I have seen much worse opening bands.

    Hope they do another tour

by IckyK on 11/14/16Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

The show was amazing, my only complaint is that I wish they changed the order of their setlist a bit. It seemed choppy and a lot of ups and downs.

    25 Years in the Making

by CaroG87 on 11/10/16Madison Square Garden - New York

Who would have ever believed that Temple of the Dog would tour to support their sole album (to date), given their superstar statuses as members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden? But indeed, that's just what happened ...... and I could not have been more thrilled to be there. From the opening strains of the walk-up music ("Man of Golden Words" instrumental opening) before they launched into "Say Hello 2 Heaven" to the finale of "All Night Thing," it was a wonderful evening. Even in a venue as vast as MSG, you felt like you were among friends just sharing the influences of the music and people who were important to them.

An Hommage to Seattle Rock Heroes

by IroquoisPliskin on 11/10/16Madison Square Garden - New York

As we all expected, this was more than just Temple of the Dog. It's very clear that despite the band rivalries, they all ultimately loved and valued each other. It was particularly heartwarming to see them celebrate Andrew Wood.

Temple of the Dog Rock the Garden

by WyldStallynz on 11/10/16Madison Square Garden - New York

25 years of waiting to see this, and it was worth every second. The guys were incredible. I wish that I could have seen more of these shows. I sure hope they consider doing this again. They also did what other performers should do. Keep the ticket prices reasonable. Every seat was $88 plus the damn Ticketmaster fees.

    Temple of the Dog

by smithdebsue on 11/10/16Madison Square Garden - New York

Absolutely Classic ! This band came out of the attic and put on a no-fluff show at MSG. No screens. No pyrotechnics. No gimmicks. Just a rock and roll band playing tunes that haven't been played live in decades. Nice tribute to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath too. The crowd was excellent !
