TEMPLE OF THE DOG IN CONCERT:

Before they were known as a grunge supergroup that featured members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog was just a one-off tribute to fallen singer Andrew Wood that brought together some seriously talented Seattle musicians for a self-titled album in 1991. As Soundgarden and Pearl Jam reached multi-platinum success later in the '90s, Temple of the Dog's scant live performances became the stuff of myth to all but a lucky few. Now, they're back to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their sole album and blow grunge fans away with favorites like "Hunger Strike," "Say Hello 2 Heaven," and "Pushin Forward Back." The heavy riffs from Pearl Jam guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard will be on tap, and Eddie Vedder's meditative baritone is sure to take fans on a journey with each evocative trill. But things get even better when Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell ups the ante with his gritty multi-octave tenor, making for a dynamic vocal duo that tackles a range of material from elegiac ballads to hard-rocking anthems. Ticket buyers that want to experience this classic moment in Seattle's music history up close and personal can't miss Temple of the Dog on this once-in-a-lifetime reunion tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Andrew Wood and Chris Cornell's friendship stretched back to the early '80s, when Wood's band Malfunkshun would frequently play with Cornell's Soundgarden. Wood later formed Mother Love Bone with Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament (later of Pearl Jam fame), but sadly died of an overdose a few months before their 1990 debut was released. Cornell - Wood's roommate at the time - decided to work through his grief by bringing together a who's-who of Seattle musicians: Gossard, Ament, and Cornell were joined by Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron, plus newcomers Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready. Temple of the Dog poured their emotions into a self-titled album that was released in 1991, though few outside Seattle took notice. The members of TOTD moved on a few months later: Cornell and Cameron returned to Soundgarden and released Badmotorfinger, while Vedder, Ament, McCready, and Gossard formed Pearl Jam and released their debut album Ten. When both of those albums became hugely successful staples of grunge music's rise, A&M Records re-released Temple of the Dog's sole LP in 1992 and promoted the single "Hunger Strike," which reached the top ten of the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The side project achieved cult status while Soundgarden and Pearl Jam grew into two of the most influential bands of the '90s. In addition to playing in Soundgarden, drummer Matt Cameron joined Pearl Jam in 1998, making unofficial Temple of the Dog reunions possible when Cornell popped up at performances in 2003, 2009, 2011, and 2014. Fans eager for an official reunion got their wish when the band announced a full-scale tour for the 25th anniversary of their self-titled album. Lovers of the Seattle sound are sure to jump on this second chance to see these seasoned rockers across North America.

Temple of the Dog – keep on touring!

by Spanishwife on 11/17/16The Forum - Inglewood

Twenty-five years in the making, this was a night never to be forgotten. Having travelled halfway around the world to be here, I was hoping it would live up to my expectations, and it really did. From the moment the band stepped on stage, they all gave 110% and really made the crowd part of the performance. As we were sitting behind the stage, I was concerned I would miss out but Chris regularly walked around the back of the stage to wave up and acknowledge our support. It felt like the band were jamming as they would a quarter of a century ago – remembering their old friend Andrew Wood and covering tracks they all love. I feel very privileged to have been a part of this historic tour and only wish I could have attended more concerts.

A Rock N Roll Spiritual Experience!

by TedEMoFo on 11/17/16The Forum - Inglewood

Waiting 25 years for a band to play live is a long time. The ticketmaster review form has a section that says Bottom line. The bottom line is of course I would recommend this show to a friend, but its never going to happen again. After 25 years Temple of the Dog only played 6 live shows. Chris Cornell sounded amazing. The band has had 25 years of becoming master musicians and proved their mastery at the LA Forum. Say Hello To Heaven, Hunger Strike, Call me a dog, every song they played was literally like singing in a musical temple. IT was sonic perfection. Even the cover songs Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Bowie, Syd Barrett, Jimi Hendrix, The Cure! I couldnt believe I heard them play Fascination St!

Saw Temple of the Dog at Lollapalooza back in the day in the now torn down Irvine Meadows. Loved them. Today, they even sounded better.

The band was tight beyond measure, even for PJ standards, and Chris' voice was on point, per usual.

If you saw them...you're a lucky dog!

by AngrySoviet on 11/17/16The Forum - Inglewood

and I am as I did get to see them! They were so good, very tight musicianship and of course Chris can pretty much sing anything which he did on songs from not only ToTD and Mother Love Bone, but Bowie, Jimi, Sabbath and the Zep! It was a great night of rock and roll music! If you missed them, maybe you'll get a change next time at the 50th anniversary reunion tour!

    Where is the backup

by Eddystrike on 11/17/16The Forum - Inglewood

The only thing not amazing about this show, is the lack of Eddy Vedder. Everything else was a riot.

    Amazing show!

by StratocasterLover on 11/16/16Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

It was essentially Pearl Jam with Chris Cornell instead of Eddie Vedder. However, there weren't any Pearl Jam or Soundgarden songs performed - which is great! Instead, they played everything off the Temple of the Dog album, plus quite a few Mother Love Bone songs. Additionally, there were plenty of cover songs played (David Bowie, The Cure, Free, Harry Nilson, etc.). I would say the best covers were Led Zeppelin's "Achille's Last Stand" and Black Sabbath's "War Pigs". They really knocked those out of the park! I think anyone would have appreciated Temple of the Dog's performance. However, this was more of a gift to the fans who listened to that album over and over way back in the early 90's. I'm grateful to have witnessed this performance.

Didn't see that one coming - Glad I went

by Jalix on 11/15/16Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

PearlGarden = Musically Outstanding. Sounded really good. Thoroughly enjoyable the whole way through. All the cover song choices worked well and left me wanting more. Playing the entire album was a bonus I had not expected. Now I've seen Cornell in just about every band he's been in. His vocal chops are a true gift. Fantastic Negrito (The opener) was fun to watch as well. Talented voice.

    This was really something special

by meaculpa20v on 11/15/16Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

What can I say? I got to see Temple of the Dog. A wildly influential band that has never really toured. It felt like a once in a lifetime event. Since they were only playing about a total of a dozen shows they didn't have any elaborate stage designs, which made the whole show feel much more intimate. Just some rock with some really talented and skilled performers. I loved that. Chris was his usual charismatic self and engaged the audience well. I enjoyed hearing about his accounts of those days back in the Seattle scene. What he could remember, at least, haha. They played their entire album, which is only ten songs. They added to their set a large variety of covers from bands like the Cure, Lead Belly, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and more. They rocked!!

Amazing! We flew from Illinois just to see this show, it was everything we wanted and more. I can't tell you how awesome it was to see Stone, Jeff, Mike, Matt and Chris preform together. The vibe in the whole place was so great, I loved every minute of it. I didn't want it to end.
