About

TAVARES IN CONCERT:

From their R&B beginnings to their disco heyday, the iconic soul siblings of Tavares have always been known for their party-starting grooves and infectious on-stage energy. Continuing to perform with four of the original five Tavares brothers, the group is as entertaining as ever, thrilling fans with their retro stagewear, synchronized dance moves, and feel-good jams. From the romantic balladry of "A Penny for Your Thoughts" to the disco funk of "Don't Take Away the Music", Tavares always treats fans to a dynamic, nostalgic, and booty-shaking live show on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Tavares brothers were born in Rhode Island to parents of Cape Verdean descent, and they began performing together in 1959 under the name Chubby and the Turnpikes. After signing to Capitol records in the mid-'60s and scoring several regional hits, they changed their name to Tavares and released their 1973 single "Check It Out". The track was the first in a long string of hits that included chart-toppers like "She's Gone" (1974), "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), and "Whodunit"(1977). In addition to touring with acts like the Jackson 5 and KC and the Sunshine Band, Tavares appeared on the soundtrack to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever -- a gig that earned them a Grammy. They released their final studio album Words and Music in 1983, and by the mid-'90s they had become a trio following the departures of brothers Ralph and Tiny. Now a quartet after reuniting with Tiny, Tavares continues to dazzle on tour with their timeless sound, dapper style, and extensive catalog of hits.

    Great show, lots of surprises.

by cmac923 on 1/2/18NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

This was a great show. In addition to the schedule artists, there were a ton of surprises. Cory Day, the lead singer from Dr Buzzards band did a set. Never got the chance to see her live until that night. Felipe, the Indian in the Village People did his thing, along with the Trampps. Another surprise was Danny Terrio, the coreographer from Saturday Night Fever danced with Donna Pesco, one of the actresses from the movie. And, as a former musician, I was pleasantly surprised by the band Disco Unlimited. They backed up most of the acts for a song or two. We all felt, we got more than our money's worth. Would see the show again in a beartbeat.

    Saturday Night Fever!

by nathanfan23 on 1/2/18NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

A slow start to this show but then was happily transported back to a different era, where boogie shoes & jordache jeans were a wardrobe staple. This show provided hours of great fun! "I haven't stopped dancing yet!"

    A Disco Delight

by peterg725 on 1/2/18NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Let me say,I purchased these tickets strictly for my wife and growing up “heavy metal “ I had no plans on enjoying myself Well , it was a complete joy. The show was over 3 hours, sounded crisp and clear and what I heard from each and every performer was the background of my life right in front of me. I would have purchased tickets to every show if they had more dates. It was the best show I ever saw at Westbury and I hope they bring it back soon.

    Not what I expected

by GiGiGirlBklyn on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I had an excellent time being with my friends but the show was not as I expected it to be. The best part of the show was Disco Unlimited. They were excellent! Would not recommend it to anyone that would not like impersonators.

Saturday Night Summer Fever was great

by Treylew on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I loved it. The band, singers, dancers. The whole show just brought me back to the to the 1970's when disco ruled the world.

    This show is forgettable

by UBLN on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

We have seen these performers many times, they are our favorites however, this show was a total bust. The audio was horrible. These performers deserve better than recorded music. We actually felt sorry for the performers. I would imagine they were not too happy either. The producer should find another career. Why introduce France Joli and not have her sing? Totally pointless. The show was a major disappointment. Did anyone wonder why people were walking out early. And the show ended without as much as a thank you or good night.

    A blast from the past

by Mamalis21 on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

The whole show was pretty great from having the actress perform with the instructor to the great impressionist John Travolta ,to the music and many performances ,to the host from KTU radio, all of it is just one big disco Inferno, brought back many memories, great times

    Tribute & Cover Bands, Seriously?

by JohnfrMassapequaParkNY on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Let me say I love Tavares and the Trammps. They were listed as the main acts, but to get to them we had to endure Donna Summer and Barry White tribute artists, as well as a John Travolta impersonator and a disco cover band. Whoever thought of this needs to go back to the drawing board. I personally do not go to concerts to see tribute or cover bands. I go to local bars for that. It would have been better for to have Tavares and the Trammps do one 45-minute set each (given they're older now) and end it right there. It was too long, too many interruptions, and had bad flow. Then we had to listen to the cover band do Saturday Night Fever. Really? Are we in high school in 1975? Also no one, or at least me, wants to hear the producers come out and take bows. Overall we won't be back to another show if it is like this.

    Brought back memories!

by CityWoman on 6/7/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Show brought me right back to 1977 to my disco days. The only down part was someone did not know how to operate the acoustics (microphone issues), and the show was a bit too long. Also had an abrupt ending which was strange. Saw people leaving the audience earlier than expected.

    Tavares

by rd1man on 2/9/15Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic City

These guys put on one hell of a show. Sounded great, performed beautifully, still have the great showmanship for a group of their era. Played almost all of their original hits. Show was about 75 mins long. You will not be disappointed with this show. We would go back to see them again if they return to AC.
