It was thrilling to have the words on the pages brought to life. Not a whole lot to say other than fantastic and wonderful. Kind od interesting to think we possibly have that many "woke" people here in Atlanta. LOL
I loved this! It took Coates awesome poetic writing and brought it to a 3D realm. It also combined the beautiful elements of our culture, the singing, the jazz instrumentsls, the imagery all together to bring this vision to life. Absolutely awesome. The voice characters were awesome. Everything was awesome.
Police brutality continues to shape not only the souls of Black and Brown people but the entire fabric of this country and the lenses of the world are upon us! We will rise up!
We need more voices like this is our cultural events in Atlanta. EVERYone should see this. Incredible!!
Shortly after it came out, I read the book and added it to my all-time favorite list. I hesitated on attending this. The deciding factor was Jason Moran’s music. At the performance, I was in awe from the initial reading. The end of almost every reading was greeted with rousing applause. Throughout the performance, I could hear people signaling agreement with the powerful words. I wish I could have come away and urged more people here to catch a later performance but I could only encourage a few Jersey folks to venture to Harlem.
A once in a lifetime experience. Awesome in every sense of the word.
Everything I was hoping for and more! What a brilliant conversation between two incredible gentlemen. It was truly an honor to witness. I look forward to diving into Mr. Coates' latest publication AND everything that follows it!
Seeing Ta-Nehisi Coates in Boise, ID was amazing. With the questions and conversation coming from Mitchell S Jackson; we heard some needed words. The only sorrow stemming from the situations that brought on those words. I would see either of these men again. And the introduction by Dr Tromp was fantastic. A fantastic evening.
This was a great event! The conversation was very engaging. Ta-Nehisi and Nikole were brilliant and it was an amazing conversation to witness.
When two great minds come together it can't be anything but epic. The conversation could have gone on forever. The conversation was raw, intelligent, and much needed. So glad I attended.
Unfortunate that there were so many empty/unsold seats. The Apollo needs to figure out how to expand its reach so that more people can experience a special night like this.
An evening well-spent! Coates and Jones had fantastic chemistry and spoke about challenging topics in a profound yet unpretentious way. Can’t wait to read his new book.
The interview was informative and interesting. I learned a lot as Coates went through the process of his research to write this book. And each of us ticket holders got a copy of his new book!
The on-stage chemistry was phenominal! They were engaging, informative, and hilarious. Their respective research and presentation of facts was above and beyond! It was a REAL pleasure to be in their presence. Additionally, the inclusion of Mr. Coates' new novel made the ticket price even MORE reasonable. THANK YOU!

Really enjoyed the venue, the debt and breadth of the conversation between Ta-Nehisi and the amazing Oprah Winfrey! The complimentary book was the icing on the cake! Can’t wait to read it😊
Great event. It was made better by Oprah who led the conversation. Coates was spectacular and a pleasure to listen to.
Ta-Nahisi was authentic, endearing and so personable when speaking about his process and the work that went into The Water Dancer. Him being interviewed by Oprah was beyond my expectations (it was announced the morning of). The Apollo is known for its intimate space, its large but you felt like you were there while they had a close conversation with one another you just happened to stumble into. The staff at the Apollo are always wonderful and even with a packed house they managed to keep the flow and distribution of the book, post event, well organized.
Oprah & Ta-Nehisi we’re phenomenal this event reminded me why I love reading sooo much. Thank You Apollo Theater!!!
