TALIB KWELI IN CONCERT:
When it comes to socially conscious hip hop, Talib Kweli is in a class all by himself. Combining a distinctly stylish delivery, a gift for intricate rhymes, and a passionate political message, his expertly produced tracks are just as likely to inspire debate as they are dancing. Whether he's collaborating with DJ Hi-Tek or rolling solo, Kweli always delivers a top-notch performance -- which is precisely why fans are so fired up about his 2014 Black Star reunion dates with longtime collaborator Mos Def.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Brooklyn-born rapper Talib Kweli Greene initially broke into the rap game through the Beat Junkies' Lyricist Lounge mixtape project. His subsequent work in Cincinnati with the group Mood resulted in a collaboration with producer Hi-Tek, with whom he has enjoyed a career-spanning creative partnership. While these projects made clear his prodigious talent, it wasn't until he linked up with Mos Def as Black Star that he really achieved widespread success. The critical and commercial success of their debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star played a major role in the record industry's growing recognition of underground hip-hop as a serious force, becoming a genre classic in the process. With six solo records now under his belt and a Black Star reunion hitting venues in 2014, the sky is the limit.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Never seen Kweli live before, but I'll never forget it. Went out and bought Gutter Rainbows after it, and it's the real deal! Please go support our indie artists!"
"This bought back memories of being a teenager and jamming to REAL MUSIC. It was worth getting home late. Great show. Lots of energy."
"Absolutely amazing! These guys played their hearts out and rocked the place."
I danced till I couldn't dance anymore. Would love to have Kiss n Grind back soon. I really enjoyed myself.
I am 50+ and I treated my niece who is half my age and we literally danced all night! The music was incredible and both DJs were approachable and fed the crowd all night so intuitively. Definitely worth every dime!
Night to hear all the great tunes from the past, spun by two amazing artist / DJ's.
One of favorite MCs is now one of my favorite DJs!
Horrible I will never ever attend a talib concert again
Literally the worst concert experience ever. The venue opened an hour late. The doormen were rude to our guests. The sound engineers didn't show up. And Talib didn't show up until just before 3am. On a weeknight. Never again BB Kings.
Reef the Lost Cauze was amazing. K Valentine was good. Styles P was Dope Talib Kweli tour it down. Great night.
The best hip hop show that I've seen in a long time. It's good to see real hip hop in Los Angles.
Amazing show! Talib, Styles P, and K.Valentine all performed well. Talib even brought out Treach, Anderson Pak, and Nicole Is!!! Other than the drink prices nothing to complain about with the show itself. Awesome performances all around!
Styles P from the Lox, Trench from naughty by nature, k Valentine and Talib Kweli all hit the stage. Talib, the headliner was maybe the most disappointing. He only did a handful of songs. Show started at 8:40 , but doors opened at 7pm. Drove an hour to see. Dj started show with mixing for 25 minutes, I could go to any night club for that. K Valentine was good. Styles P was great, He jumped into the crowd. He really was partying with us. Would go to his show, but Talib Kweli did not deliver the goods. As a fan I would still buy his album, but never again drive an hour in traffic on a Thursday for him to be on stage for maybe 45 minutes.
Another awesome VS party in the books. Always a great time! The 90's VS Now theme was great - music was dope!! DJs killed it! First time at Irving Plaza, spacious venue for dancing.
Talib kweli was a lyrical beast! The place had ample space and bartenders were friendly, and made Good drinks! Fat Tony & k Valentine were good. Great time and I plan to see Raekwon on the 30th!
I'm going to be honest and say that I only went to see the great, incredible, legendary Immortal Technique. It was worth it. He rocked the crowd and put on an intense performance. His crew was really talented as well; I heard some ill rhymes that night.
Great show!! Good line up of artists from the opening acts to the main attractions. Had fun the whole time, and was entertained throughout the night. Overall, the event was well organized, and flowed well from beginning to end.
Kweli is always an amazing performer seen him several times and it is always absolutely worth it. The openers were pretty damn impressive too. These lyricists have a great message too. Always about equality and respect to all races and genders.
Immortal Technique spoke truth to power; while spitting crazy rhymes. Kweli was fire! Definitely 18.50 well spent. Sorry to all the suckers that missed out
I go to every tech show when he's in town. Great venue drinks are cheap. I love how technique talks in between songs. I always liked that.
Immortal Technique killed it at the masquerade, along with everyone else in the entourage
Immortal Technique and Talib Kweli performed all of the favorites. You will not be disappointed. True hip-hop lives.
The was a great show, but with a 7 o'clock start the show was over around twelve. I would have rather have had the option to sit down.
