About

TALIB KWELI IN CONCERT:

When it comes to socially conscious hip hop, Talib Kweli is in a class all by himself. Combining a distinctly stylish delivery, a gift for intricate rhymes, and a passionate political message, his expertly produced tracks are just as likely to inspire debate as they are dancing. Whether he's collaborating with DJ Hi-Tek or rolling solo, Kweli always delivers a top-notch performance -- which is precisely why fans are so fired up about his 2014 Black Star reunion dates with longtime collaborator Mos Def.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Brooklyn-born rapper Talib Kweli Greene initially broke into the rap game through the Beat Junkies' Lyricist Lounge mixtape project. His subsequent work in Cincinnati with the group Mood resulted in a collaboration with producer Hi-Tek, with whom he has enjoyed a career-spanning creative partnership. While these projects made clear his prodigious talent, it wasn't until he linked up with Mos Def as Black Star that he really achieved widespread success. The critical and commercial success of their debut album Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star played a major role in the record industry's growing recognition of underground hip-hop as a serious force, becoming a genre classic in the process. With six solo records now under his belt and a Black Star reunion hitting venues in 2014, the sky is the limit.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Never seen Kweli live before, but I'll never forget it. Went out and bought Gutter Rainbows after it, and it's the real deal! Please go support our indie artists!"

"This bought back memories of being a teenager and jamming to REAL MUSIC. It was worth getting home late. Great show. Lots of energy."

"Absolutely amazing! These guys played their hearts out and rocked the place."

The lands of kings set the tone, and Talib and Hi-TEK didn't let me down. The flow was so sick, best I've ever seen live.

Kweli Killed it! Girl Talk was Aight...

by StephenFromIowa on 5/5/10U of I Main Lounge - Iowa City

Talib Kweli is one of my favorite rappers of all time, and he proved why on Tuesday when he was absolutely terrific in Iowa City. He blended classics and new hits to make a great show through and through. Girl Talk was a party, not a concert. He's not really all that necessary for his live show. Don't get me wrong, his music is great. It's just that I don't really find it necessary to have someone stand on the stage and pump up the crowd to that music. People loved his music, but the show itself was basically a party at a club with the actual DJ there in person.

This was my first hip-hop show and i loved every minute of it, the opening artists were extremely talented. There was a painter and break dancers for the first artist. When Talib took the stage everything hit the floor and the place was jumpin.

Show was excellent - just started too late!!

by camelqueen on 8/26/09The Blue Note - Columbia

I thought all the performers were excellent. Much better than I actually was expecting. I was just dissapointed that it started so much later than scheduled. Made for a longer night than it should have been. Which made alot of people leave early, so therefore the crowd was not what it should have been. I might be bias...but I think it should have been scheduled in St. Louis at the Pageant (or somewhere similar). I know the crowd would have been much larger and more hype than Columbia!!

    Awesome Lineup!

by FrozenToews on 8/25/09The Blue Note - Columbia

What a concert! The show kicked off with Supernatural, a well proclaimed freestyle artist, interacting with the audience and spitting great lines. Following him was Slum Village, reminiscent of early 90's hip-hop, they put together a great duo that really got the crowd excited. The 1st of 2 main events hit the stage, with Slaughterhouse coming out with a boatload of energy and excitement, they played some old and new favorites. Then, to everyones approval, Talib and Hi-Tek, hit the stage. Both were excited to be there and put on a great show. This concert is not just about Talib, but all of the great acts that come before him.

    Come back Talib!!!

by GOROCKETS on 7/16/09Meridian - Houston

It was a badass concert!! Small venue... but that just made everything better. Not a bad seat in the house. The performer right before Talib came out was awesome. Sunni Patterson, while unknown to me before, definitely got my respect that night.
