  • Outstanding as always

by DavidL on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Taj Mahal is a national treasure. I’ve seen him now in every decade since the 80s and he still gives a great show.

  • Good performances; horrible sound.

by DanielC on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 2 out of 5

We got tickets months before the show- 5th row center ‘cause Taj Mahal has been on my “must see live” list for more than a few decades. And Los Lobos on the same bill… well, this was a no-brainer "gotta see"show. I hadn’t been to the Uptown in Kansas City since the late ’80’s and was prepared for the seating to be a challenge but the music would more than make up for that shortcoming. Boy, we’re we surprised… From the very first song from the North Mississippi Allstars ( the “warm up"band!!) the extreme distortion coming from the bass out of the right bank of speakers made the otherwise fantastic music UNBEARABLE. It was so distorted that it totally took over the great vocals and guitar playing from Luther Dickinson. The only time we could hear him was when there was NO bass. After the 30-40 minute set we were ready to leave but, figuring maybe the house sound guys set the mix for the main acts, thought we’d stick around. What a major disappointment; same thing for Taj Mahal AND Los Lobos. We moved around to different seats to see whether the mix sounded better elsewhere in the room, but no. I won’t say that my $200 was wasted because both acts were, for me, once in a lifetime opportunity. But unless something is done AND PUBLICIZED about the sound system at the Uptown I won’t be returning; which is a shame because KC needs more venues this size to host great national acts.

  • Fantastic

by Roggar on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Taj gave us a fantastic taste of his artistry. A true legend.

  • Taj still has “it”! And Los Lobos/NMAS were amazing

by Lindalilly on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 5 out of 5

Taj Majal is a treasure, see him while you can because he is getting up there in age but he and his band put on a very entertaining set before Los Lobos (who took advantage of the amazing sound @The Uptown Theater). Los Lobos played one of the top shows that I’ve seen from them, after the 6 or so times that I’ve heard them play live, over the years. They are roots rock, blues and traditional Mexican music MASTERS. Excellent set by them and the opener North Mississippi All-Stars were just great!

  • Bummer

by Kirbsaxe on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 1 out of 5

The noise level from all performances made it miserable. Left early. Total waste of time and $$$

  • Good… a tad disappointed

by Janeg on 9/9/23Uptown Theater - Kansas CityRating: 3 out of 5

He didn’t sing any songs from his last album- Still good

  • Taj Mahal Quartet was fantastic

by Yahbooboo on 9/26/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say, it's Taj, he is amazing. The band is amazing. Banjo, steel guitar, regular guitar, Taj played some keyboards too. This show had some world music but was heavy on the blues. A nice selection of songs. The music was great. Love the Cabot, small enough that almost all the seats a great seats. Just a heads up no opening band and he starts on time.

  • The Magnificent Taj

  • Taj is a national treasure. Still going strong.

by Nanita on 9/25/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Cabot Theater is a wonderful, historic venue for music. It's small enough that all seats are good. Taj Mahal is still going strong. Played all his guitars and banjos beautifully. His quartet is strong. All seasoned pros.

  • Man oh man - what a treat -

by Big Baby on 9/25/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Man oh man - what a treat - Read about the man - listened to some of his stuff and been wanting to see him - that happened last night at The Cabot - PHENOMINAL - The man is 80.. EIGHTY!!! His voice is, I don't have an adjective to accurately describe it - at times it was gravely - silky - growly - bluesy - clear - high pitched - fantastic - and his inflection on a single word for emphasis - killer - repeating a word or lyric ala Van Morrison or John Lee Hooker - damn - moving on to the instruments - he played at least 4 different guitars - maybe 5 - a banjo - which he got the blues out of in the most fantastic way - a wow - he played keys too - and then a ukulele - he took us to the Islands - a mix of Blues - Roots - a touch of Africa and his Island influence from his time in Hawaii for sure - he's a treasure - Highlights for me were Stagger Lee - Fishin Blues (the opener) - Queen Bee (an ode to TLMJ haha) - Corinna/Corrine - Take a Giant Step (Love love love that song) - Everybody is Somebody, Nobody is Nobody - FANTASTIC SHOW - Fun Fact - Taj took his stage name - Taj Mahal after having recurring dreams of Mahatma Gandhi - coolest guy

  • Taj Mahal / Larcom Theater

by Lish on 9/25/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

  • GREAT MUSIC, Dinner service sucks

by Drew on 3/15/22The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura HillsRating: 3 out of 5

Taj Mahal is ALWAYS fabulous. He ROCKED the joint. Dinner service was pretty hideous. Entree served cold, salad came 40 minutes after the entree. WAYYYY TOO many seats at the dining tables. When you but seats right next to each other NO ONE has any elbow room. VERY uncomfortable dinner. Fantastic music.

  • Taj Mahal

by JayZ on 8/25/21Blue Note Napa at Charles Krug Winery - St. HelenaRating: 4 out of 5

Overall, fantastic. The artist was great, the venue beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful, beverage selection wonderful, felt safe with current situation, the only reason I gave four stars was a huge disappointment in the food. Decent selection, but terrible quality and/or portions. Chips were stale and other choices had small portions. I don't mind paying at events a bit more as expected but would expect better quality.
