Syracuse University Men's Basketball History

Syracuse fielded its first basketball team in 1898, and the team achieved its first winning record three years later when John A.R. Scott started coaching the squad. The Orange played independent of a conference for decades, but when the Big East Conference coalesced in 1979, Syracuse came on board as a founding member. The team won 10 regular-season Big East titles until it joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013.

From 1976 to 2023, the program was coached by Jim Boeheim. During his tenure in the ’80s, Syracuse boasted a crop of phenoms, including Rony Seikaly, Pearl Washington, Sherman Douglas and Derrick Coleman. In 2002, future NBA star Carmelo Anthony played his freshman year at Syracuse before leaving for the NBA draft. The Orange won the NCAA Championship with Anthony in 2003. Syracuse has appeared in the NCAA Final Four six total times and overall has made the NCAA Tournament an impressive 41 times.

Syracuse's biggest rival is the Georgetown Hoyas, a team they’ve been squaring off against since the 1930s. Syracuse also has rivalries with the UConn Huskies, as well as a newer rivalry with the Duke Blue Devils.

Leave very early to find your parking lot

by Keith on 2/24/26JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

I only gave these 3 stars because the parking lots are a disaster. The venue for the game was great but parking sucks. There are lots all over the campus. We bought a parking pass and never found our lot. We tried using GPS and still never found. It was getting close to game time so we found a general parking garage and paid an additional 40 dollars to park. Will definitely go for general parking lot in the future.

Very Expensive, skip parking pass option for Syracuse dome

by Donkey man on 2/24/26JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

Great environment and venue but $1000 for a family of four to sit 30 rows back off of center court is insane. The product Syracuse has out there is embarrassing. Ticket prices are too expensive. I purchased a parking pass thru Ticketmaster and it had us 1.5 miles away from the dome. We would’ve missed the first half had we parked there.

    Good seats, lots of traffic

by Section 106 on 2/24/26JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

Seats and view are excellent but if you are on or close to the aisle it is a super highway of traffic. Constant movement of people getting to the concessions get in the way of the game big time.

    Fire

Cuse was trash but Dome is great. I recommend a trip to a game.

    Simple and easy

by Davon Sr on 12/14/25JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

Took my son to a game like we usually try to do often. I purchased the tickets and downloaded them to my Apple wallet, then we were in the game. Ticketmaster and the JMA wireless dome along with the Syracuse app made things a breeze.

    Not a great setup

by JB on 10/28/25KeyBank Center - Buffalo

Not a great setup for two premier men’s college basketball teams in NY. Have the arena was dead. No shop open, more then half of concessions were closed and only had basic grab and go things like hot dog or popcorn. Will not return for another event like this.

    Oh well

by Group of guys on 2/11/25JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

We our group has been coming down to Syracuse for the past 10 years to watch a football and/or a basketball game. Due to the current political situation our group has decided to boycott further travel to the USA. Sorry.

    Great Game Experience-Parking Not Great

by AB on 2/8/25JMA Wireless Dome - Syracuse

Once inside the arena the experience was great. Easy entry due to the electronic download of our tickets to our phone through the Ticketmaster app. However, parking for the event was extremely confusing. The venue sent a few emails prior to that were misleading. Directions through Waze and Apple maps did not get us to the locations mentioned in the venue emails; which were not from Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster experience was great but hopefully next time the venue can send better parking directions.
