Syracuse University Men's Basketball History
Syracuse fielded its first basketball team in 1900, and the team achieved its first winning record three years later when John A.R. Scott started coaching the squad. The Orange played independent of a conference for decades, but when the Big East Conference coalesced in 1979, Syracuse came on board as a founding member. The team won 10 regular-season Big East titles until it joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2013.
From 1976 to 2023, the program was coached by Jim Boeheim. During his tenure In the '80s, Syracuse boasted a crop of phenoms, including Rony Seikaly, Pearl Washington, Sherman Douglas, and Derrick Coleman. In 2002, future NBA star Carmelo Anthony played his freshman year at Syracuse before leaving for the NBA draft. The Orange won the NCAA Championship with Anthony in 2003. Syracuse has appeared in the NCAA Final Four five additional times and overall has made the NCAA Tournament an impressive 41 times.
Syracuse's biggest rival is the Georgetown Hoyas, a team they’ve been squaring off against since the 1930. Syracuse also has rivalries with the UConn Huskies, as well as a newer rivalry with Duke.

A great chance to see some fun basketball in a different venue; seating was a bit tight but venue was clean and organized nicely. Steps were steep but railings were appreciated (looking at you bills stadium ahem "HIGHMARK"...) and staff seemed helpful.
Good opening evening to introduce Syracuse University basketball in Rochester. Parking was triple what it should have been. Front row seats were great. The players interacted well. I d go again. Souvenir cup from Wegmans lost it printing in liquid.
Had a great time. App works great and easy transition to apple wallet. I wish the tickets indicated what type of seat we were sitting in when shopping for the tickets. I ended up purchasing tickets for an aluminum bench seat. I have a bad back and it would have been nice to know ahead of time so I could have brought a cushion. By the end of the game I was in quite some pain. But the process for getting tickets was smooth.
Had a very good time at this game. Syracuse University does a good job in dressing the dome for a basketball game. Good atmosphere.
Great game! Awesome seats! It would be nice if the seats what a little more space, but I can’t complain about our amazing experience!
Always enjoy going to a Syracuse Orange mens basketball game. Seating is good. Lighting is very good. The team tries hard and generally wins.
The staff at the dome were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Great tiem by all.
This is a awesome venue. People were friendly and people were helpful. Only thing I didn’t care for is .. we paid for court side seats but we couldn’t stand up in the court side area. I mean we paid for the seats and they paid for their seats. It shouldn’t matter if I stand up. Getting told to sit down just kinda ruined my day.
Seating right behind crew, at courtside and visitor bench slightly obscured due to seating height. But overall good seating.
The seats were on 1 at level but view of overhead screen was blocked by the overhang from second level.
Ticketmaster made this experience very easy and paperless . Downloaded my tickets in my wallet on my iPhone . Simple as 1,2,3
Ordering process was simple. Scanning in tickets at the gates was quick and easy. Overall a great game and experience!
Syracuse lost but what a great time. It was definitely an event. not just a game.
The Carrier Dome is an iconic locale for a game. The seats were only about $10 each more than the upper level. They offered cushions and a great midcourt vantage point. The view was spectacular, unfortunately The Orange were not.
My autistic son always has fun cheering on the Orangemen at their. games whether it is an exhibition or a playoff. They started off slow and a bit off but ended up coming into it and winning. Son was disappointed that the marching band was not there but was definitely happy to see the cheerleaders, dancers and Otto. Always a fun time
The actual event inside the Dome was great: energetic, exciting, helpful ushers, good concessions, etc. However, OUTSIDE the Dome was a nightmare - unless there is something the public is not aware of, the Syracuse traffic police did a poor job of routing traffic in and out of the Dome area and parking lots and garages... streets were mysteriously blocked, but then traffic personnel would randomly allow some vehicles to use them. Ramps to the interstate were blocked, and while traffic was backed up and congested, police vehicles were parked under the bridges... with personnel inside them and vehicles waited and waited to move. Streetlights are ridiculous - changing randomly and causing even more problems - are there sensors? BTW - this happens every time we attend an evening Dome event. The Syracuse traffic police need to have a meeting to work this out: distribute personnel more efficiently - directing traffic, open all the "arteries" to allow more movement, put all streetlights on flashing and direct traffic to allow continuous flow, work with other SU officials to make satellite parking lots/shuttle services much more attractive - lower prices, etc. (the actual event ended just before 9 PM; the Dome is within sight of I-81 and it took 45 minutes to drive from the Dome to the highway!)
Seats were great, game was exciting, parking great EXCEPT when it was time to reconnect with bus to parking didn't know where to go..different from drop off. Will go again!!!
I don’t like that I am unable to sell tickets after someone else may have transferred them to me.
Great game, good seat location, but way too cramped. Felt like a sardine in a can.
