    Sorry it's closing!!

by JW on 10/27/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

I thoroughly enjoyed this play -- great story, solid acting, funny and moving -- and I only wish I'd seen it sooner so I could recommend it to friends in time for them to get tickets before it closed!

    Very satisfactory!

by Abu on 10/22/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

The stage, in that wonderful home-feeling Minetta Lane theatre, almost magic. So much said in a small space. And the whole plays stays inside that one setting. The acting, superb. The text, tight, economical, effective. But, of course, it was mostly the ideas that the play conveys: the emotions and ideologies, the warnings, the promises. Congratulations to author, director and cast.

    Well written and executed

by JJK13 on 10/20/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Ignore the NY Times review which was a clear demonstration of hubris. The show was extremely well written and delivered. It was very clear from the first scene that depression would be the dark theme for the evening. With only four characters, one would anticipate a limited array of directions. Yet, the complexity of the characters as portrayed and the play as written, teased us with several different potential directions. Even during the show's dark moments, and there were several, the interspersion of well-executed comedy lightened the mood and kept the audience engaged. This is a fantastic play that sticks with you. Highly recommended. Be prepared to spend some time afterward talking through it with your fellow theatre goer.

    A Wonderful Play

by Brooklyn Theatergoer on 10/20/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Swing State is a lovely play about a woman in the throes of grief who is trying to help a young friend struggling to put his life back together. The acting is superb, and the play is beautifully written. I am baffled and annoyed by the condescending reviews, which imply that there's something boring and old-fashioned about a thoughtful, well-constructed drama with realistic dialogue. On the contrary: I was moved and found myself thinking about the characters and ideas long after it was over. Go see it!

Brilliant portrayal of hope overcoming despair

by Anastasia on 10/19/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

Swing State encompasses the swing of emotions, fear and ultimately of community experienced during the pandemic. From the set design, sound and direction, the production allows the actors to shine. Gilman’s narrative distills the chaos of the uncertainty that surrounded the entire world. Brilliant!

It was so wonderful to see four terrific actors at the top of their game. 105 minutes went by like 20 minutes. Just go!

    A worthwhile, absorbing evening.

by Arthur on 10/14/23Minetta Lane Theatre - New York

It is amazing how the author created a fascinating tale out of a fairly mundane set of circumstances. It was well acted, the set was meticulous and slot happened in one single act. Sitting front row center in a compact theater helped our appreciation. Highly recommended evening of live theater.
