About

SWEET AND TENDER HOOLIGANS IN CONCERT:

As the "ultimate tribute to Morrissey and the Smiths," LA-based Sweet and Tender Hooligans have been paying homage to the legendary British indie band for more than two decades with their finely crafted tribute show. Performing to sold-out crowds throughout the US and UK, frontman Jose Maldonado channels Morrissey so convincingly that Moz himself has even jokingly taken the stage with the opening line "Hello, we are the Sweet and Tender Hooligans." From their era-perfect style to Maldonado's Morrissey-inspired coif, the band never fails to satisfy even the most rigorous Smiths purists, leaving fans to wonder "How Soon Is Now" in regards to their 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Los Angeles in 1992, Jose Maldonado and the Sweet and Tender Hooligans began playing Smiths covers as an answer to the iconic band's 1987 dissolution, a highly publicized event that occurred at the height of their success. As regional recognition gave way to shows around the country, the band made their pilgrimage to the UK, performing to sold-out crowds and attracting the attention of the BBC. Named the "Best Cover Band in Los Angeles" by the LA Weekly, the Sweet and Tender Hooligans continue pay homage to Morrissey and company with more shows in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Jose Maldonado along with the entire band are amazing. If you are a Morrissey or Smiths fan, they are a MUST SEE!"

"Just like Morrissey, Jose gets better with age. This band gives 110% in each performance and continue to carry a torch as the 'ultimate tribute to Morrissey and The Smiths.'"

"This is absolutely the best cover band I have ever seen. The lead singer dances and sings just like Morrissey. He takes off his shirt just like Moz, dances with the microphone, and people rush the stage to hug him."

Cured like a Sweet & Tender Hooligan in a Happy Haus

    by Richard Anthony on 8/1/23

Jose “The Mexican Morrissey” and the rest of the Sweet & Tender Hooligans ALWAYS put on a great show. They played a few deep cuts tonight too, which as a huge Smiths fan I really appreciate. I also really enjoyed Happy Haus (Siouxsie & the Banshees) and The Cured (The Cure) too ! The guitarist for The Cured was AWESOME. Two thumbs WAY up ! There’s a light that never goes out.

    Love you guys, but....

I didn't really feel this performance like past ones. Mainly did like the playlist. Low energy from the band members. And a very lackluster ending.

Love you guys, but didn't like the playlist. Not enough energy, especially the lead guitar player. Plus you guys need to work on a better ending, very lackluster.

    by Michelle on 8/1/23

I heard about Sweet and Tender Hooligans in 2019 and have been wanting to see them ever since. I took my son with me who is also a Smiths/Morrissey fan and we had a blast! The show was awesome, we didn't want it to end!

    Awesome Show Experience

by Mel Gee on 5/26/23House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

The talent was great! Ive never been disappointed with seeing a show at HOB ever. The only thing I hate is after every show, the floor is disgusting! Everyone's spilled drinks just cover the entire floor & it smells pretty gross. There shouls be trash cans on the floor, so more people use them.

    Excellent Show!!!

by BJ on 5/22/23House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

They were awesome and sounded great! The only thing I was disappointed with was that they didn't play "What Difference Does It Make." Also, I didn't get the name of the bus that hit me the night of the concert. I woke up with a massive headache that felt like an anvil crushed my head. Too many Coors Lights!!!!

    Sweet and Tender Hooligans

by Bob on 10/17/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

Tickets showed seat numbers. Was very disappointed once we got in to find that it was standing only. Show started an hour late with another band playing first so didn’t see the titled band until almost 2 hours later. If knew this would have come two hours later so as not to have stood up for 4 hours. Sweet and Tender Hooligans was the only good thing about the night.

Sweet and tender Hooligans at Terragram

by Mike on 10/17/22Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

Sharp/Shock tore it up as the opener. Jose M and the band were en fuego. It was a party like atmosphere. Venue was great. Food and drinks were reasonably priced and the night had a warm and friendly vibe. Parking was a bit challenging but recommend you park up off Wilshire at PIH hospital ($15).

    Great show 🎵🎶🍺🍻

by Mr. Leo on 8/13/22The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

It was a great evening. They had the crowd singing and dancing. The sun had just set in OC and there was nothing but great vibes. Their Ama Matters rendition in Spanish was awesome. The other bands did great performances too. The Pacific Amphitheater is a great venue. Definitely coming back to other shows and will see these bands again!

    Fantastic concert

by Nancy O on 8/13/22The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Jose is a fantastic Morrissey! I saw The Smiths in the 80s, and I enjoy SATH just as much! Of course, nobody is as good as Johnny Marr, but the band is great, too. The crowd was very happy & most people knew a lot of the songs which made the experience even more fun!

I’ve seen Sweet and Tender Hooligans several times. They always put on a great show. And the venue was great, except the parking was terrible.

    Awesome

by Richard Anthony on 8/10/22The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

The Sweet and Tender Hooligans aren’t just the best Smiths/Morrissey tribute band, they’re the BEST of all tribute bands. Having seen Moz and The Smiths live several times, I can attest that if you close your eyes at a STH show, you will believe you’re hearing the real deal (& Jose Maldonado, the Mexican Morrissey, puts on a better show).
