Enjoyed. Very nice production. Everyone did a great job. Really enjoyed Ms Lovetts performance
Great interpretation. GREAT singing all around. Really, a knockout production. Nuance, creative staging. Whenever things went wrong (doors not opening, thrown items missed) the cast recovered well. Knockout music. Two cons: During the vacation fantasy scene with Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney, the costumes worn by dancers are a bit of a Las Vegas showgirl cliche. They felt out of place. During Tobias's final monologue, the acting was awful, middle school drama club stuff. ("Bake.... pie... razor..... razor..... cut..... CUT!) Huge pauses, melodramatic reading. SO, great with a very few hiccups!
You would never know this was a high school production. Excellent acting and singing. Would see again
What can I say can't believe they we're high school kids........
Absolutely amazing show! A very talented ensemble.
Sweeney Todd was great! However, both me and my boyfriend thought that the orchestra overpowered the vocalists. For this being the last show, we thought they would've had the sound dialed in better.
Not what I expected. Too many songs going on at one time. I thought that it might have more of a horror aspect to it. It didn’t. Overall I really didn’t like this play; I was bored and could have fallen asleep. I don’t recommend this play at all. I wasn’t surprised that when we came back from the inter mission that half the people in the theater didn’t come back as well.
Overall the show was very good. Actress who played Mrs. Lovett was excellent. Wasn't thrilled with the lead actor's performance. He was decent, but nothing to write home about. Supporting cast was average overall. Costumes and set were very well done. Orchestra was good. Really enjoyed Mrs. Lovett's performance.
The actors and their voices were good. The play music was terrible the play was VERY hard to understand it started about 25 minutes late.
I took my husband for his birthday(27 years old) to see Sweeney Todd, and he is not the kind of guy who likes plays/musicals, and it was amazing! He had a wonderful time and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening! The actors we all amazing, and Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovett gave me chills! My husband has been singing the songs for 3 days now! What fun!
I had only seen the movie before this production and wondered if it would be able to compete. While no one can compete with Johnny Depp as an actor, the play overall was wonderful and had an amazing cast. I would recommend this play to anyone.
Had never seen this play. Had seen the movie with Johnny Depp. The actor who portrayed Sweeney Todd was good but not as evil or sinister as the way Johnny Depp portrayed him. I even went on YouTube to look at other plays and the Sweeney Todd actors were more scary and dark. I thought Mrs. Lovett was great, but the actress who played the Beggar woman stoled the show!!!!! The rest of the cast was also amazing....great voices!
Flawless voices, stunning acting... with an eery mixture of horror and comedy. I recommend it to all.
I've been trying to share the joy of differing arts to my 16 year old daughter and her friends. This was our second play this year and we brought a new group of young ladies to this event. The young ladies were amazed and awed by the venue and were talking about seeing their first play. The looks and comments from other patrons, before the play even started, were nasty and then getting an usher to 'warn' us, was simply ludicrious. It may be a theatre frequented by ancient people, but unless they get a clue it will die with them. These younger kids were quite put off by the other theater patrons and pissed when the excessively aged usher chastised them for talking, although the lights had not even gone down. I don't want to take away from a nice play and a good performance by the acting troop, but at this point I'm not sure I want to go back to that venue. I'm trying to get the kids interested in the arts, not feeling left out because they are young. They need to rethink if they want young people to come and get interested in the theater or not.
Sweeney Todd isn't your typical 'feel good' musical. My daughter, who is a horror afficianado, had seen the movie and was excited to see it live. The performances were fantastic and the technical production excellent. I'd highly recommend to anyone.
I love this musical and have seen it in three or four versions, including with Angela Landsbury. This version is the most successful version I've seen overall, mainly because of the scale of the theater. The Arie Crown and Lyric Opera House were too big. A Ravinia version had better scale, but was not staged. All the performances here were top notch, but I especially loved having the Judge and the Beadle cast so impressively. With Sondheim, hearing and understanding the words is always critical. All the solo pieces came across very clearly. My only disappointment was that the chorus sections sounded muddy on the sound system and you could not understand what they were singing. Can't wait until Friday, when I see Follies, another dose of Sonheim! Not so ghoulish, but just as witty.
First play I have ever attended and it did not disappoint. Simply put, it was absolutely AMAZING.
An absolute treat to have a Broadway caliber show for such a reasonable cost. I have attended several shows at Drury Lane and this is by far the best production I have seen.
It was a great show with a wonderful cast . Would love to go back to Drury Lane for another.
Strong vocals and respectable staging. Oddly, this show was just plain fun, even with the nature of the production. Long performance but paced well.
