Suzy at her Finest
by Inyati on 6/20/10Birchmere - AlexandriaSuzy Bogguss' clear, crisp voice was quintisentially fantastic Saturday night as she crooned away on everything from country (and Western swing) to Memphis blues and classic American folksongs. Taking the stage with an infectious joi-de-vivre, she performed her staples with fun and vigor, or with a hollow sadness, as the occasion required so as to evoke nostalgia in the hearts and souls of the audience. Accomanied by a bass fiddle and guitar/mandolin performed beautifully by her companions, the sound delivery was crisp and not at all overwhelming as some small venues experience. Suzy was as fiesty and fun as ever, mixing the down home country girl with a maturing sexy maven giving images of late night blues in a smoke filled room and a bottle of Blind Dog bourbon somewhere on the Missisippi. With all of her fine repetoir, I still wish she would perform a rendition of "American Pie" - she could knock that one out of the park, along with anything she wants, from Hank Wiliams to the Eagles. Suzy, you were great.
