    Summer of Love

    by BobinNH85 on 7/18/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

Great entertainment for all but especially for those of us who were part of the love generation at it's peak. The songs blended well with the story (ala Mama Mia) There were several highlights but the solo by Soara-Joye Ross brought the house down. There were a couple of scenes that may have bothered some of the audience but they didn't take away from the sheer enjoyment of the show. I'd love to see the show come back some time. P.S. Michelle Lee was fantastic, what a performer.

    true passion and emotion! wow!

by solutionismnetwork on 7/17/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

this show could not have been better except if they had a higher budget and even better effects for certain scenes but the cast was amazing. they sang songs like Janis Joplin's "piece of my heart" Jesse Colin Young's "Get Together" and Harry Nillson's "One" with more passion and emotion than the original. everyone in the cast was beautiful. they poured their hearts out and got mine in return! i just hope this is not really the end for this show if this show ends up on Broadway it will have ramifications in society. the world needs this show

    terrific nostalgia trip

    by Zendy72 on 7/17/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

A really good integration of a variety of amazing songs from the 60's and 70's woven through a basic narrative of love lost and found. Comparisons to Hair are obvious and I believe this show compares favorably to the earlier classic.

    Great music; weak story

    by CJB2U on 7/16/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

It was wonderful to take a walk back into time and hear some great songs from the "Summer of Love", but this production offered little else. The musical numbers were very good with some strong vocals. Unfortunately, the lovely Michelle Lee did not have vocals that came close to those of the rest of the cast which was not fair to her OR to ticket buyers. Singing is not her strong suit, and it's too bad her acting part was not enough to highlight her talents. The story was very predictable and not very exciting. I can't imagine this production moving to Broadway unless they ramp up the set, rewrite the story line, and get some fabulous characters with great pipes!

It was good, but not quite what I expected..

by PaxJC on 7/15/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

While it brought back all the songs I remembered from the 60's, and my own experience of the "hippie" culture; I did not appreciate the reference and apparent condoning of the drug usage. Not all hippies smoked hash and took mind alterating drug, nor did they all sleep together. The actors, however, were believable and excellent at their craft. Their voices were strong. In reading the Director's Notes, it was a moment in time and I'm glad it's in the past. There were and are other more constructive ways to promote peace and love. The hippies glorified here are the very ones that gave us "good hippies" a bad name.

    Gay Emphasis Plus

by tomyt on 7/15/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

The singing quality was very good. Acting was average. The play over does the public display of gay couple affection with the caressing at front stage. Overall plot was never developed.

    The 70's revisited

by LTRx on 7/15/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

This was really entertaining. The songs were interwoven with the story line, and it was cute. Michelle Lee was herself. The singers were very good. The whole premise was very nice. Some talk that this touring production of Summer of Love would make it to Broadway. Could see this quite easily. If have lived through the 70's [or even if not] you will enjoy this production!

    Energizing

    by Flowerchild16 on 7/14/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

As a child of the 60's, who also visited Haite-Ashbury, I found myself wanting to get up out of my seat and sing with the very talented cast. Worth every penny! Special kudos to the entire production staff. You make me so very happy!

    Summer of Love was incredible

by tbrose on 7/13/11Ogunquit Playhouse - Ogunquit

The talent of the actors was absolutely amazing. The music was right on and man could those people sing. I had goose bumps when Soara-Joye Ross sang, she should be on the radio and so should Frank Lawson. The dancing was perfect however, Katie Lee Hill stood and to say she is amazing would be an understatement.

My husband & I attended the Ogunquit Playhouse production and it was fabulous! Our seats were incredible and the talent of all the actors was fantastic.. The singing, sets and the mood of the play was very enjoyable. Michele Lee was terrific in her character and was ajoy to watch. Who knew she could sing!
