Sum 41 in Concert
Two-time Juno Award winners Sum 41 rode the crest of the nu-metal wave in the early 2000s with a catchy blend of punk, rap and metal elements woven into their music. They were able to pinpoint some of the most infectious characteristics of popular genres and meld them into a hybrid that won them throngs of fans who were eager for more. Tickets to their concerts traditionally sell out fast, as fans don't want to miss the chance to jump up with the band and request songs through the extra microphone that seems to just float around the stage. The band orchestrates this circus-like scenario night after night on tour and even indulges in a cover or two by Judas Priest or Iron Maiden —complete with drum solos. Incidentally, the band was lucky enough to borrow drummer Tommy Lee from Motley Crue for a stretch between 2001 and 2003. Their August 2011 release Sum 41 Live at the House of Blues boasts plenty of live concert antics and features the hit songs "Underclass Hero," "Motivation" and "Fat Lip."
The band hails from Ajax, Ontario, Canada and is fronted by lead singer, rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter Deryck Whibley. They began in 1996 as a NOFX cover band called Kaspir but eventually changed their name for a high-profile show opening for Supernova. They signed an international record deal with Island Records in 1999, which resulted in their 2001 debut release All Killer, No Filler. They embarked on a relentless journey of touring and songwriting that led to the 2002 release of Does This Look Infected?, 2004's Chuck, 2007's Underclass Hero and the 2011 release Screaming Bloody Murder, with subsequent tours. Sum 41 continues this tradition with a string of Canadian tour dates scheduled for the spring of 2014.
Sum 41 is touring on the Rockstar Energy Drink DISRUPT Festival in 2019. The touring festival features unique lineups in each city, including The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41, The Story So Far, Atreyu, Sleeping With Sirens, Andy Black, and more.

This show was incredible. I've seen sum 41 twice before and they just keep getting better and better. First time seeing simple plan and they did not disappoint. I wish the merch was cheaper, $40 for 1 t-shirt is just crazy. I also wish the two bands sang their collab song together on stage. Why wouldn't they perform ruin my life while touring together? Other than that, it was a totally epic show.

I'm only giving this two stars because I have loved Sum 41 & Simple Plan since I was a teenager, I wish I didn't have to write this review but I wanted to share my experience. I have never been to a show at the Fillmore, but I feel like I wouldn't go back. None of the "VIP sections" were blocked off and we learned that by a guy flashing his light in our face and rudely telling us we couldn't be in that section (even though it looked like you could be) because it was next to the bar upstairs. I am in no way a person that has to be front row or would try to sneak into a section of the venue we weren't supposed to be in. However, the layout is very confusing and unorganized. I also recommend going across the street and loading up on drinks if that's your thing at shows, because two tall boys will run you about $30... I miss the times when you could go to a show, and it was cheaper, more relaxed and everyone had a good time. Sad.
Literally felt like I went back in time 15+ years. Both bands were so good and brought amazing energy to the stage. I wish I could do it again!!
The bands were great! They all put on a fantastic show. The venue was terrible. So hot, so freaking hot. No ventilation. There was condensation dripping from the ceiling. Drink selections were terrible as well. I enjoy Captain and Coke, my choice here was well and pepsi or kraken and pepsi. Who doesn't stock Captain? The staff were great and were definitely trying their best, no fault on their part, the venue owner needs to figure out how to properly ventilate the building and get some AC pumping in there.
Nostalgic, fun as hell! Definitely would go again.
Absolutely amazing concert! The bands had great energy and looked like they were having a fun time. The only negative thing was how insanely hot it was in the venue. We all left soaked head to toe in sweat and even the bands were commenting on how overly hot it was.
This show was everything i hoped it would be, and more! Sum 41 and Simple Plan both sounded exactly the same as they did 20 years ago, and played all of my favorites!
The workers at the venue kinda didn’t know what was going on which caused VIP to go in super late even though we asked them 100 times. But the performance was amazing!! Pierre is easily the best frontman I’ve ever seen and he really pays attention to the crowd!! The rest of Simple Plan does as well!! To the best of their capability at least, kinda hard with an instrument in your hand. Deryck blew me away as well along with the rest of Sun 41!! It was so good, I saw it twice.
It was an overall really good concert. The room was a bit small for a Sum 41 event, and I am really disappointed that they didn’t listen to our encore to come back and end the show and play “Pain for Pleasure” like they usually do. I am also really sad that they didn’t play “Ruin my Life” with Simple Plan, as they wrote this song together and both bands were on stage. Despite those negative points, they still are a fantastic band to see on stage, their songs are amazing, and their show remains incredible.
Love this band. Seen them twice. They don't F around pumping out their bangers and maintaining high energy the entire time. The audience is usually mostly male, everyone is a die hard fan and no bad experiences yet in the bay area.
Simple Plan and Sum 41 are AMAZING!!! The Magnolia Park band was dope too!
I have seen Sum 41 a couple times in the past 10 years and honestly they find a way to be even more incredible live every time I see them! I can't wait til the next show!

Venue is just the right size. Small enough to make it intimate, big enough to fit a good number of people and to bring a ton of energy.
Great venue. Amazing fun show. Great set up and easy to get a drink. Great part of town as well.
Came later than I had expected and still had a good view! The first set, was Magnolia Park and they were pretty good, had not heard of them before. The crowd was also very pumped for each band. Simple Plan was great as always bringing back memories from my youth! Sum 41 was intense! They play great live and have really good stage energy! Hoping to see them again soon.
They absolutely killed it !!! Pyro and fantastic vocals. Always put on a show every member was 10/10
