    Off to a great start!

by womanizerdani on 5/10/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

This was the first year for Suburbia Music Festival. It was about time North Texas got it's own music festival. The line up was great and all the artists were great! Hopefully this festival grows and grows and becomes something like Coachella where people from all around the country travel here to attend.

Suburbia better become an annual event!!!

by zwturner on 5/10/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

Great location, lineup and pricing for the first ever Suburbia music festival. Making it a Saturday and Sunday event was a smart choice by the organizers. I look forward to what the 2015 event has in store in terms of the lineup and additions to the music fest.

    Really loved it, but.....

by BillieJeanB on 5/9/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

I would like to start off with the things that Suburbia did well, but I want to mention that my 15-year old daughter spent 90 minutes in the medical trailer getting IV fluids...I'll get back to that later. First, I would like to say that I loved the festival. I think Suburbia and Plano got a lot of things right and I really hope this comes back year after year to come. The venue is awesome, perfect set up for the multiple stages. Getting in and out was easy...good planning on the part of the city of Plano with extra police to direct traffic. One way to improve traffic would be to allow those who got there the earliest to park the closest (we were in lot C), not vice versa. And a bit lower pricing for parking wouldn't hurt ($10 at Edgefest, by comparison). Also, the walk to the venue is long enough....next year, think about putting the entrance somewhere closer. But I did like that you could hire a rickshaw, nice touch. Next, it is a very small thing, but...We really wanted to keep our ticket stubs. We save them for scrapbooks and I actually paid extra to have physical tickets mailed to my house, so I couldn't quite understand why you couldn't just tear or punch them and let us keep them. For the best thing you did.....The restrooms were AWESOME for portables, always cleaned and well stocked, even the handwashing stations were always full with supplies.Trash was always collected quickly, although I would have liked to see a LOT more recycling bins, especially with the number of water bottles that were being thrown out. The food trucks and vendors were also a great variety, some with better pricing than others. And lastly, I must say (from personal experience) that the festival did a great job having plenty of fire department paramedics on hand...and it's a good thing too, since it was so unseasonably hot and there was so little shade and water refill stations. My daughter actually suffered from heat stroke on Saturday just before 3 PM, not even 90 minutes after we arrived. She had to be evacuated from the stage by three firemen, it took three to carry her small frame because she was completely unconscious and dead weight. She was gray-pale and convulsing. So I say this with all sincerity...You must, must, MUST provide more shade next year, especially near the main stage. Please consider either misters, fans or both. And please, please, please have numerous water filling stations.

    Awesome for a first show

by DallasMode on 5/9/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

I really had my doubts about this show but it was pulled off almost perfect. Having been to many festivals across the country this shows already ahead of others that have been going on for years. They reacted quickly for the need of a water refill station and allowing water and camel bak in with water. They could have laid out VIP a little different but other than that it was a great venue. Hope they have more DJ's and better bands next year.

    Fantastic Sunday

by karlfs99 on 5/8/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

Purchased the 1 day pass to this 2 day event. Went Sunday. Whole event was very well managed. Easy parking, very fast and efficient bus to venue. Tons of bathrooms, food vendors, drinks vendors, bars, merchandise. 3 well spaced stages with overlapping music. Nicely permissive on bringing in camp chairs, umbrellas, sealed water. Very efficient busing back to parking after event ended. Great lineup. I really hope this event happens again next year with the same quality.

    Suburbia Music Festival

by Anonymous on 5/8/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

The event was absolutely amazing! I got the weekend pass which I would HIGHLY recommend. The single-day passes do not allow you to come-and-go as you please which is important to me because I don't like the heavy, greasy food served. Also, just know ahead of time that parking is CASH ONLY, even though it isn't posted on the website. The only complaint I have is that if you purchase a parking pass, it doesn't cover the entire day. So, if you leave for lunch, then you'll have to pay an additional $20 to park when you come back unless you walk somewhere. However, there were plenty of yummy restaurants within walking distance. This is what we chose to do.

    Fun Music Festival.

by Gleek on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

For the first Suburbia music fest, it was pretty good. I also have to give props to the city for directing the traffic, because I had no hassle/traffic getting to and leaving from the parking lot. The morning of the first day, the workers/volunteers at the gate were a bit unorganized stating that my 2 day ticket was only a one day ticket because it scanned on an alleged 1 day scanner. But the box office quickly righted everything for me. The first day was kind of a bust music wise with only a few worth while bands, but day 2 helped make up for that. I'm sure as if it goes on, they'll get more well known acts. I also really liked that the tickets were more affordable then other festivals (ACL, Coachella, SXSW, etc.) But again those festivals have more well known artists. My biggest complaints are that parking was literally a mile away from the festival (if you're from Texas, you know we don't like walking), and there was not a while lot of places to escape the sun unless you tried hide under a small tree sitting in the dirt. All in all the music was good and no sound problems occurred. I discovered some new bands, and I would probably go again next year.

    Suburbia in Plano

by growlerhill on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

This was a nice first-time major music festival. However, it was hot during this first weekend of May. I thought it would have been a major act of goodwill if bottled water had only been 1/2 of its $4.00 for 20 oz price. My other drawback is that I think 3 stages was a tight fit for the size of venue. Primarily, the Meadow stage and Cedar Room stages had a great deal of bleed if you were not standing directly in front of the stages. This was quite annoying while watching the Violent Femmes, yet hearing the other act between songs. Perhaps, next year they'll lower the volume of the Cedar Room stage-- they could also lower the Meadow since it was the single loudest festival stage I've ever heard while the Alabama Shakes performed.

Lovely setting but better bands would be great

by review55 on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

Pros: - Beautiful, spacious setting with three separate areas for the bands. I did not mind the one mile walk from the parking lot to the entrance as some people did who paid $20 for a rickshaw. - Incredible food selection and everything was high quality at a fair price. - Vendors and security officers were all professional and friendly. - Hand washing stations outside the portable toilets was nice to have. - Strong police presence kept most concert goers in line. - Adequate trash cans throughout. Cons: - Not family friendly. One rap band spoke and sang multiple, and repeated words of profanity before the sun went down (maybe 6 ish?) when there were many families with small children present. The lyrics were degrading to women. Droves of people cleared out of that stage area. - No current day, big name band in the line up or even a famous classic band. - $20 parking was one mile away--why so much when we paid for tickets? - Bar line was too long--took 25 min. to get a drink and lines were undefined. $12 for a large beer and $16 for a large mixed drink was outrageous. Mixers were low quality. - Bartenders had inconsistent rules. My husband left our spot to go purchase drinks and they told him only one per person. Later, he was able to buy two. - Not very environmentally friendly. I brought my own insulated beverage cup so my drink would stay cool longer in the heat and so that I would not waste a disposable cup, however, they would not prepare my drink in my cup so I poured it into my cup, threw out the disposable, and drank less than I normally would in protest. - Did not see recycling containers near trash cans. Beer was served in recyclable cans but there was nowhere to recycle. - I purchased two one day passes. There were two entry lines--one for VIP and several non VIP's. We randomly went to the first non VIP line and the lady scanned our tickets and then was alarmed that we had one-day passes and seemed to think we had gone to the wrong line. - No exit and reentry with one-day pass. - Would have preferred that the existing stage at the park have been utilized as it has terraced seating and permanent restrooms. Would have felt like I had gotten some use out of my tax dollars. - Hot time of year for a daytime concert. Most people did not show up until after 6 p.m. when the sun started going down.

    A Dandy Suburbia Music Festival!

by davidlzuck on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

The Dandy Warhols were great! Peter played 5+ guitars. Zia shed her hat to let her hair fly in the wind of a blowing fan. She also played bass. Fathead and Zia wandered the crowd and grounds before the show. Courtney gave the crowd some fun attitude directed toward shouts for requested favorite songs. Their sound was great. Wish they had encored. I stood 2nd row from stage (didn't want to lean on the rail). The weather was beautiful. Thank you Courtney for a wonderful gig! They should have been closing on main stage because they are the best band at this festival.

    Loved it, keep it going!

by Piper6 on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

I have been to a lot of festivals - coachella, lollapalooza, ACL and went to bottlerock in Napa valleys first year in 2012... I absolutely love the idea of a vestival in DFW. I think Suburbia was well done. I would go every year! I hope that it gets larger and larger.

    Well organized, great groups

by eussjw on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

The event was very well planned and organized. The diversity in musicians was amazing - this was a great way to see bands we knew and discover new ones, too. It was also family friendly, but without diluting the adult fun.

    Bring on Suburbia 2015

by Alleycat68 on 5/7/14Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve - Plano

The shows were amazeballs! Got to hear some artist I haven't heard of before. Got to hear some of my favorites. The local is prime, very magical fun setting. Had a blast. Took kids. Will be taking kids again next year. The JC Penny tent was a huge hit with kids. A place for shade, games, sitting & chatting. Hope you guys plan on 2015. I can't wait to see it in about 5 years. So fun!!!

The park is extremely clean and the temperature wasn't too warm yet. The stages were all pretty good, even the smaller ones and were set far enough that sound didn't overlap but close enough that you could hear them as your walked toward them. The bands were pretty good and well known. I loved how they sold band merchandise!
