About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

    by Bailey00001 on 1/18/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

When I bought these tickets I'd never seen Styx before listening to there music growing up was about as close as I have ever gotten. He show was unforgettable I only paid 150 for the tickets five rows away from the stage the view perfect the band insane the fun I had will not be forgotten half way through the show they had everyone rush the stage as my girlfriend and I ran up there we were mere inches away where I caught my first guitar pick high fives them and rocked out. Overall if they come to your city you have to see these guys fir they put on an unforgettable event that you will leave you in rock heaven.

  • Still Rock Loud after all these years.

They were good but didn't play long enough, quit after 85 minutes.

  • Another great night w/Styx

by Applegate on 1/18/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Styx put on another solid show at the Silver Legacy in Reno. These guys are amazing and dependable on producing a high energy rock show night after night. Their sets are filled with so many songs that the entire crowd can sing along. They did play some old material that hasn't been performed over the last few years and it was a nice change of pace, especially for hard-core fans. If you haven't seen Styx in concert, put this on your to-do list!

  • Styx Rocked!!

by MsVT on 1/18/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Great show and great venue! I would have liked to have heard some of their newer music as well as their old classics. That would be the only change or recommendation I have. It was still a fantastic show. I can't wait to see them again!

  • Styx rocked as always

by DAKO on 1/18/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Good set list. They played a lot ot songs off Pieces of Eight, and some gems off The Grand Illusion. Band was tight. Music was not too loud. Most old people there looked scared, like thet did not know what was going on. Crystal Ball sounded great. Could have been more of a guitar solo.

  • STYX Rocked HARD

    by styx74 on 1/18/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

I have to say Styx through the years has had its ups and downs like most rock bands do. However,on this Night ofJan 15th is like time stood still for me. Even without original keybordit/lead vocalist Dennis Deyoung ,this band was amazing. Laurance Gowan (the man who replaced Deyoung0, did not miss a beat in his performance. In fact he was in top notch form. Such as, getting the crowd singing Another brick in the Wall, by Pink Floyd even.. Along with Tommy shaw whose vocals and playing skills are top notch, along with JY young, Ricky Phillips, and drummer Todd Zuckerman. This show is not to be missed at all. Tommy said in the show that they will continue to rock as long as there are true fans that come out to see them.. if I have anything to say about it they will.. STYX for Ever.

  • Styx was Fantastic

Styx did not disappoint and exceeded our expectations they sounded great and still on top of their game!

by AburianCritic on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Styx's was hot. They put on a great show. Tommy Shaw was at his best both vocally and on his guitars. I was rather disappointed in the sound system @ Legacy. Going to see Dennis Quaid next week, perhaps with better seats, my opinion will change. Great show though!

  • STYX SOUNDED AS GOOD AS 30 YEARS AGO!

    by Rockindude57 on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

I took my wife and my son (as an 18th birthday present) to see STYX at The Silver Legacy in Reno. I had seen them there 3 years ago too. This time, they played a number of songs from The Grand Illusion album that they had not played before. That set included: Man in the Wilderness, I'm OK, Queen of Spades and Castle Walls. I did not know these songs but they were FABULOUS and were all sung by the guy who replaced Dennis DeYoung. His name is Lawrence Gowan. Look at his background. He has a ton of experience. This guy not only sounds like DeYoung, but his voice soars and he rocks and the band is promoting him more and they should! If you see STYX, expect them to play most of their hits and play them to perfection. You will not be disappointed. They ROCK BIG TIME and are full of energy. The crowd can sure sense that and responds!

  • Man Crush

by Nettem on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

My boyfriend and I thought it was a great show! great music. Danced and had a terrific time. After so many years they still have the voices and all of them look great. I think that my boyfriend had a man crush on Tommy Shaw. I could be jealous. LOL!!

  • by IndyCindy1 on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

I was very pleasantly surprised! These guys still rock all these years later. I am so happy I finally got a chance to see them perform live. What a treat!

  • Thoroughly enjoyed it!

by locdoc on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Saw them at The Silver Legacy in Reno. Great reasonably sized venue. Really energitic, talented musicians. All the hits plus a few lesser-known gems. They played like they were rocking an 80K-seat stadium. Looked like they were having a blast.

  • Styx Rocks!

by traff on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

Great, high energy show. Played the greats and even a few "B-Tracks" from Pieces of Eight and Grand Illusion. Tommy Shaw and Lawrence Gowan are a perfect match for the great songs of Styx. Gowan's performance on Come Sail Away just blew the roof off the venue. James "JY" Young's Miss America was spot on... Great show and can't wait for them to return to the area.

  • Styx at Reno Silver Legacy

by maxthesax on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

Consumate professionals who obviously still enjoy making music together, Styx always puts on a stellar show, featuring strong vocals, vocal harmonies, and sizzling guitar work. For this tour, the band performed heavily from The Grand Illusion LP during the middle of the show; and while it was nice to hear some of the lesser songs performed live, the show lost a bit of the searing energy that the set started with. I don't expect the band to be solely a juke box, regurgitating all the old hits, but those lesser songs kept this show from being truly amazing. The band seemed very at ease and played to the crowd, most of whom sang along with each and every song - pretty powerful to hear a thousand voices singing in this smallish, enclosed venue. Overall, Styx could knock your socks off doing just about anything (as their last studio LP - the Big Bang Theory, a series of cover tunes, so aptly demonstrated). I highly reccommend seeing this group, even if you aren't familiar with the material. They can still Rock.

  • Styx

Great show. Great seats. Great audio. Showroom was a little too warm though.

  • Styx was great as always!

    by treedee2 on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

The music was great! I didn't like that the venue had us remain sitting during the first 3/4s of theconcert,it was rock concert, for heavens sake, standing near the stage is warranted!! I tried to get a autograph from Tommy Shaw after the concert he wouldn't stop for me!:(

  • by Anonymous on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

Still rocking after all these years. Tommy Shaw's voice has not changed, still as strong as ever. New guys are great!

  • Styx was classic

by StyxatSilverLegacy on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 5 out of 5

Still rockin after all these years. I took my 15 year old son to the show and we were both impressed. They played all the classics, and some stuff you wouldn't expect as well. They still harmonized like the old days, and seemed to genuinely appreciate their fans.

  • Veteran rockers still got it!

by Palkdss on 1/17/11Silver Legacy Casino - RenoRating: 4 out of 5

The amazing talent of this band is incredible! They played all their hits plus a few new ones for almost 2 hours. Definitely a must see if you get a chance.

  • Styx Rocked !!!!

Another great show by Styx! Lots of the older material that isn't played much anymore. I love how Styx fans will sing along with the group! Chuck Panazzo was there as well, made it even more special. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
