About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

    Concert was Excellent

by 80smusicfan2 on 7/13/09Wheeling Island Stadium - Wheeling

I really enjoyed the concert. 38 Special, REO Speedwagon and Styx all put on a excellent concert. I have been listening to their music for 25 years and they did not let me down. I didn't like the fact the the stadium didn't let us in until 30 minutes till the concert was suppose to start and then the concert was about 40 minutes late starting. But the performance by the bands was great even though Styx didn't sing Mr. Roboto.

REO Speedwagon just as awesome as ever!!

by starr1 on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

We had a great time! 38 Special was the opener and they rocked. REO was the best! I was taken back to my teenage days of driving around listening to them in my car. Awesome!! Styx was great too, but REO topped them! It was great to see fans in their 40's and 50's and then the younger generation enjoying what we grew up on.

Styx Still Has the Magic of Grand Illusion!!!

by grego on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

This event was a highlight of my summer, I have been rather disappointed seeing concerts of todays popular music. Why would I see a band that has only 1 popular song?? When I can go see bands that can play all night long and I know every song. I was in the pit and Tommy Shaw was great. Also, Styx has the number one rock and roll drummer in the world!!! It was a great show for the money, worth every penny!!!

STYX GOOD./REO VERY GOOD/38 SPECIAL GOOD

by JAYOFLANCASTER on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

IT SEEMED AS THE CONCERT WENT ON, EACH GROUP TURNED UP THE VOLUME AND THE SPEAKERS GREW LOUDER. TO THE POINT STYX WAS TOO LOUD. WHEN THE INTRO MUSIC FOR STYX CAME ON A WAVE OF AIR HIT THE AUDIENCE. ANYWAY, 38 SPECIAL GOOD INTRO AND LAST 12-15 MINUTES PLAYED THEIR CLASSICS.GREAT GUITAR,OVERALL ENJOYED,IST TIME SEEING THEM. REO PUT ON A GREAT SHOW, GOOD PACE .PLAYED ROCKERS INTERPERSED WITH BALLADS, LEAD SINGER WAS A SHOWMAN, GOT AUDIENCE INVOLVED, AND SCREEN EFFECTS WITH MUSIC WAS EFFECTIVE. STYX WAS GOOD,GREAT MUSICAINS, GOOD SCREEN EFFECTS,JUST PACE OF SHOW DIDN'T FLOW AS WELL AS REO. NO REAL LEADER,THEY ALL SHARED THE MIC. THE PIANO PLAYER WAS FUN AND HIS VOICE WAS VERY GOOD. BUT THERE SHOW WAS ALL ROCK, THEY DIDN'T PALY ANY LOVE BALLADS LIKE LADY. THEY SHOULD PLAY ALL THERE HITS, THATS WHY WE COME TO SEE THEM. THE ENDING WAS NICE HAVING BOTH GROUPS TOGETHER. 0VERALL FUN HAD BY ALL,ENJOYABLE EVENING. AND I JUST LOVE THE NOKIA THEATRE. GOOD SOUND AND ALL SEATS ARE GREAT,PLENTY OF PARKING AND PLACES TO EAT AROUND.

    38 Special Was Awesome

by CarrieA on 7/13/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

While the entire concert was good, the general concensus of the people we went with was that 38 Special was awesome. Styx was good but we were disappointed with them - certainly could have put on a better show. REO, as usual, was a good time.

    STYX SOUNDED FRIGGIN' AWESOM !!!

by 1980StyxFAN on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

NOKIA LA LIVE: the Bill was 38 special, REO and Styx. Typically for concerts there is a considerable amount of distortion that occurs. I have started using Ear plugs to dampen the distortion and try to enjoy the music. While my wife was in line to get refreshments she had heard from the clerk that Styx sounded really great during the sound check. No we have already gone through 38 special end REO performing and Earplugs were needed. When STYX started performing about halfway through the first song I realized that I did NOT have my plugs in and nor did I need them. The sound Was CRYSTAL CLEAR. I even told my brotherinlaw to take his out and he tried it and agreed. This was first time I really, really enjoyed a show being able to hear the music and the vocals in harmony and clear as a bell, great show guys!!! Thanks, I went to see Styx in the late 80's at the Forum, but the show was canceled due Guitarist broken finger...thanks for redeeming yourselves.

Awesome double bill! They still rock

by yomo on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

Such a great combo, and having .38 Special open was brilliant! They are all still so good and so much fun to see live. The music still stands up today. I haven't had that much fun in forever!! Great video screens & coverage, too. And I loved that they moved us closer to fill in the floor:)

A great evening with 3 legends

by Liquormike on 7/13/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

My girlfriend and I are big fans of STYX , REO & 38 Special. We had seats , but I dont think we ever sat down!!! The music was great and we had a terrific time, evidenced by the fact that we both had hoarse voices the next morning from all the songs we sang!!

    hijacked show

by infideljon on 7/13/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

went to see styx and reo but instead what i got was a 38 special show of about 30 min. then 40 min of reo and probably 20 min of styx of which they did a bunch jamming and only 3 songs. so i guess i expected more styx less 38 special and about the same reo. will never go to another show including 38 special unless they are alone.
