Named in 2011 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine, Sting remains one of music’s major players, touring and recording at a prolific rate. Inspired by a musical he penned by the same name, Sting released his 11th solo album, The Last Ship, in September, 2013. The musical, a telling of the demise of the shipbuilding industry in Sting’s hometown of Wallsall, UK, opens on Broadway in 2014.
Singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, world music aficionado, activist, actor, and philanthropist, Sting has worn a multitude of hats over a career that goes all the way back to the early ‘70s. While known as the voice, songwriter, and bassist for the phenomenally successful band The Police, it is as a solo artist that the breadth of his talents have truly shone. From his beginnings as a brash punk rocker, Sting evolved into an artist who incorporated everything from jazz to reggae to classical. His 1985 release, Dream of the Blue Turtles, set the tone for his metamorphosis as a solo artist and was notable for his use of renowned jazz musicians within a pop rock setting.
Sting was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 as a member of the Police, and has won a total of 16 Grammy Awards for his work with the band and as a soloist. Add to that three Brit Awards, a Golden Globe, Emmy Award, and several Oscar nominations and one begin to understand the scope of his popularity. Always a crowd pleaser in a concert setting, ticket sales for Sting shows are strong across the globe. Over the course of their career, Sting has played many famous venues, like Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion and Madison Square Garden.
I don't know what else to say than, 'Iconic.' This performance, the venue, and the experience were awesome.
Sting was remarkable!! He stayed very true to his familiar songs which permitted incredible audience participation. The pace of the concert was perfect and the sound was spot on. Great job to Sting and his ensemble! And, The Cynthia Woods Mitchel Pavilion venue…arguably the best in America.
AMAZING! I was so happy to hear that Sting was coming to Houston. I was certain that I would attend this concert, even though money is very tight and I was being irresponsible, there was no way I would miss this opportunity to see him perform. I'm an 80's girl, big fan of The Police. I went by myself, had a blissful, emotional, fun time! I cried, clapped, sang and danced. My happy cup was full. At 72, he's still rockin' and looking hot! His voice touches my soul, I'm so grateful for this opportunity, I will never forget this experience.
Wasn't sure what to expect from this concert when I purchased tickets months ago. I'd been heartbroken watching an ailing Phil Collins attempt to perform all his hits I grew up with. I knew Sting was up in years and as we age we tend to lose some things. For singers it's usually their voice, the most important instrument of all. But Sting is an entertainer, a philosopher, and a wonder. His age is apparent but his health is probably better than mine and I'm 20+ years his junior. His voice was damn near perfect as he rattled off hit after hit from his immense catalogue of a lifetime of songs. He along with his band of accomplished vocalists and musicians jammed all night impressing us all. Sting interacted with the audience and regaled us with his wit and charm as he gave us a glimpse into some of his songs. It was an emotional experience for me personally seeing a true professional in his element, doing what he loves and doing it well. I checked his playlist for this concert and was very excited to hear those songs live and he did not disappoint. An added bonus was seeing his son perform as the opening solo act as well as joining in for some songs at the end of the concert. It was a magical night and makes me kick myself for not seeing Sting sooner. A true living legend.
This event is one not to miss. Sting is witty, charming and musically mesmerizing. He played music from the Police and as Sting. The are some vocal spotlights of band that really round out the evening. One of the best concerts I have been to in a long time. Its a definite vibe and if you grew up with his music --- the nostalgia is palpable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
the organization of the event, how clean and beautiful the place was. super pleasant experience. Simply amazing concert. Love it !
Sting concert was everything I expected it to be. Great music, great energy, great seats, great camaraderie! Purchasing tickets was quick, easy, and smooth. Accessing the tickets was also quick, easy, and smooth. I appreciate the secure feeling I have purchasing from Ticketmaster.
Sting is a most talented musician, a gifted voice, a creative song writer, and an excellent bassist, with energy and emotion to captivate you. Sting captured me from the first song and built up emotions that sometimes led to tears of happiness. In addition to the mesmerizing music, he interwove stories and comments that were shared from the heart. See Sting in person. You'll be glad you did.
The quality of Sting's voice still remains fantastic! His storytelling and his connection with the audience made the evening so enjoyable. We appreciated that Sting delivered all of his hit songs....exactly what we paid for and expected. Along with Sting's musicians and singers, they executed a first class performance.
Sting's shows are always flawless, he always showcase his fellow backup singers and other members of his band and is always fun on your feet singing and dancing. His a legend and such a artist and storyteller.
Sting sounded awesome. Sang his hits and it was a fun/carefree experience. Great open air venue. My only issue was that the parking lots for the venue were a little far and that I had to sit right behind the people that would not sit down! I buy a seat to be seated. Most of the audience was seated except for the people in front of my section. This isn’t a hard rock concert!
Sting sounded awesome. Sang his hits and the atmosphere was friendly and carefree. Great venue!
It was a flawless concert. Tight performance! Sting was terrific as we have heard he would be and the other band members shone in their own rights. We were impressed that the show started darn close to “on time.” A rare thing. First time at the Cynthia Woods. Very nice venue, though our seats 10 and 11 in Row G were no longer comfortable after thirty minutes. Restrooms were clean and spacious.
Third time I have seen Sting in concert. He still puts on a great show. Worth every penny. I recommend seeing him, especially if you haven’t seen him before.
A wonderful night with great music and a great atmosphere. That night should never be ended. Thank you Sting
Sting really gave everything he had. The band was incredible and to see Dominic still playing along him was an incredible experience. I've waited years to see Sting in concert and finally a dream come true!
Sting is timeless and performed a high energy and crowd pleasing show at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Great venue with wonderful acoustics on a beautiful night added to the overall experience!
It was everything I hoped for! Like my memories brought to life!
I saw so many wonderful lights & people. Who interestingly wanted to take my picture. They looked at me with love
Getting to and from the Toyota Music Factory was really pleasant compared to some of the concert venues around the area. The venue is nicely spread out with multiple entrances to the seating areas and spacious fast food areas. Coming out of the seating area during the concert you have the ability to still see, since there are screens around with live footage of the show. We had great seats but of course its all dependent on the act. Sting was amazing. No breaks between songs - each one rolled into the next and he interacted with the audience. The music was great and from where we sat the sound was great. Joe Sumner was a great opening act and even better when he joined in for a song or two during Stings performance.
