Steven Page , voice is incredible!

by Jajbell on 1/19/15Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

Steven Page was in great form, his voice was energetic and he sounded amazing. This was an acoustic show and he was joined by a cello player which was really cool. The venue is the best in town! I look forward to seeing him again.

    Steven Page in great form

by butters1 on 1/19/15Bears Den At Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel - Niagara Falls

I didn't realize this was an acoustic show when I purchased the tickets but it didn't matter. Mr. Page was great and his voice was amazing. He played a lot of the classics and showed he is really an under rated guitar player as well. Kevin Fox accompanied him at this show and the banter between them was hilarious. If you want to see a truly entertaining show and witness an amazing voice I highly recommend you go see Mr. Page, you won't be disappointed.

    From MSG to Merc Lounge

by BigMikey1985 on 8/31/11Mercury Lounge - New York

Page is back in true form. The show was very personal, very intimate and very honest. The last time i saw him was at MSG and seeing him at the Merc was a totally different experience. As a fan i am actually happy that he doesnt garner the same artifically inflated following as he used to.

Amazing show, will be seeing again!

by ringoffirejrc on 8/28/11Lowell Summer Music Series - Lowell

After seeing Barenaked Ladies in concert 3 times, I decided it was time to see Steve. The concert was originally supposed to be outdoors, at Boarding House Park as part of the Lowell Summer Music Series. Due to Hurricane Irene (more like a normal rain shower) it was moved indoors at the Lowell High School. It was a general admission event, and the doors were to open at 5:30. My parents, my friend Brendan, and myself got to the doors at 5 and waited patiently. Although they opened the doors a few minutes later than 5:30, we were first in line and got front row center seats (my first time ever having front row seats!) The opener for the show was originally going to be a band called Bronze Radio Return, but a Grateful Dead tribute band, Alligator Wine, played instead (after Bronze Radio Return cancelled). Although I am not very familiar with Grateful Dead's material, these guys seemed very musically skilled and sounded very tight. Better than most opening bands I've seen! Steve opened up with a great version of "A New Shore", one of my all-time favorites. He played a fantastic setlist, containing 8 songs from "Page One", 8 BNL songs, and even 3 from his 2005 solo album "The Vanity Project". During the main set, he played two songs from TVP that he doesn't play very often: "These Wasted Words" and "So Young, So Wrong, So Long". These were great treats that were very unexpected. For the encore, he came out solo (just himself and his guitar) and played another rarity from TVP: "Thank You For Sharing". Though he messed up a few times on guitar (since he doesn't play it much), it was a great rendition. Then, a song I NEVER imagined hearing him play started: "Intermittently" from the BNL album "Maybe You Should Drive". It was a very stripped-down, relaxed, and slow version compared to on the album. The band came back out, and they finished the show with a great version of "Brian Wilson". Steve's voice sounded fantastic. A lot of power behind his voice. I did, however, find that on songs with more complicated guitar parts (such as solos), Steve had a tough time playing guitar, and his singing was a bit hard to hear during these parts. Steve is a great guitar player, but he is more of a rhythm guitar player, not so much lead. I think it would greatly benefit Steve to find a lead guitarist, and Steve could play rhythm (like he did in BNL). That way, he could still provide rhythm perfectly, and focus on his voice better. Other than that, no complaints at all. Steve had a great personality throughout the show, cracking hilarious jokes and interacting with the audience. After the show, he came out to the merch booth to meet the fans and sign their stuff. I went to meet him, shook his hand, and he signed my Vanity Project and Page One CD's. He was very friendly, and seemed really happy. Overall, if Steve is in your area, definitely go and see him. He will provide an overall entertaining show, playing both his solo stuff and BNL classics.

A Great Show seen by too few

by sweatyboy on 3/7/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

As usual, Steven Page put on a seamless rock/pop show mixing a set list consisting of most of his new album (Page One), the best of his Barenaked Ladies songs, and a smattering of covers. Between songs he was very involved with the audience, responding to questions and requests, even allowing one exuberant female fan to come on stage and dance and mug for her friend's camera. His remarkable voice was not in perfect form, having trouble hitting several high notes, but it made no difference as his mid and low ranges were still clear and strong. One major difference between this show and past Barenaked Ladies shows was that Steven took on all of the lead guitar duties and performed quite admirably. The backup band was tight and they were all multitalented musicians. At the end of the show, I wanted more, despite Steven playing for nearly 2 solid hours, in front of a crowd of under 500. I can't wait to see him again and hope that others will turn out to see one of Canada's greatest singer-songwriters.

    Steven Page Amazing!

by mrszero on 3/6/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Having been a BNL fans for well over a decade Steven Page's voice is the voice of BNL and always will be But, he has always been able to transend above that due to his song writing abilities and his incredible range of his voice. We waited 4 yrs to see him again in person and he did not dissapoint his fans. He sang his new songs from Page 1 his new cd and many classic Bnl such as Brian Wilson and What a Good Boy and Powder Blue. Aside from some drunk hecklers who kept bringing up his former bandmates and his troubles of the past few years the crowd was very into the concert and we will always see him whenever we can. Mr Page is the voice of BNL and always will be. We want more!

    kickin' it in corduroys

by Brock1 on 3/6/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Steven Page and the rest of his band did an awesome job playing songs off the new album as well as playing Steven's older songs from the BNL area. I enjoyed the fact that Steven and the rest of the band were social with the crowed at times, even taking a request. No body is perfect in life, every one makes mistakes. Steven even mentioned it towards the end of the show, But BNL made a big one, letting Steven go out on his own.

    Steven Page was geeky fun!

by polkaplaid on 3/6/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Originally I gave this show 4 stars, then I decided it deserved 5 thanks to the inclusion of the flugelhorn, accordian, cello and the remote-controlled AV equipment throughout the show. The show was fun- even the lame jokes were fun - and Steven Page's corderoy suit was fun too. I liked the way Mr. Page interacted with his band and the crowd. The opener- Anya Marina was AWESOME. Loved her sense of humor and her songs.

So glad I got tickets to this!

by Celestialamy on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

It was like catching up with an old friend. It's been a while. It also was fresh in the way that he put together a terrific ensemble that more than aptly backed him up and the new songs are amazing. Smart, well written, very enjoyable tunes. It's always good to hear some of the old songs too. What a showman and a master vocalist. If Steven Page comes to your town, even if you weren't a Barenaked Ladies fan, do not miss it. The evening was delightful.

    Barenaked No More

by PRGrrl on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

As a fan of Barenaked Ladies, and having seen them live at least five times, I was excited to see Steven Page. I saw the Page-less Barenaked Ladies when they rolled through Portland last year, and his absence from the band is definitely noticed. Luckily, as it was pointed out during the show, Page got custody of "the kids" (the songs) in the divorce, and that's a good thing. No one can sing his songs like he can (and the new incarnation of BNL does his songs disservice). Page made a valiant effort, although his voice may not be able to handle his new-found front-man status, as he struggled to hit some of the highest notes in his register. All that aside it was a fun show, with a satisfying mix of new solo tunes and BNL classics. Some audience members weren't as forgiving, and made snide comments throughout his set. Page took the heckling in stride, and put on a good show that was worth the wait.

    Not BNL...but that's OK.

by DelicateFlower on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

We are long time BNL fans, so of course we wanted to see Steven Page. The venue was great (small and intimate). There were probably 200 people there, so if one wanted to stand next to the stage, it was totally feasible. Steven Page can definately wail, and his performance did not disappoint. With that said, do not expect the high energy antics of BNL, it is just different. There was a drunk fan that was so obnoxious he seemed more of a heckler. Yelling stuff like "Ed misses you" and "Get back together with the band". Steven handled it well with quick comebacks and honest confessions. Finally the audience yelled at the heckler to "get over it" and it got better. Steven was gracious during the performance and hung out afterwards for anyone that wanted to talk to him.

    Steven Page

by remarcp on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

The lyrics were hard to understand, especially the opening band. Maybe a sound system problem. From the balcony I couldn't understand much spoken or sung by the girl in the opening act. Steven Page was better but I was familiar with his songs.

Steven Page has never been better

by daughteranddad on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

I have seen SP perform on many occasions, through all the BNL years. He has never been more polished and professional on stage. His vocals are every bit as sharp as in the early days, and the energy is still sky high. The ensemble he is touring with are all seasoned, professional musicians. It is clear that considerable time and effort have been given over to practice and rehearsal, as on stage presentation is crisp and tight. His set list includes many old BNL favorites, which sound just as good as they ever did with BNL. The Steven Page sound is unforgettable, and it's incredible to see him sing his older songs such as Brian Wilson with his smooth voice. (Sorry, Ed, but you shouldn't attempt What A Good Boy in concert again - it just doesn't fit!) Steve did most of his new work off Page One, and his stage presentation was amazingly close to his studio quality. He remains one of the great lyricists and vocalists of our times. His stage presence is still dynamic and electric. I'm a devoted BNL enthusiast, and love Ed, Jim, Tyler and Kevin. I'll always buy their music and see their concerts. And though, like all of us, I miss the five of them together, I accept that this might be final. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to see Steve Page continue his brilliant career, and will continue to support him fully. He is a gifted and special talent. It was kind of him to come out after an exhausting day of travel and preformance to sign autographs for fans. It is a memory I will never forget. I love Steven Page; always have, always will.

    Steven Page = Fantastic!!

by Canadiangrl on 3/5/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

I was curious how Steven would be as a solo act and the answer is AMAZING!! He played some old Barenaked Ladies which was fantastic and also some of his new stuff! His new album is great and I am looking forward to many more. Steven was very personable during the show and even stayed after to meet the fans. The whole experience was much more than I expected and I will go see him again and again!

Steven Page @ The Stone Pony = Fantastic Show

by ReenG on 11/12/10The Stone Pony - Asbury Park

The opening acts were eclectic and very entertaining - Australian Kate Miller Heidke is a funny and very energetic performer with some interesting songs to introduce you to, and a huge vocal range. Steven Page and the 5 person (incredibly talented and versatile) ensemble with him were beautiful to watch, hear, interact with - to just take in in general! The energy was high, the crowd was intimate and close, bodies were moving and people were singing along the entire time without throwing the show off. It felt like they were playing for a small group of close friends, and put it all out there, inviting those friends to become part of the event. The setlist was a combination of the new album, Page One and favorites, and the encore was an extension of all the "MMMM goodddddd" the evening truly was. It couldn't have been any better unless they played all night. Even the Meet and Greet the after-show signing turned into was a pleasure. What better testimony of a performance is there than having people singing their was across the parking lot afterward, laughing and recounting the evening to those they had just shared it with? I've enjoyed this music for a while now. Seeing this performed live just set the hook. I'm addicted!
