Had never been to the Danforth Music Hall before, but will go again! The Hall is easy to get to: there is ample parking available and the subway and streetcars are right there. The building itself is quite spacious and the seats were surprisingly comfy. Acoustically, the sound was tight. And the performers were in their element on Friday night - they really reacted well to the closeness of the venue and the intimate atmosphere.
Any one of the three artists on their own can deliver a great concert (I know, because I have seen them all separately before), but the three together made for a spectacular evening (Canada's music scene version of the Three Musketeers)! They complement each other musically incredibly well, but you can see that they really enjoy each other's company too which makes it feel more like you are privileged to have been allowed into a practice session. They are loose, play off each other, and generally are doing this because they enjoy it and working with each other. I'm a big fan of all three performers and their respective collaborations. Craig Northey and the Odds have always been a favourite bunch to see live. Kevin Fox is amazing on the cello and how he can make that instrument sing is beyond words. But Steven Page's voice - OMG!! Steals the show EVERY time! And this time they featured a choir which was a wonderful addition to the show!
This is the third time for seeing Steven and Craig together, and my fifth time seeing Kevin Fox (I have been lucky enough to see the three perform together twice now). I would travel just about anywhere to watch a concert with these three troubadours - I seriously hope they continue to perform together for years to come. While Steven and Craig are travelling around on this tour together, Friday night was a rare treat for the addition of Kevin Fox [some may not be aware that he is currently performing with Chantal Kreviazuk and he was in Chatham the night before and Niagara Falls the next night, with a show in Halifax two days later...so on a rare night off, rather than see his family (only another hour away), he chose to perform - and we are EVER so thankful that he did!] HEADS UP - Kevin and Chantal are at the Danforth Music Hall with Chantal's Hard Sail tour on Dec 1!!
