About

Steve Martin & Martin Short on Tour

As two titans of comedy, Steve Martin and Martin Short have conquered film, television, and the stage in the course of their long, dazzling careers. But the live shows that grew out of both their friendship and their undeniable comedic chemistry create something special enough to stand out even among the many achievements of these two show-biz veterans.

In 2015, they worked up a show that combined both of their quirky gifts and started taking it around the country. Even more people got a share of the laughs when one show was filmed for the 2018 Netflix special An Evening You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life, where Short and Martin joke, jab, and jibe with each other and inject a little music into the mix as well. Martin showed off his Grammy-winning banjo prowess and Short displayed his Tony-winning vocal chops.

Later that year, the pair announced a new tour: Now You See Them, Soon You Won't. It presented an evening of all-new material and reunited them with Steve's Grammy-winning bluegrass compatriots — the Steep Canyon Rangers — for a couple of hot-picking musical moments in the bargain.

Steve Martin & Martin Short Background

Steve Martin debuted his offbeat brand of stand-up comedy in the 1960s, when he first reached a wide audience via the TV shows of the Smothers Brothers and Sonny & Cher. His appearances on Saturday Night Live in the mid '70s helped him become one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His idiosyncratic, often absurdist style translated to sold-out arena shows and platinum albums.

In short order he became a film star, with movies like The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was on the 1986 film Three Amigos that he first worked with Martin Short, who had become famous for his outrageous characters and sketch comedy mastery on SCTV and SNL earlier in the '80s.

Short went on to plenty of big films himself, and the two teamed up again in 1991's Father of the Bride as well as its 1995 sequel. Short became a Broadway star in the '90s with shows like The Goodbye Girl and Little Me, and he inhabited the classic character Jiminy Glick in the '00s for his Comedy Central series Primetime Glick. But for all the many accomplishments lining both their legacies, when Martin and Short come together for their live performances, they create an utterly unique comedic force.

    Hilarious and creative show

Fantastic show! Costumes, music, gags, and witty, intelligent humor. Did I mention the amazing band? So much more than a standup act!

    Hilarious But You Need context

by OzMom on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

For those who appreciate Short & Martin and all the comedy of the 70s-now, this show is just so much fun. Stayed in a throwback to vaudeville style, Shirf’s physical comedy is still on point at 74 and Martin’s smirk is still hilarious.

    Good duel comedy routine

by Catman on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

The show was excellent and for the older audience they could relate to many of the film clips they showed. I’m not much younger than both of them, but I was impressed that they could continue for the 2 hr show without a break, except when the band played. I definitely would recommend this show to my friends and family.

by PattiZ on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

Steve Martin and Martin Short have been favorites of ours for years. They did not disappoint! This show was great! They kept us laughing, and we didn't want the show to end. They were wonderful each individually and when they were together! So grateful we got to see them.

    Awesome show

by Dennis on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

My wife and I enjoyed the show very much! It was funny and very entertaining. Wasn’t raunchy like some other comedians could be. We would definitely go to another one of the Steve Martin and Martin Shorts shows again. The landmark is a beautiful theater.

    Fantastic!

by Bici on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

I haven’t laughed that hard in months! I loved that the audience all knew every episode, movie, joke and scene and could shout out the dialogue. It was like being at the Rocky Horror Picture Show! We loved it, but having to see most of the show on the large screen was too much like watching it on TV. We should have bought seats closer to the stage.

    Funny but already on Netflix

by Marshall on 5/6/24Landmark Theatre - Syracuse

Are Steve Martin and Martin Short hilarious? Of course. Is this a new show? Nope! Remarkably similar to their Netflix special with a few new jokes sprinkled in, this show was essentially the same structure with a couple extra parts. If you like extended bluegrass band breaks or don't have Netflix, this is appropriate for you.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

by BlueRidingHood on 12/19/23Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas - Las Vegas

Steve Martin and Martin Short are lifelong friends who appear to enjoy nothing better than picking at each other, and it is hilarious. If you enjoyed their interaction in Only Murders in the Building, then you will enjoy this continuation of that relationship.

    Funny, funny show!

by OC Fan on 12/19/23Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas - Las Vegas

The show was GREAT; laughed until my sides hurt! Only downside of the experience is that I had an extra ticket and I would have liked to sell or even give it to someone that wanted to go to this sold-out show. The Ticketmaster site is too hard to navigate.

    A night of endless laughter!

by Showtime R on 12/19/23Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas - Las Vegas

These two guys are incredible! They put on such a great show from start to finish. The audience loved the show as well. Steve and Martin (Marty) have worked together on various projects for 35 years and it shows. Two guys who have great timing and respect for each other, all while they poke fun at each other. Seriously, non stop laughing the entire time. What more could you ask for? Nothing! They are a must see!
