Steve Martin & Martin Short on Tour
As two titans of comedy, Steve Martin and Martin Short have conquered film, television, and the stage in the course of their long, dazzling careers. But the live shows that grew out of both their friendship and their undeniable comedic chemistry create something special enough to stand out even among the many achievements of these two show-biz veterans.
In 2015, they worked up a show that combined both of their quirky gifts and started taking it around the country. Even more people got a share of the laughs when one show was filmed for the 2018 Netflix special An Evening You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life, where Short and Martin joke, jab, and jibe with each other and inject a little music into the mix as well. Martin showed off his Grammy-winning banjo prowess and Short displayed his Tony-winning vocal chops.
Later that year, the pair announced a new tour: Now You See Them, Soon You Won't. It presented an evening of all-new material and reunited them with Steve's Grammy-winning bluegrass compatriots — the Steep Canyon Rangers — for a couple of hot-picking musical moments in the bargain.
Steve Martin & Martin Short Background
Steve Martin debuted his offbeat brand of stand-up comedy in the 1960s, when he first reached a wide audience via the TV shows of the Smothers Brothers and Sonny & Cher. His appearances on Saturday Night Live in the mid '70s helped him become one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His idiosyncratic, often absurdist style translated to sold-out arena shows and platinum albums.
In short order he became a film star, with movies like The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was on the 1986 film Three Amigos that he first worked with Martin Short, who had become famous for his outrageous characters and sketch comedy mastery on SCTV and SNL earlier in the '80s.
Short went on to plenty of big films himself, and the two teamed up again in 1991's Father of the Bride as well as its 1995 sequel. Short became a Broadway star in the '90s with shows like The Goodbye Girl and Little Me, and he inhabited the classic character Jiminy Glick in the '00s for his Comedy Central series Primetime Glick. But for all the many accomplishments lining both their legacies, when Martin and Short come together for their live performances, they create an utterly unique comedic force.

What a great show! Steve and Marty are still funny and at the top of their games! The two-hour non-stop show was a lovely mixture featuring film clips/pictures documenting their long careers & growing up. Most of the night was the two of them talking and joking with each other. Each of them took a break (at separate times) to do some material alone which broke up the show nicely. I especially liked the segment where Steve and the bluegrass band (Woody Platt and the Bluegrass Gentleman) were on stage. I'd seen Steve before playing bluegrass and was very happy he included some of that here. Great, great show - I'd love to see them again!
I did not look at any reviews or search any information on the show prior to going. What an absolutely hilarious time. These two put on a laugh riot from beginning to end. Sprinkle in some banjo and the night could not have been better. Just as funny in their 70s as they were in their 30s. Even more so now.
I am so glad that I purchased these tickets when they first went on sale! The show was packed with joke after joke, and something that really worked across generations. Thrilled to have seen these two comedic geniuses in person.
Steve Martin and Martin Short put on an incredible show! It was sold out. I wish they would have done 2 nights so I could have seen it again. Extremely funny and great.
Loved it. Two old guys busting each others balls for 2 hours. It doesn’t get any better.
Such a great show. Funny. Great stories. And the video at the start. Music was terrific and matched the night. Thank you!
as billed it was Steve Martin and Martin Short. A+ on the delivery. They were very funny
This show did not disappoint. Both Steve Martin and Martin Short are completely on their games. I really enjoyed the range of entertainment from straightforward standup comedy to physical antics to story telling and even great musical entertainment. 2 hours of straight hilarity!
Steve Martin and Martin Short (The Dukes of Funnytown) were a package full of entertainment! Between the jokes, the stories, the interaction with Jeff, the music, the singing, the one-liners, the pictures, and Steve and the band playing banjos etc... Oh and Martin's colorful socks while laying on the piano... It was a night to remember! You don't want to miss this two-man... 13-man show. ❤️🎭
Martin and Short were amazing. Two hours of non-stop laughter. Highly recommend
The jokes were wonderful the timing impeccable and the audience interaction was perfect.
The show was great. Can’t say one bad thing about the show. I wish it would have gone on for another hour or two. The chemistry these two have is unmatched. The only downside had nothing to do with the show. It was an obnoxious lady sitting behind me in seat I3 screaming and pretending she was onstage telling jokes, but even that was outshined by the show. I can’t wait to see them again if the opportunity presents itself.
The laughter never stopped! So talented! So humorous!
Great comedy duo. Unlike classic comedy teams like Abbot & Costello, Laurel & Hardy, neither Steve nor Martin are primarily "strait men", it's double barrel comedy. They are a matched set of comedians, masters of their craft.
Where to begin..the show was side splitting from start to finish ..from the opening montage' of both of their careers to the final act of song and dance. I read the reviews before and wondered..how funny can it be? - i was already a long time fan of both since my teens-It is and it was better than I could have imagined. They are both comic geniuses and appreciated even more seeing them live. Never in my 63 years have I laughed so hard for so long a period of time. I could go on...but go see them and make yourself feel good.
Fantastic show! Costumes, music, gags, and witty, intelligent humor. Did I mention the amazing band? So much more than a standup act!
For those who appreciate Short & Martin and all the comedy of the 70s-now, this show is just so much fun. Stayed in a throwback to vaudeville style, Shirf’s physical comedy is still on point at 74 and Martin’s smirk is still hilarious.
The show was excellent and for the older audience they could relate to many of the film clips they showed. I’m not much younger than both of them, but I was impressed that they could continue for the 2 hr show without a break, except when the band played. I definitely would recommend this show to my friends and family.
Steve Martin and Martin Short have been favorites of ours for years. They did not disappoint! This show was great! They kept us laughing, and we didn't want the show to end. They were wonderful each individually and when they were together! So grateful we got to see them.
