Steve Martin & Martin Short on Tour

As two titans of comedy, Steve Martin and Martin Short have conquered film, television, and the stage in the course of their long, dazzling careers. But the live shows that grew out of both their friendship and their undeniable comedic chemistry create something special enough to stand out even among the many achievements of these two show-biz veterans.

In 2015, they worked up a show that combined both of their quirky gifts and started taking it around the country. Even more people got a share of the laughs when one show was filmed for the 2018 Netflix special An Evening You'll Forget for the Rest of Your Life, where Short and Martin joke, jab, and jibe with each other and inject a little music into the mix as well. Martin showed off his Grammy-winning banjo prowess and Short displayed his Tony-winning vocal chops.

Later that year, the pair announced a new tour: Now You See Them, Soon You Won't. It presented an evening of all-new material and reunited them with Steve's Grammy-winning bluegrass compatriots — the Steep Canyon Rangers — for a couple of hot-picking musical moments in the bargain.

Steve Martin & Martin Short Background

Steve Martin debuted his offbeat brand of stand-up comedy in the 1960s, when he first reached a wide audience via the TV shows of the Smothers Brothers and Sonny & Cher. His appearances on Saturday Night Live in the mid '70s helped him become one of the most successful stand-up comedians on the planet. His idiosyncratic, often absurdist style translated to sold-out arena shows and platinum albums.

In short order he became a film star, with movies like The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. It was on the 1986 film Three Amigos that he first worked with Martin Short, who had become famous for his outrageous characters and sketch comedy mastery on SCTV and SNL earlier in the '80s.

Short went on to plenty of big films himself, and the two teamed up again in 1991's Father of the Bride as well as its 1995 sequel. Short became a Broadway star in the '90s with shows like The Goodbye Girl and Little Me, and he inhabited the classic character Jiminy Glick in the '00s for his Comedy Central series Primetime Glick. But for all the many accomplishments lining both their legacies, when Martin and Short come together for their live performances, they create an utterly unique comedic force.

When I bought the tickets it was not advertised as a conversation with Steve Martin & Martin Short. I saw them 2 years ago in Baltimore & it was fabulous as more of a comedy/variety/musical show. I wear hearing aids & had a very hard time understanding the entire dialogue of the Host & Stars. They spoke fast & didn’t enunciate for my hearing problem. I don’t regret going, it just wasn’t what I was expecting and not what was advertised. I didn’t know it was a conversation of just talking until that night when I saw 3 chairs on stage. Also didn’t know there was an opening act until I saw the name on the marquee of Kevin Nealon. Kevin even said it was last minute for him to be asked and he had never done this before. At one point Steve Martin said this was the first time that they have done this type of show. This was in Akron, Ohio on Thursday November 20, 2025.

  • Winner, Winner! Great Time But No Dinner.

Casual conversation can help pass the time. Thoughtful conversation can entertain. Witnessing comesy legends swap banter, barbs and more can be magic. Steve and Martin delivered with a nice assist from Kevin Nealon. Highly recommend.

From Kevin Nehland's opening act through the hour of Martin and Short, it was just hilarious. Well worth the money to see the show. Would go again.

Show was good Akron Civic theater seats in the balcony are way too small for a normal American human adult. I doubt that I will return to the Akron Civic theater again

We loved this show. Steve Martin and Martin Short had us laughing the entire time. It was fun how Kevin Nealon moderated it. His opening act was very funny too. Would highly recommend going to see this show.

I didn’t know what to expect exactly but my wife and I really enjoyed the show. Kevin Nealon opened and did a great job of getting us laughing with his low-key humor. He also did a great job interviewing Steve and Martin. The show format worked very well and allowed the audience to get to know these two great comedians better … like you were sitting in the living room, talking to them about their careers. I would highly recommend this show to everyone who grew up watching these talented guys.

  • Excellent comedy and music

by Heather Johnson on 11/17/25Boch Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I’m so glad that I splurged for the orchestra section! I wish I splurged for front and center! It was wonderful seeing these two comedy legends and listening to the Steep Canyon Rangers. I crocheted an Amigurumi for Steve Martin and the Bosch/Wang center staff said they would give it to his stage manager- which was better than I had even expected. They opened with about 20 minutes of video material- and I think it would have been stronger with a 5-10 minute video with a musical opening or a headliner- but they played all the classics, and the audience was generous and enjoyed the videos. I think the videos were important to pump up Martin Short- who worked his heart out- leaping around the stage like he is still in his 20’s- the guy has SUCH energy and cracked me up with his deliberately obnoxious charisma that I know and love. I seriously cried listening to Mr Martin and the SCRs. What talent!

The show is filled with music, jokes, and silly bits... so basically everything you think of when you think of Steve Martin and Martin Short. If you're a fan of their past works, then you'll be a fan of this live show.
