    not a huge fan

by gootimesattheOCfair on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

the event was good overall but, I think the diehard fans enjoyed it much more. great venue, great sound (not too loud) but I'm a couple of years too young to truly appreciate the Steppenwolf music - besides their classic hits, of course. John Kay's voice was amazing taking his age into consideration. Not sure I liked the political messages so much. Loved tribute to veterans.

The Grass Roots were awesome and so was Steppenwolf. Never seen either one before but have wanted to see the Grass Roots for 30 years. Venue and night was beautiful.

    Steppenwolf and Grass Roots

by Sixtieswomen on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

My date and I enjoyed the concert. The videos of earlier Steppenwolf were an incredible addition to the show and well produced. Having the Grass Roots with John Kay & Steppenwolf was an excellent pairing and made for a wonderful evening. I haven't got up and danced at a concert in years!!!! Thank you for the walk down memory lane and helping me to feel young again.

Steppenwolf rocked, the Grass Roots died

by BorrachoBrother on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

John Kay and Steppenwolf proved why their music still has power and relevance - they rocked the house with a number of lesser-known songs played with authority and punch. Five stars rating! On the other hand, the Grass Roots played for about a half-hour, left out a bunch of their better-known songs, and wasted time with inane crowd banter. 2 stars rating!

Steppenwolf was ok. Not real impressed with them. But loved Grass Roots. Wish they would be the Headliners. Best performance last year and this year

by Zephyr2u on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

What a night. I had one of the best concert nights in a long time at this concert! I would attend again and again if given the chance. I've always loved Steppenwolf and the Grass Roots was just a cherry on top!

Grass Roots are great. John Kay's voice is gone

by 400guy on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Grass Roots made the night. Love their singing and wish that they had a longer set. John Kay was flat and a bit off key. Seems like he lost his voice.

    Steppenwolf - Really?

by StepIt on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

We took my husband's sister and husband to the show. The Grass Roots were great. But oh my gosh, I must have forgotten how dirty Steppenwolf's song's were. I was very embarrassed. Not only were the lyrics flithy, they showed pictures of young girls, one had the name of Candy. I felt we were at a show of dirty OLD biker men! I was mortified to say the lease.

    A must see Rock show

by cal2009 on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Only knew 3 SW songs: Born to be Wild, Magic Carpet Ride & Pusher so thought they would dominate the concert. Wrong! Those songs were at the end. Before them pure gold Rock & Roll songs performed at top headliner quality. Normally do not like introductions to every song but John Kay had something interesting to say; not just marking time. Why more of this music has not played on the radio is disappointing. Bottom line: this was a well played concert. Every member of the band was excellent. John Kay started with a strong voice and ended stronger as well a playing great guitar. Puzzling why so many empty seats; what a shame so many Rock fans missed out on some of best rock to hit SoCal this summer. Found SW has a awesome web site with a DVD concert for sale at $18 and $45 at Amazon. This show would make a great video. John Kay & SW paid respect to Vietnam era Vets especially those that were in country. After the concert checked out SW music; it reflected social concern way back when, such as Monster/Suicide/America (1969). Again, shame never got much radio play in the past. SW may have been a much bigger name and there would have been no empty seats.

    Do it again!

by mikkiey on 7/30/14The Pacific Amphitheatre - Costa Mesa

Remarkable performance by both groups! Especially the harmony with the Grass Roots.. How the heck can they still "do it". They were super engaging as well. The rock vibe, slide show with old performances and energy from Steppenwolf- epic, incredible etc. They both still have it and can't wait to see them next year again & bring more of my friends.
