John Kay and Steppenwolf was a fantastic show. All the classics were included along with a little bit of narration. John Kay is a master of his craft.
Grass Roots were fun. We enjoy the songs. John Kay still sounds great. We love Steppenwolf's songs.
Great show overall. The Grass Roots opened with many of their hits. Then after the equipment change and some fine tuning from the roadies, the stage went dark and the wolf howled signaling the arrival of Steppenwolf. A total rock out showcasing the majority of their work. The audience singing along to each song.
All I can say is what a Great time & I will go see Stepping Wolf Anytime they are playing....
Great concert. Grass Roots did not play long enough. Wished they played longer. Steppenwolf was great. Played a lot of old school rock and roll.
The concert was fantastic and brought back sweet memories of bygone days. They sounded great and could really rock. I enjoyed how they ran old picture up on the screen and morphed them with pictures of them live.
Steppenwolf - Wish John had played more from the first album, far and away their best. But overall, he did play all the hits, and if you've never seen him, you should. Grass Roots - Please play Let's Live For Today at the right tempo! The way you played it sounded like the Quaaludes had just kicked in, and PLEASE lose that lame guitar solo - you could have played one of the other songs in its place. HOWEVER, on the whole, thanks for keeping this music alive, it's great to be able to still hear it.
Who would of thought that fair concerts would be so great! These guys Rock HARD!! It was a very good show and would go again. John Kay said it best- we may look like a bunch of old guys, but we're young men in old bodies!
John Kay & Steppenwolf were Amazing! Vocals, music were above excellence. Thank you Mr. Kay and Steppenwolf for sharing you gift of song, vocals and music. Love Magic Carpet Ride and of course, Born to Be Wild! The Grass Roots shared great musical talents. Thank you for your music. I would definitely see the show again and again. John Kay & Steppenwolf also had a video/graphics on two larges screens at OC Fair PacificAmphitheater which was fun seeing videos from back in the day - Fun and entertaining videos. Thank you.
Great seats in first row of our section with no one ahead of us; great view of the band, the graphics on both sides of the stage, awesome sound system!
The Grass Roots were fun, with everyone knowing every song. John Kay & Steppenwolf contrasted with more serious and heavier rock songs. We loved the guitar-work; and the videos and pictures were great. They added much more meaning to the songs, painting a picture of that time. John Kay has a strong voice, and is a thrill to see.
Grass Roots played a few very familiar hits; but ended after only 30 mins. Steppenwof played mostly unfamiliar rockabilly songs, recognized only the last four hits. All in all, it was an enjoyable event..
Besides great music, all vets were recognized with a special emphasis on Viet Nam Veterans. I had not seen any group do this before and was very touched. Thank you, John Kay!
Steppenwolf can still rock like performers half their age. John Kay is 70 now but still can command the stage and put on a compelling performance. Played all their hits including Monster..Magic Carpet Ride..Born to be Wild and The Pusher bringing the the audience their feet cheering. Also there was a great visual display on the screens above the stage showing the band from the sixties and seventies.
Who would have thought that a group from the late 60's would still be able to rock the house? John Kay and Steppenwolf did a GREAT job reminding us why they are legends. I especially liked their rendition of the blues classic, "Hoochie Coochie Man." A shout out to the Grassroots as well... Never let me said that these groups don't have their own swagger.
What a performance. Crowd was into it. Simply an awesome performance. Great tribute to our troops.
It was amazing and extremely enjoyable , fun and uplifting !
The Grass Roots sounded great, knew all the songs they sang. The crowd sang along. John Kay and Steppenwolf sounded exactly like they did in 1970 when I saw them. They're a bit older and have more gray hair but their voices and music haven't changed. Not thats one good band! If you get a chance to see them, grab it, you'll rally enjoy their show!
John Kay is truly a living legend in the music industry. Even at his age he is still an incredible performer and his voice is fantastic! I love his caring for world causes and his lyrics even today have more meaning than they ever have!
