About

Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.

Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.

The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.

Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.

In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.

In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.

By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.

A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

LOVED Static-X. Not only are they high energy and connect with the audience but their props and costumes and stage presence is stellar!

  • Amazing show!!!

by RDeV on 2/7/24Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Event Center - TampaRating: 5 out of 5

Wasn't sure what to expect, but all four bands killed it. Sevendust and Static-X finishing off the evening with insane levels of energy and awesome shows!!! However the venue itself, Hard Rock Seminole Tampa will take getting used to. I was in the GA pit which was nice, and they did manage to keep it cool, but highly recommend not getting seats as (at least the first few rows) are ground level, so if you are sitting you can't see with all the folks in the pit standing. Hard Rock needs to raise the seats about 3 feet or so to make at least the front few rows worth even getting.

Great show love the small venue would like to see some improvements to the venue itself

  • Venue was too packed

by Dubcheese on 2/6/24Revolution Live at the Backyard - Ft LauderdaleRating: 3 out of 5

Over all the bands sounded good, but if you weren’t in the building before 6:30 (doors opened at 5:30), you didn’t see the show. You heard the show and caught glimpses of the stage and a performer (maybe). The AC seemed to be broken and the venue had to turn industrial fans on to ventilate the area. This tour definitely needed to be in a bigger venue.

  • AWESOME SHOW

The show was awesome and the pit was super crazy, you’re so close to the stage no matter where you are

Was an awesome show for such a small venue. Definitely want to see them again when they are able to put on their full production. Definitely worth seeing.

First time seeing static x, is was awesome. And sevendust one of my all time favorite bands!. Revolution live is one of the best small venues I've ever seen, amazing staff and a great location. I like the smaller shows personally. Highly recommend seeing this tour, and catching a show at that venue is solid!!

Best concert I’ve been to in a while, all three bands were great

  • AWESOME SHOW

by Phenomize on 2/4/24House of Blues Myrtle Beach - North Myrtle BeachRating: 5 out of 5

There was an hour delay for the doors to open but it was well worth it. Sevendust still has it after all these years and were great. However, Static-X was absolutely incredible. I didn't know how I would feel seeing them perform without Wayne, but it worked out really well. I did not seem forced and Xero sounds eerily similar to Wayne. Now we need to get more bands to stop here in Myrtle Beach. Bands like Slipknot and Deftones have abandoned the smaller, more intimate venues.

  • Wonderful night

by Christine on 2/4/24House of Blues Myrtle Beach - North Myrtle BeachRating: 5 out of 5

It started a little rough with an hour and 1/2 delay opening the doors, a little confusion in the line with who to show I.d. To and who was giving wristbands, not sure it the opening band went on stage or not when I finally got in Dope was performing, there weren’t enough bartenders to take care of the crowd but even with all of that I will always go back to the House of Blues, everyone is always friendly. Each band was great & the tribute to Wayne Static was amazing.

  • Excellent Night

Static X put on a great show along with Sevendust and Dope! We had a wonderful time!

  • GREAT SHOW!

by JEH on 2/4/24House of Blues Myrtle Beach - North Myrtle BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The show was awesome. I wish it had started on time (doors were supposed to open at 5:30 but didn't open until 7). Being held in a smaller venue, there was not a bad seat in the house. All groups killed it. I really hope that I will have the ability to go to future shows. Even with the show being in the middle of the week, there was a good crowd and they did not disappoint. I wish each of the bands the best and hope to see them out a lot more. Some will say that Static-X isn't the same without Wayne. Although I was never able to see them while he was still with us, I thought they did a phenomenal job.

  • Holy cow

by Patrick on 2/4/24House of Blues Myrtle Beach - North Myrtle BeachRating: 5 out of 5

All 3 bands rocked out.I didn’t expect Seven Dust to rock to make me fall in love with them all over again.I loved every moment of Static X.I would pay money to see them all over again!

  • Serving the Myrtle Beach area, Static x killed it

by Titan HVAC 585 353 8956 on 2/4/24House of Blues Myrtle Beach - North Myrtle BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Was great show was a bonus to see. Dope was not expecting them that theatrics for static X were like nothing I've ever seen before ,Zero was great. And seven dust delivered i've seen them before and they never disappoint.. Also , if you are looking for a great deal on a heating and cooling system , mini split or service , give me a shout..

  • Absolutely Surreal

by Friz on 2/2/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Static-X and Sevendust brought the house down. The mix was on point, and they all brought their A Game. I've been to a large amount of metal concerts in my life. But the energy given off at this one was just insane. Everything was clearly audible and understandable, and overall electrifying.

  • Wall of noise

by DP on 12/2/23The Wiltern - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

Disappointing. I saw one of my favorite bands and I don't remember anything about it because all I could focus on was how terrible the sound quality was. Just a wall of static coming from the speakers. I know every Sevendust song, but it still took me a while to even figure out what song they were playing because it just sounded like noise. And no bass. 7D hits hard. I'm used to concerts pounding you in the chest with bass, but there's none here. I saw Metric here 6 months ago, and was surprised at how little bass there was then, too. There are no speakers pointed at the floor. I was down close, in the mosh pit, and the only sound you get there is reflections off the walls of the theater, so it just sounds like static. I wonder if the audio engineer is deaf. The Wiltern is a lovely theater, but they need to upgrade the speakers, work on the acoutsics, and keep the audio engineers in check. There was no bass, and the bands overpower the speakers, so you just get static. No speakers pointing at the floor, no direct sound, just reflections off the walls and ceiling.
