Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Insane how good the show was sound was incredible nice lace for some metal and cold beers !!!!!
The show was absolutely amazing. The bands were amazing and the people running everything were amazing. I’ve been to quite a few shows but this one really takes the cake and sets the bar higher than I could’ve ever expected. The show was perfect to my eyes and ears. Everything ran smoothly to my perspective and the employees running the merch booth and bar were really nice and very friendly. It was the perfect experience for any show I could have seen and I wish to be able to experience that show again.
My friends and I had an awesome head-banging time seeing Dope, Sevendust, & Static-X
We spend our Valentine’s Day at a StaticX concert. They were amazing, I love the energy and atmosphere , it was a great concert! Would definitely watch them again!!
Great show really enjoyed the venue and the show great experience
From the first band to finally Static X we were blown away by some awesome heavy metal. SevenDust absolutely slayed their set. LaJohn definitely loves and appreciates the fans. Morgan kills that drum set like no other in the biz. Dope was great too and really brought it. StaticX delivered and really pays tribute to Wayne Static and his legacy. I’m an old guy now but absolutely love these bsnds and their music.
Since I got cancer I can't do much but pushed myself to take my lady to see Sevendust with Static-X.. Due to my ladies work schedule we arrived in time to catch the Last band which we thought was Sevendust but Static-X was the last band so we did get to see them but it was very disappointing as we're enormous Sevendust fans and have been following them since 1997.. Static-X had a very good visual show and sounded great..
Both Sevendust and StaticX killed it. Awesome show!
Nothing wrong with the venue, and the bands for this show did a phenomenal performance! The problem is the seating for this particular show. Fans of this type of music don't want to be in seats, or at least the orchestra area shouldn't have been seated. I would not attend another show at this venue for certain shows, now knowing this. This was also a complaint by other fans throughout the night, as even the bands had commented on never performing with these types of seating arrangements. The result weren't terrible, BUT fans would have been happier at a different venue, or with different seating arrangements. I predict that fans would choose to see these bands at a different venue next time around.
This was the best show ever. I would definitely go back for another.
I had ADA seating because I brought my metal head mom with me and she is handicapped when seated in those seats we could not see the stage because the people in front of us were standing for the entire concert, and also it was a very hi traffick area as it was the main entry aisle it's not any of the bands fault its just poor seating arrangements by the Tropicana. Besides that the music was phenomenal me and my mom would love to see these bands again.
Sevendust were amazing and the opening bands were very good. The arena was great and the staff were very nice and helpful.
I did not want it to end. I had the best time the entire time. Such a great atmosphere.
I would recommend everyone go to the show. Everyone was fantastic. If I could afford it I would go to every show. Sevendust and Static X got to play plenty of songs and Dope and Lines of Loyalty were great openers
Awesome venue awesome bands Dope Sevendust and static -x, shredded the (no mosh pits allowed) hard rock, I’d go see them again but they should play the Amalie arena (moshing allowed).
Awesome show. Was there to see Sevendust and they were amazing. Hopefully they play somewhere bigger next time
This was one of the better concerts that we have seen where all four bands were absolutely phenomenal 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Excellent show, high energy, all the great songs were played! Highly recommended
Just overall a sick show with 2 good openers and 2 great headliners with a great sound system that night, great effort on Static’s part to up the stage show effects than earlier years. Had a blast and will definitely return when they come though again. 🤙🏻
RIP Wayne and thank you to the band for keeping it alive!
