Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

The Masquerade has an awesome atmosphere and all the bands were amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed the entire night!
The Masquerade venue is a little rough. Kinda small , tight and a bad layout. All the smokers in the quad is bad for a non smoker. The show was awesome! So great to see Static X still going strong. The sound was surprisingly good . All in all not bad especially for the price.
They sounded great! Played a ton of hits and most of the Wisconsin Death Trip album. Wish Wayne was still alive to play, but Zero (fill-in vocalist) did a great job and actually sounded just like Wayne on most of the songs. Great show, had a lot of fun, and would definitely see them again!
Music was great. They preformed all my favorites. The bathrooms were clean. The people were very cool. Merch table wasn’t ridiculously high and the bar wasn’t packed...
Static X is by far the best band I have seen. Wayne paved the way for this style of music with the sound, energy, fire, and showmanship!! Even though this show was a tribute, they still brought all of that! Wayne would be proud! Raven Black killed it. As short as their set was, I’m definitely going to see them again. This show did not disappoint!!!!!
Great line up with a lot of energy. The new singer was spot on and they did a heartfelt tribute to Wayne Static. I highly recommend seeing this tour.
Raven Black started out with the best set ever! Brought out amazing energy! I love them all so much!! Wednesday 13 came on and melted our faces. Dope killed it and kept up the hype. Devildriver was hardcore and awesome. Static-X ended it all with one of the best experiences in a metal show I've ever had.
I was a bit skeptical with how they were going about the new singer being dressed up like Wayne, but it was a GREAT set! Opening bands fit perfectly (Devildriver!) and Static-X brought it. Great time was had by all.
What an amazing experience. Absolutely fantastic all the way. Minus the obvious raping on prices with drinks.
New Singer filled in somewhat the spot Wayne left, big big kudos to him. So hard. The jammened it hard such an awesome show. Tony Campos San Anto, Vato Loco Forever!!!
Everything was great. I haven’t enjoyed a concert this much in a while.
From beginning to end the whole place was rocking!! Great atmosphere! Everyone was amped and ready to kick ass! Missed the 2 opening bands because of only 1 merchandise stand and had to wait an hour to get shirts so that sucked. Dope Devildriver and Static X kicked everyones ass and brought it! I think the venue was to small bit hey it was a kick ass show and no matter where you were you got a great view! New singer for staticX (Dopes lead singer) was on point and made tou feel like Wayne was there with us!
Static-x killed san antonio again thank you again for an amazing show!!! Evil Disco F/E
First I have to give props to the Aztec Staff, they had a line around the corner and down the block but they took a proactive approach checking ID's, communicating , and answering questions which made the line fly by. As for the show I thought this was a fitting Memorial to an awesome Frontman, R.I.P., he was well represented by Zer0. Devil Driver was brutal AF and I expected nothing less. DOPE was a trip down memory lane as well. Overall I had a blast.
The show overall was awesome the bands kicked ass and static x new singer was on point! Only complain I have is the general admission floor was too small and of course the beer was pricy. But overall the place was great the show was great and location was great as well. I would recommend this place for any other shows they have in the future
An amazing show!! Definitely one for the books. Static X put on one hell of a show!!
All the of the bands put on an amazing show!! I love Dez from Devil Driver. It was amazing to see Static-X!!! 🖤🖤
The whole experience was awesome!!all the bands we're cool but static x blew them all away!!! New singer did not dissapoint. All in all it was an experience to remember.
I wasnt disappointed with the performance. Lots of energy and they gave it their all.
